We were immediately impressed when we walked in the door, very lush waiting area, welcoming hostess, and short wait for our reservation. We were seated in a booth for our anniversary dinner, which gave us more privacy but still allowed us to see the crowd. The meal, from appetizers to 30 oz. cowboy steak were perfectly prepared and served attractively. I tried the scallops, appetizer--perfect finish atop a small portion of mashed potatoes. My husband tried the ceviche trio, and he loved each one. We shared a fresh beet salad and ordered popovers, which came with a freshly prepared jam. Both were great. The gigantic cowboy rib eye steak we shared was perfectly seasoned, and flavorful. Of course, we took over half home.

Food, service, creativity and atmosphere easily unto to my standard for LA and OC Beach restaurants. Thinking this was a typical steakhouse, the unexpected surprise is the fact they grow, farm and sustain almost all their food stock...not your typical steakhouse. Will definitely include The Ranch in my rotation of restaurants.

On par with such greats as Napa Rose and Club 33. The food and service were both top drawer. The amazing thing is that we have driven by it a number of times and didn't know it was there. Many thanks to our friends who recently dined there and shared their experience. This hidden gem is a must for every OC foodie!

Most definitely the best prepared food in OC. Dean, our OC Farmers Market baker, supplies the bread. The noise level is a bit high if you are looking for a quiet romantic dinner, but I guess it is better than a quiet empty restaurant no one wants to eat in.

We fully enjoyed our anniversary dinner at the Ranch. Everything was as promised and expected - fresh, vibrant, creative food, cooked to perfection with superb service. Our waiter Aaron is a credit to the Ranch and his service was definitely standout. He was informative and helpful, with a sincere interest in food and making sure we had a great experience. We really loved the broad use of the Ranch's locally farmed produce - really shines in every dish and in the cocktails! Nice wine list -really appreciated that we could get a great 1/2 bottle of Pinot Noir(Rex Hill) as we can't really have a cocktail and a whole bottle of wine and still drive.

  • FABULOUS PRIME RIB
    OpenTable Diner Since 2012
    Dined on 8/8/2014
I had the lobster and my husband had the prime rib. The lobster cost twice as much, but the prime rib was much better. Also it wasn't clear either on the menu or by the waiter that sides came with the entrees, so we ordered two of the side dishes. It turns out the separately ordered side dishes were far superior to the ones that came with the entrees but we had enough food for an army. It was the most expensive dinner we've had anywhere so bring lots of money. It's a very classy restaurant. Leave the kids at home. Get a babysitter for this one.

We asked our 15 year old son where he would like to go to celebrate his birthday. Fortunately for his father and I, he chose THE RANCH. Yes, he went "big" and ordered the giant Cowboy Ribeye, but it's worth every penny. Our waiter Deryck was fantastic and all of the food was delicious!

The restaurant was lovely & the service excellent. However the food was a huge disappointment. We ordered the heirloom tomato salad special for that evening. The large tomato slices were tasteless and the dish was $17. We also ordered the prime rib, not on the menu. The meat looked beautiful, was tender & juicy, and had absolutely no meat flavor. In sum the food was BLAH! We will not return nor recommend.

We arrived early for our 6:30 reservation, but was seated right away. Once seated, we didn't have to wait to long to be greeted by our waitress. Nicole was very helpful with the menu. She told us what was new, and what the specialties were. We chose to share the "Cowboy steak", a 59 oz. bone-in rib eye that came with a side of potato au gratin. We also chose a side of creamed corn and green beans in mushroom sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium, as we liked it). The service was excellent (our glasses were never empty, and we never had to request for refill.) The waiter even helped take our picture. Overall, dining experience was great.

The online reservation part was new to me. I wish we could have inquired about a friend who works there. The service was over the top. The food was excellent, we loved the amazing fresh vegetables. The atmosphere relaxing, and very professional. Kind of a mix between country and Dallas (the TV show). I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We will be back to try other dishes.

We had a wonderful experience at the Ranch last Saturday! We probably eat here every few months and have never had a bad or disappointing meal. The staff are extremely attentive but not hovering and the meal was well paced; we never felt rushed. As always the food presentation was beautiful! My petite filet was cooked exactly the way I like my meat "Pittsburgh Style". Deryck, our waiter, asked if we were celebrating a special event, we mentioned it was our anniversary and when he brought the dessert menu he said we could choose almost anything from the menu to share and it would be compliments of the restaurant. We choose the fruit crostata and were not disappointed. As always, a great meal!

Eating here the other night was very delectable and fun. I got the summer chef's menu and it was fabulous. It started with a perfectly stuffed and fried zucchini blossom and ended with a lovely tres leches cake with peach sabayon and raspberry sorbet. The service by our server, Nancy, was wonderful. She was very informative, attentive, and nice. The water guy... he was very present, filling up our water glasses. Unfortunately, everytime he refilled mine, he kept spilling water onto the table. This was very annoying. We had a 5:30pm reservation but as the meal went on, the restaurant became more lively and spirited with more people dining. Of course I'd come here again. I cannot wait!

The only complaints we had were the "very hot, right out of the oven" popovers were cold and the wine pour was very stingy...don't these places make enough on their mark-ups per bottle? Now they are shorting the customers with smaller pours? My son in law made a comment, he was told it was their customary pour but a staff member came back and topped off his glass to a fair level. The entrees were excellent but the side of mixed grilled vegetables were just chunks of limp eggplant swimming in oil. None of us ate them.

We recently went to The Ranch for my wife's birthday. It was our third time to the restaurant and we had a great time once again. We were right across from the bar and the noise level was minimal. We love this restaurant for both the service and the food. The wait staff is extremely attentive but we never felt rushed. We tend to order a large number of courses to experience as many flavors as possible. This time we opted out of the Cowboy Ribeye to sample other menu selections and we were not disappointed. We really loved the flavors of the Heirloom Tomato Salad and the Steamed and Grilled Artichoke. We have not been disappointed with any of our food choices to date. We look forward to coming back again.

I had high hopes, the ambiance was great, wine list was impressive, organic mixed tomato salad with 8 types of tomatoes from "the Farm" amazing, but the New York strip was just ok, the sauce on the plate was a little on the salty side. Super nice place, but I was expecting a better steak, at least on a par with Ruth's Chris. I'd go back & try something else, maybe a special or the $99 ribeye that they are famous for, but given the write up & my expectation I'm slightly dissapointed that it wasn't one of the great steaks of my life
