A very good prix fixe dinner. Rather small portions, but beautifully plated. Fine pickerel, hanger steak, beet salad, desserts. Very fine dining in Stratford.

After dining in Stratford for many years, on our annual theater journey, we discovered The Prune this year. What have we been missing for the last ten years! The Prune offered one of the finest dining experiences we have ever experienced including often dinning in Toronto, New York and many Euopean cities. We will have no need to search the theater dinning brochure next year as we will dine at The Prune.

Dining at The Prune was a wonderful way to spend an evening in Stratford. The food was exceptional - absolutely delicious, impeccably prepared, beautifully presented and perfect portion sizes. Wait staff were friendly, efficient and unobtrusive and more than willing to go "above and beyond". The whole evening was an absolute pleasure.

After a very nice amuse bouche and some fairly good appetizers it was downhill fast, despite a pleasant bottle of wine. The mid courses were bland, lacking any contrasting favors; the risotto was forgettable and short of the promised veggie components. The main course, served without accompaniment, was also bland, almost tasteless. The items were attractively plated, but lacked substance. It seemed the chef was focused on appearance, not taste. Others seemed to enjoy the dessert, which I did not have. You definitely want to order a veggie dish to go with the main course, and skip the midcourse. Our server was excellent.

Lovely food. Very attentive but not obsequious service as we have found in other higher end Stratford restaurants. Great to have choice of how many courses to have in order to tailor it to the time available if you are going to a show or if you have all evening. Attention to detail was there from the start - with drinks, amuse-bouches and bread.

My sister and I ate at the Prune on Thursday before the play . We were greeted right at the front door by two friendl young women and greeted by any staff we passed on the way to our table. That made us feel welcome. We were shown to a table and then decided to move to the window and it was not a problem. The server was very knowledgeable and helpful in choosing our meal and we were given time to make the right choice. The meal was not rushed but we were guided along so that we would not be late for then play. We asked about two young men sitting near us and were told that they were trainees who were being given a chance to have a meal and discover what is was like to be a client. We were delighted with the overall experience

An excellent dinner; always a bit anxious-making to dine pre-theatre, but no worries here - we felt neither rushed nor forgotten. Staff were friendly & gracious, service was smooth & attentive without being fussy. At first, we were seated in the front room beside a large and enthusiastic group. The staff noticed & whisked us away to a lovely table in the back room, We opted for three courses - everything delicious (chicken liver mousse, black cod, hangar steak, peach tarte, chocolate ganache) & portion sizes perfect. Small wine list but varied - staff very knowledgeable & helpful. With complimentary sparkling water and ameuse bouche, our final bill reflected good value. Then a stellar production of King Lear. A truly wonderful evening!

The cod was to die for, the watermelon with Basil ice cream was also outstanding. We had a very lONG wait for requested bread, promised a muse which did not appear. 30 minute wait for dessert. Would go again and look for a different waiter , although I think the culprit was actually the manager trying to do too many things at once!

This was our first time dining at The Prune. It was a fantastic experience in every way. the Host and waitstaff were all friendly and obliging (and we loved seeing all the young people working there!). The food was just fabulous. Embracing local/regional sources for both the food and the drink is something we believe in. We thought that the pricing was very reasonable and like the concept of flexibility in choosing courses. Our dinner was part of a day at Stratford, and followed attendance of one of the great plays. However, we now look forward to heading to Stratford just for a fine dinner out even after the theatre season ends.

The ambience and the service were excellent. The waitresses were very attentive. Given the price of our meal which came to 175$ for 2 people and only one glass of wine we thought the food would have been spectacular. The beet salad was very small which for a gourmet restaurant you might expect but such a salad should be amazing. It was only ok. My wife had risotto as an appetizer and this was undercooked. The tuna main course not quite cooked properly. Again if we had had this meal at a regular restaurant and the price was about $75 we would have rated it differently but we put it at a higher standard given the reputation and the cost.

We certainly enjoyed the food, hanger steak for my husband and black cod for myself. The mashed potatoes were delicious. However, the service was way too slow and I am sure we had to wait one hour between our first and our second course. The head waiter was very apologetic when we made some comments and offered us desserts. Although we didn't accept his offer, we appreciated the gesture. We were not charged for our pre-dinner drinks instead. Shall we be back? Certainly! The menu is short, but there is something for every tasteI

we enjoyed everything about The Prune. The food was creative without being silly; for example, brown butter ice cream was delicious. The signature chicken liver mousse with prunes was also delicious, as was the creamy polenta with herbed goat cheese. Staff is terrific without being annoying. if we lived near Stratford, we'd be there often.

One of the most amazing meals ever. From the chicken liver mousse served on a wooden tree trunk and garnished with a glowing cinnamon stick, to the perfectly cooked and sliced hanger steak to the home made cherry pie, everything was a surprise and a delight. Complimentary sparkling water made on site, knowledgeable and well-trained servers made this an evening to remember. The prix fixe menu of two, three or four courses was reasonable for a gourmet dining experience. The venue is a converted Victorian home nicely renovated with just the right touches of history and modern ambience. Will definitely return.

The food was superb and the presentation was excellent, but to top everything off was our server Stephanie. It is extremely unusual to have a server bring a special delight to your dinning experience, but my party of four all agree that she delivered in her own way a superb experience . In fact service and food was so good we decide to comeback the next night again for dinner. I recommend when making reservation to ask for Stephanie and you will see for yourself what we all enjoy in dinning experience. We have dine for six nights in Stratford and would recommend the Prune as our top choice.

I returned to The Prune after a year, and it was every bit as fabulous as before. We each had their four-course dinner: I had smoked salmon with deviled quail eggs, risotto with fresh peas, hanger steak with wild mushrooms, and chocolate ganache with brown butter ice cream for dessert; my partner had chicken liver mousse with Armangac prunes, polenta with mascarpaone, roasted chicken with wild mushrooms, and finished with lavender panna cotta. Everything was outstanding, and largish portions. We started with a glass of cava with the amuse (lentils with beet, topped with goat cheese), then our server paired wines individually for each of our three main courses. The back garden room is lovely, and service was excellent.

We visited with elderly relatives before going to see a show at 8pm and even though we arrived at 5.30 we were rushed at the end of the meal because the service was so slow. The food was excellent although a little skimpy on the bread and cream for coffee (had to ask for more of both).

Dining room is comfortably but elegantly modern, in soft muted colours. Service is attentive but not overbearing - a perfect blend. But the highlight is the food. An excellent beet salad, a tasty risotto and a tiny complimentary amuse-bouche began the meal. However it was the main dish which set this restaurant apart. Salmon poached perfectly in a light fennel broth so that the bottom was lightly cooked and the top was almost raw. Beside it were ribbons of zucchini resting on a gently sweet tomato marmalade - would love that recipe. My friend and I ordered the three course option for $59 and had a couple of glasses of wine. With tax and tip, my half of the bill was $93, incredibly reasonable for the quality of the food.

After a superb lunch at Mercer Hall and an outstanding performance of Crazy for You, our expectations were riding pretty high. The Prune lived up to that and more. The quiet-old-neighbourhood like exterior belies a surprisingly contemporary interior. The atmosphere is a nice balance of comfortably formal ambiance and relaxed unpretentious yet professional personal attention. The service was enhanced by the exceptional knowledge of the menu items and wine list suggestions offered by our server. From the absolutely delicious buns put down at the outset, our meals were exquisite. Big portion lovers might balk, but we liked that we could have four reasonably sized high quality courses and still not feel uncomfortable. FABULOUS.

The Prune (formerly The Old Prune) features an eclectic prix fixe menu with a choice of a 2-course, 3-course, or 4-course selections. The highlights of our meal were the risotto and the black cod. Both were served at the exactly perfect state of done-ness, were beautifully presented, and heavenly tasting. The service was impeccable, but not stuffy. It's been many years since we went to the Old Prune, but we will visit the Prune more often. It's worth the 3-hour drive from Detroit even if we weren't seeing a play. And like most Stratford restaurants, they fully understand the need to get you served on time so you can get to the theater without a problem.

This restaurant is fine dining but not pretentious. My husband had the oysters rockefeller and thought they were the best he's ever had. I had an extremely flavorful beet salad with candied walnuts. My issue was with the salmon that was very under-cooked, my portion was really really rare looked like sashimi on the top 3/4's. Slightly pink on top would have been fine, they did take it back but it came back overcooked, however coupled with shredded zucchini and tomato marmalade the flavors were very tasty. The desserts were fantastic, blueberry panna cotta that was very light. I would highly recommend, the service was fantastic!

Simply wonderful. The prix fixe menu offers only good choices, and presentation receives careful attention. I ate a beautiful salad of varicolored beets, perfectly cooked fish, and a light (but not innocent!) confection of blueberries, panna cotta and meringue. Servers were both friendly and efficient, conveying a care for the food they served and the enjoyment of diners. I called to ask about adding friends to my OpenTable reservation; despite their limited tables and a pre-theatre rush, they were eager to accommodate us. This restaurant has excellent word-of-mouth in its new incarnation. It deserves its reputation!
