Diner Reviews
  • "Went here for dinner on a Thursday night. My date and I enjoyed our time. We had the imperial crab appetizer, 18oz ribeye, 12oz prime rib, sautéed spinach and sautéed mushrooms. The food would be a 4.2/5. Service would be similar. They have a strict dress code for men, jackets are required after 5 pm. They also provide loaners if you do not have one. The establishment is very romantic and classy - with a live pianist. Great steak place - highly recommended."

  • "The food was good. The service was okay. People very pleasant and respectful. Disappeared for extended periods a couple times. Having a jacket policy is fine, but not allowing someone to take it off during dinner 'because the owner doesn't like it' is ridiculous. Getting a little dated. Very mature crowd."

  • "Food is good. Service is excellent. Very pricey. The food doesn't even wow you. Need to update the ambiance. I know it's trying to keep up with the DC style but the place badly needs updating."

  • "Simply wonderful. Amazing food and the service was top. One gentleman who wasn't our waiter even sang happy birthday in Italian in a lovely baritone - we loved it. They were attentive and funny and made the entire experience the perfect birthday."

  • "This was one of the best dinners I have had in DC in 23 years. How nice to finally eat in a upscale restaurant where men and women dressed appropriately, electronic equipment put away; no one was talking on cell phones; fantastic service that accommodated two physical problems; delicious food and a good pour on wine. Can't wait to return!"

  • "I had very high hopes for this restaurant but was disappointed. This a place for old school folks and the food reflects as much."

  • "The bartenders and waiters are extremely attentive. The food was outstanding. A piano player added to a really memorable dining experience."

  • "A great way to celebrate our 40th anniversary with our 7 yr old granddaughter. The food and service were excellent and our server took special care of our picky eater with a grilled cheese sandwich, french fries, and a couple of magic tricks!! The Prime Rib is a gem for any special occasion or just a night out!!"

  • "The Prime Rib had the best service we have ever experienced and the best steakbwe have ever eaten in our life! It was the perfect date night/pre-theater dinner. While it was expensive it was worth it!"

  • "My wife and I have dined at Prime Rib 15-20 times over the years, which speaks for the establishment. We often take friends there, as we did last week, and our friends have always been satisfied. I can recommend Prime Rib without reservation."

  • "Waiters are world class. Food is divine. Sitting by the piano was memorable, as was when Happy Birthday in Italian was sung. We felt cared for here. Wine was 40% off as well. Always a special time at Prime Rib."

  • "We've been going to The Prime Rib for years. Love the private club atmosphere, the service and the quality of the food. We have never been disappointed."

  • "I was visiting from out of town and found The Prime Rib listed as one of the top steak restaurants in DC. After 5 it's coats for the men, so that should tell you something about the atmosphere. It's dark woods, and leather chairs, white table cloths. There was a piano playing that gave it a nice feeling without being too loud. The Prime Rib was good, but I think I expected more from a place with the name prime rib. Their famous potato skins had the consistency of a potato chip, but I thought thy lacked some flavor. The dill sour cream was a nice addition, but I thought they needed some more cheese, or salt. Overall it was a good experience, the staff was friendly and I enjoyed my dinner."

  • "We hadn't been to the Prime Rib in some time, but it was a special occassion and we booked a table. It was superb as we remember it. There isn't a more elegant place in DC. They have relaxed their dress code and while they require men to wear jackets, ties are optional. I look forward to returning soon."

  • "Service and food were beyond wonderful. Lamp chops and crabcakes were cooked perfectly. As out of town guests we now have our favorite place to eat in DC. Jackets required make it an elegant and pleasant dining experience. It is an older crowd but our 16 year old did not mind at all and loved it. Our server was what a great server should be. He was wonderful in his knowledge of the menu, wine list and pairings. Must try if visiting the area."

  • "We live in Atlanta and wanted a special place to celebrate our 26th Wedding anniversary while visiting Washington DC. A friend recommended The Prime Rib as a romantic place with great food and excellent service. Everything was excellent. I had roses delivered to the restaurant for my wife, and they were elegantly displayed at our table when we arrived. They provided us with Champaign at no cost, and everything was outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "My husband and I ate here on our honeymoon on the recommendation of many friends. This was one of the most amazing restaurants we've been too. The food was outstanding, the staff was friendly and welcoming and the ambience was phenomenal. Do yourself a favor and book your reservation now. You won't be disappointed."

  • "Took my guy out for a late Father's Day celebration at Prime Rib and the service and ambiance did not disappoint. His strip came out over cooked but the team re-fired a new one and it came back perfect. The only downside was that I ended up eating my meal while waiting for his new steak and he ate while I looked on. They did offer a complimentary dessert which did not disappoint, the cheesecake was amazing. I would definitely return for a special occasion but it's a little to pricey for a weekly meal on my budget. The piano playing and the host who sang throughout the night was the cherry on top of a wonderful evening."

  • "The Prime Rib was an amazing restaurant experience. The ambience was everything that was promised, it lived up to the hype with the plush black leather chairs, intimate dinning area, live piano & up-right bass; it was great. The service was outstanding and even included a serenade from the Maitre d to my date for her birthday in perfect Italian Opera. My date had the full cut prime rib and it was a very large portion and tasted amazing (I got to enjoy a bit too, plus leftovers the next day for lunch). I had the filet mignon, it was a nice piece of meat prepared to perfect temperature, but lacked any flavor - I will not get that again, but will definitely get the Prime Rib next time. A great place for a special dinner!"

  • "Excellent food, service and the wine was great. We had steak, seafood and the usual accompaniments. To top it off the 40% off wine deal made for a great deal to match the food. Also, its always nice to have a conversation you can have that is both private and where you dont need to raise your voice."

  • "We had an excellent meal. Our waiter was attentive but not bothersome. The prime rib, their specialty was the best my wife has ever had. The cost is on the high end but was worth the expense."

  • "PR in DC was a fantastic dining experience. Party of 3 enjoyed outstanding service, ambience, and food. Wait staff and Maître’ D were professional, courteous, and extremely efficient and effective. Music was at perfect volume and added class to the experience. Cocktails, appetizers, entrees, desert, coffee, were all delicious. Found everyone there to be very unpretentious.....made my wife, so, and I very comfortable and special (Baltimore PR is more pretentious and less inviting, in our opinion). It really was a treat! Great and very memorable time had by all in our party. 40% wine savings special in June was a treat, too and complimentary valet parking was also a nice touch. GREAT experience."

  • "We had everything from school filet mignon to lobster. The entrees we great, the sides were great, the wine was great, the service was great and if we had had room, I'm sure the deserts would have been great too! Bring your card that has no spending limits because you'll need it! We spent nearly $500 on the two of us! Enjoy and bon a petite! "

  • "Went to the Prime Rib to mark the 35th anniversary of the first time I took my late Exclusive Other there. Everything -- the Shrimp Cocktail, the Greenberg potato skins, and the Steak au Poivre -- was outstanding, as usual. The staff has grown younger over the years, but is still friendly and attentive. Prices have increased. My solo dinner cost twice as much as the one thirty-five years ago. But one doesn't mind paying for quality."

  • "I was ecstatic to make reservations for my fiance's graduation dinner. The environment at first glance is charming and the interior decor makes you nostalgic. The service when offered, was great. I'm not sure if they were busy (didn't seem this way since the table next to us had the same waiter but more attention) or if we were ignored because we fell way below the average age of the clientele within the restaurant, but it proved quite hard to put our orders in. Lastly, the couple next to us was loud and obnoxious, and their relationship quarrels should be taken elsewhere and not in a public setting. It was quite embarrassing and upsetting. All aside, the food was great. Most definitely delivered and satiated our hungers that night! "

  • "The dining area and ambiance was nice as well as the food; however; our server made us uncomfortable with his facial and service to us. He was an older African American gentleman. We are a young African American couple; his body language as well as his attitude made us feel that he felt we shouldn't be in such an establishment . We felt that we were being stereotyped, which made us disgusted and leave without dessert or trying anything else. I really hope that in the future the attitude and lack of customer service this individual displayed can and will be fixed!! "

  • "When you're in the mood for wonderful steaks, chops, and fish, served in a classic "cafe society" setting, with a piano and bass player who know the Great American Songbook, head to The Prime Rib. And don't forget to dress (jackets for men). "
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "The tables are all placed too close together. You can't help but listen to the conversation of the table next to you. And we felt like we had no privacy to talk. The food was ok. "

  • "The food was really good. The all male mid age men waiters was nice, but a bit odd that there were no women waitresses. Loved the glass piano top and the vase in the center of the dining area. Being from PA, found the prices on the very high end for even a special occasion restaurant."

  • "The Prime Rib was outstanding, as always. We started with lobster bisque, which was very flavorful; then crab three-ways, a splendid special featuring crab imperial, soft-shell crab, and imperial crab; porterhouse Oscar style, starring a succulent filet portion; prime rib; and dessert. Ambience is outstanding, with the gentleman playing the grand piano, and tables themselves are luxurious. Best restaurant in DC, hands down. "

  • "Think Frank Sinatra, or old style mafia hang out ... Big black leather chairs and banquettes, martinis up, and piano ... All the makings of a great steakhouse of a bygone era. Unfortunately, it fell well short, with introductions leading to a list of unavailable cocktails and bourbons. The food was unimaginative and in several cases bland, cold or unseasoned ... A total miss, especially at downtown steakhouse prices."
