The Prime Rib - Baltimore (The Original)great time!Simply delicious and great atmosphere! This is the first time here for 5 of the 7 of us, and we all agree that we will be back!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had crab cakes made withWe had crab cakes made with good quality crab cakes, but the filling was heavy on mayonnaise and the vegetables had too much butter and salt. A healthier cooking style would also make the food taste better. Still the setting is nice and the service is impeccable.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb food and even betterSuperb food and even better service, a classic restaurant that does not bow to fads but produces standards at a level that is always tremendous. A necessary stop for a special occasion or when you want to stop and smell the roses while enjoying a drink or wine and a good meal prepared and served by a staff that cares.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMIs the Prime Rib What it Used to BeSo-so evening at the Prime Rib. Used to be the "go-to" special occasion restauranat in Baltimore. Over the past few years it has slipped as a number of truly fine and creative restaurants in Baltimore have opened. The menu or decor (pictures, leopard carpet) haven't changed in 20 years. Looking for a steak or seafood, plain and simple? This is the place. The lobster bisque - great and the cocktail selection - lovely. My swordfish was good but perhaps a smaller portion, more creatively prepared? My husband loved his rockfish. The restaurant was loud. The crowd older. Subpar table perhaps because there were only two of us? Not regulars? A serving tray stand was behind me and I got bumped by servers and trays. Our server Nathan was excellent.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMonce againBring your wallet, cause it ain't cheap! Everyone was pleased with their food once again. I had the sea bass, was probably the least liked choice of the table, served with a tomato/capers.. which would have been better served over then on the side. 3 people had the Filet Oscar special, which was awesome. Our daughter had the crab cakes, which I really think are some of the best around. My husband had the pork chop, blackened...which was probably the best ever! Oysters rockefellar were as always, great! Creme brulee is some of the best ever.. cheese cake was very good and the bread pudding, WOW! Not an everyday meal and might be one of the most expensive meals you have...but if you can go there... enjoy! Service, is second to none!!!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMToo poor to frequentUnless you have money falling from you pores, I would say one come here once a year for an anniversary or birthday. Awesome prime rib though.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFABULOUSI went to the Prime Rib many times during my 20s but have not been there in 30 years (I'm 57 now). It was my son's 25th birthday. He lives in Canton and I wanted him to experience the Prime Rib. He is a steak lover so we went there for a very special dinner. We both ordered the special Filet Mignon topped with crab with asparagus, fresh horseradish on the side with greens. Not only was it as great as I remember it, they treated us like royalty! He felt so special on his birthday and I was so happy to pass on a great Baltimore tradition of dining at the Prime Rib - dining at it's finest! The best thing was that it was as wonderful as I remember it many years ago.
Thanks for living up to and going beyond my expectations!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe entree is very good and costlyThe food was as good as expected. The prime rib steak is consistenly good, but the price has gone up over the years and most would consider it overpriced. One should check the on line menu price before taking a stroll over to the Horizon house. The service is as good as ever4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMoutstanding in all waysthe prime rib is our favorite (special occasion) restaurant, and never fails in providing us with a wonderful dining experience. we start with their delicious cocktails, and proceed to their entrees. we always order our favorites, filet for him, and lobster tail for me. we would highly recommend this restaurant.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMas usual food and serviceas usual food and service were exceptional one of our favorite places to dine4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA Baltimore Fine Dining ClassicI'm glad to have visited the Prime Rib. I've lived in Baltimore most of my life, and remember many of the top restaurants which are no longer here (Pimlico Hotel, Danny's, The Brass Elephant, The Chesapeake Restaurant, Maison Marconi). It's hard to find a restaurant which truly gives a fine dining experience. I worked in the food service industry for over 20 years, and in my opinion, the food, service, and atmosphere make visiting the Prime Rib a must. I think the cost is very practical for the experience. We will be back!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThere is only one thing toThere is only one thing to say about dining at the Prime Rib. No better what you order, when you leave, you will always know you had a great meal! It never disappoints!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOur server, Marcus, was outstandingOur server, Marcus, was outstanding. They serve delicious food in a beautiful place with great atmosphere. We were delighted with our waiter. Dan provided us with great service and personal attention. John introduced us to a new bottle of wine which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you for making our 20th wedding anniversary so special.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistent high quality inConsistent high quality in all aspects. This remains our finest steakhouse (despite newer competition).4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThere is no place like this. There is no place like this. New York 1940-50's ambiance, beautiful jazz music coupled with the best prime rib, steaks, and fish in Baltimore. Absolute perfection.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOther than the noise and crowdedOther than the noise and crowded tables and a slightly irregular serving schedule due, probably to the sold-out room, our experience was fine. The steaks and crab cakes were first rate, the piano player excellent. Rearranging tables might allow for enough space so that servers can get by.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a wonderful dinner celebratingHad a wonderful dinner celebrating my fiance's 50th birthday. The ambiance and service were outstanding. The food, as always, incredible! Definitely the best steakhouse in Baltimore, and an excellent choice for celebrating a special occasion!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything that can be saidEverything that can be said about The Prime Rib has already been said many times - simply superb!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a classy place. OldAlways a classy place. Old fashioned personal attention and service is hard to find , but always present at this restaurant.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb service from the momentSuperb service from the moment you enter. And, the best prime rib anywhere! Crab cakes are outstanding for those who don't go the beef route. Ambience makes you feel very special and the staff does as well. Such a fabulous watering hole in our city!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe really enjoyed ourselvesWe really enjoyed ourselves and the food was delicious4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always, the best of theAs always, the best of the best. Very expensive but well worth it.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Vibrant and friendly barThe Vibrant and friendly bar looked very inviting. Will try the bar the next time.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMNoise level to be expectedNoise level to be expected when a full house is enjoying themselves. It should not be considered a drawback. Regrettably, your prices do not permit frequent visits, so I make it a special occasion.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnificent service--justMagnificent service--just perfect--there but not intrusive--played with our humor--respectful of a "birthday" guest; food was sensational, including the sides....
Wonderful evening.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMthe server was very attentivethe server was very attentive to our needs. food was wonderful - pecan pie to die for. not very private though. tables too close together.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant does everythingThis restaurant does everything well. There is nothing new here. The place would be a great restaurant in the time of the Mad Men. They don't mess with success. I loved the live piano music.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding. SteakFood was outstanding. Steak perfectly prepared at medium rare. Crab Cake was delicious. My wife absolutely loved the Escargots, prepared the only real way they should be..in the shells with incredible garlic butter and broiled in the oven and served with the really good house bread for dipping.
Food is great. Service is equally great. Priced high for any category in the Baltimore area. Would be a more frequent visitor but spending over $200 for two for dinner makes weekly or bi-weekly visits impractical.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is very pricey butThe food is very pricey but the food is delightful. A great place to dine if you can afford it.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSUPERB dining for a special night!GREAT steakhouse! Had reservations but ended up sitting at the bar to be closer to the fantastic Jazz trio! The bartender Dan was very attentive. The host Matt was very cordial and kept checking on us. I was pleasantly surprised that they even carry Boodles Gin....my FAVORITE! VERY few places carry that. Dinner consisted of my other half and I ordering the "normal" size Prime Rib. We got the spinach, mashed potatoes and fried potatoes to share. The normal size rib was HUGE and cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is wonderful for a romantic, special occasion out. Not inexpensive...but what GREAT steakhouse is providing such an atmosphere and with live music? Cannot say enough good things about it. Go and treat yourself!!!4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMClassic as ever, if a littleClassic as ever, if a little too quiet on a Thursday evening, with most patrons 20 years older than us. Still a family favorite for special occasions. The massive prime rib with lots of fresh-grated horseradish is a joy for hungry teenage boys, while the simple crab imperial is still my own favorite dish. Crazy expensive but quality remains high and service impeccable. Are we bored of the Prime Rib? No. But I admit my oldest son said, maybe next time let's try Woodberry Kitchen ... Last note: what a treat to have a lovely French chablis available by the glass - can't find that anywhere anymore it seems. Thanks, Prime Rib.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome Anniversary CelebrationWe were celebrating an anniversary of sorts, and chose the Prime Rib in part because we had a gift card to use. But we won't wait for another gift card to go back. Food was amazing, ALL wait staff (from the main waiter to the water guy, to the bus staff and those scraping crumbs from our table) were excellent! Already have my menu selections made for our next visit!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMRomantic Date nightLooking for a nice place to have a Romantic evening? The Prime Rib has wonderful service, great food and a soothing ambiance. We will definitely make this a spot future date nights.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was fantastic as usual.Food was fantastic as usual. The service was friendly, efficient, and knowledgable. The combo was superb, and we stayed way too late.A great experience at one of Baltimore's best places to dine.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the Best Steak in BaltimoreAs always, one of the best steaks anywhere in the world! I always get the full cut of prime rib and my girlfriend got the split cut. Strangely, they lowered the price of the prime rib from $57 to $49. I don't know why and it certainly wasn't to sacrifice quality...
The only downside is the coma of bliss you'll sink into afterwards!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMStill the Best ......In the beginning, there were a handful of great Baltimore Restaurants - Prime Rib, Tio Pepe's, Danny's, The Chesapeake. Today, despite many additions to the Baltimore restaurant scene, there are two that are heads above the rest - The Prime Rib and Tio Pepe's. Still the best and heads above the rest.3/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my husband to The PrimeI took my husband to The Prime Rib as a special treat for his birthday. He craves beef, & this is probably accentuated by the fact that I am a vegetarian. I was not expecting a good meal on this night, but I had chosen this restaurant solely for my meat-eating mate. As expected, my husband's meal was superb, but astonishingly, so was mine! I had ordered several vegetable side dishes, & each one was absolutely delicious (in my experience, a rare occurrence in a meat-centric establishment). In addition, the portions were so generous that we each took a second meal home with us. It was expensive, but well worth the money.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came back to the PrimeWe came back to the Prime Rib to celebrate our 40th anniversary and as always we were not disappointed. The staff is just top notch and do everything they can to make you feel welcome and at home. The food was extraordinary (as usual) with a particular note to the grilled atrtichokes. Just incredible. The room can get a bit noisy as others have noted but we never had a problem talking or hearing each other. Particular kudos go to Bob, our waiter. He made an already special occasion a truly memorable one.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMloved everything about theloved everything about the Prime Rib. Scott, our server, was exceptional.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a classic steakhouseThis is a classic steakhouse that also has excellent seafood options. The prices reflect a special occasion restaurant but the food is well worth it. It was our first time to this Baltimore landmark and we look forward to our next visit. My only complaint is we waited an hour for our table despite reservations, but it was Saturday night.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Prime Rib lives up toThe Prime Rib lives up to its reputation as a special occasion place for a splurge meal. Expect to pay for the attentive service, the thick and generous prime rib and every item (everything is a la carte). Still, it will impress your date or business contact, out-of-town, or even local guest who haven't had the special experience. Best on an expense account, if these still exist.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time here and WOW. ThisFirst time here and WOW. This is what a steakhouse is supposed to be. This place takes you back in time with their business professional dress code, live music and 1940s supper club vibe. And the steaks - WOW! I had the Ribeye (gigantic) and my date had the fillet both were FABULOUS. Very accommodating staff and the wine list is filled with gems, even some with some age on them, with more than reasonable markups. If you have not yet had the experience of this restaurant, get dressed up and get there.....3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed our dinner. WaiterEnjoyed our dinner. Waiter could have been a bit more friendly. Food very good. Side dishes over priced. Nice ambiance3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe beef has no equal. OurThe beef has no equal. Our appetizers were fabulous too. I did think the side of potatoes au gratin wasn't worth the $. Neither the portion size nor the taste were worth the price. My only complaint.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was yumThe food was yum. The steak was perfect as was the prime rib. The waiter was excellent .
The room seemed nosiey and was hard to hear the other person talking. The food and service is how I remembered it to be many years ago. The sides could have been bigger .The dinner plates seemed small for such an expensive ,large serving of meat.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Prime Rib has been oneThe Prime Rib has been one of my favorite restaurants since I was a much younger person. We went there to celebrate our anniversary and everything was perfect! The swordfish is off the menu, but I tried their signature prime rib and was in heaven. Service was perfect. Everything is so consistent over many years (have been married 22 years! and went there when I was a child). Love, love, love it! Thank you for a wonderful, unforgettable evening!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExpensive, but worth it.Expensive, but worth it. Service was great and food was amazing.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Prime Rib is exceptionalThe Prime Rib is exceptional and has been since its inception some years ago. From the moment you enter you are greeted by a professional maitre d' who knows that you are coming, your preference for table location and server. You are seated and then the fun begins. Drinks are superb, whatever your choice, and they arrive quickly. There is a buzz in the restaurant and this makes you happy that you selected the Prime Rib. Service is professional and your choices on the menu arrive as ordered. Brad or John the maitres'd will come by your table to see that you are happy and satisfied. We always are thanks to the finely tuned operation. We alway leave hoping that we will come back soon.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
