Our visit to Halifax ended with a great dinner experience at The Press Gang Not only was the food very good but the service was both efficient and friendly. We would recommend the pork tenderloin and scallops and the Nova Scotia lamb rack. A lucky find and would definitely recommend

My husband and I loved this restaurant. Everything about it was wonderful. Dinner was delicious, atmosphere was warm and welcoming, wait staff was knowledgeable and professional. The trio playing in the bar was an added treat as was the choice from over 120 brands of Scotch! We liked it so much that we are going back again before we leave Halifax for home.

The crusted tenderloin was outstanding. Oysters were also excellent. The lobster was delicately spiced with fenil. Tomatoes with goat cheese as a starter was OK but ordinary. Good wine list but expensive. Keep some place for desserts! We tried 3 other restaurants during our vacation (da Maurizio, Bicycle Thief and Chives) and we have to give it first price.

The Press Gang does not stand up to its competition in Halifax. Although it presents itself as being an Oyster Bar, it fell far short. The oysters were the most expensive we had in Halifax yet the smallest and our two dozen samplerplate contained one oyster which was demonstrably "off". The service was charming but too slow. The main courses were quite good, certainly not exceptional. The room we were in was uncomfortably warm.

Not a large restaurant but large on making your dinning experience very enjoyable. I made a reservation for our 40th anniversary. We were seated at a secluded table, #30. It is in a small alcove. Some might find it too secluded but for us it was perfect. The staff took great care of us. We felt special, what more can you ask? I ordered flowers to be delivered to the restaurant. They were waiting at the table. We will be going back.

Everything was wonderful until our entrées were served. My husband's butter poached lobster was perfect. My rare ordered striploin...was cooked to a medium temperature. Our waiter offered to replace it. I kindly declined because my husband's dinner would've been cold waiting for my entrée, or I would be eating alone. Please font ask me how I want my steak cooked, then over cool it. Disappointed.

Food was very good. So was the service. However it is very loud. The decor is great, stone pillars, feels like a cave or wine cellar from 1800's, but acoustics not good. Good for girls night or boys night, but not a romantic dining place. Just too darn loud

I always look forward to my trips to Halifax so that I can include a visit to the Press Gang, one of my all-time favourite restaurants, but this time I left disappointed. Food is always exceptional, and the atmosphere is wonderful; this time was no exception - oysters to start, then the pork and scallop main; I would have also liked to order desert, a glass of ice wine, and a cappuccino, but my server was so inattentive that after 30 minutes of waiting with an empty plate, empty wine glass, and empty water glass, I was so disappointed and sad, that I just asked for my bill. I left not feeling full or happy; it’s a shame when service ruins what would have otherwise been a fantastic experience.

My wife and I were in Halifax for the weekend and wanted a romantic date night restaurant. A friend strongly recommended The Press Gang, and it did not disappoint. We ordered The Drill (only request was to hold any oysters that may be included). Each of the 13 items that we were then fed was perfectly prepared and presented. Our servers were very attentive. This meal was a treat and it delivered on all accounts.

We dined at the bar on August 8th and experienced one of the best cocktail and worst kitchen performances of the year. Our bartender was friendly, engaging, skilled and a great salesman. Knowing our expectations, he steered us away from dishes that would truly disappoint, but what we did land eating was still bad. Dry, tasteless Duck Confit, salty Beef entrees and boring Desserts. The worst part of our experience was that the kitchen was completely buried. Everyone's food took an embarrassingly long time to be served. Management bought a lot of drinks, while running around the dining room apologizing versus going into the kitchen and help get the food out. The live music was OUTSTANDING ! If you go, sit at the bar and eat oysters.

Really nice setting, great service and the food was outstanding... Had the deconstructed caesar salad to start which was decent - heavy garlic in the dressing which I did enjoy. For a main I had the special - scallops on a bed of curried jasmine rice - outstanding. The scallops were seared to perfection. It was dressed with some microgreens which it could have done without but outstanding nonetheless.

Vacationing in Nova Scotia, we were delighted to have The Press Gang recommended to us by our son. Our table was quiet and private, but we still met some engaging people nearby and that added to our experience. The Tuscan Mussel appetizer was beyond delicious, and out two entrees, Medallions of Pork Tenderloin with Pan Seared Scallops, and Fresh Nova Scotia Halibut, were beautiful in presentation and in taste and quality. We also benefited from tastings of a small batch Irish whiskey and a limited Canadian whiskey. That was an added and very welcome bonus, presented by a gentleman who was charming and engaging.

Press Gang is in one of the oldest buildings in Halifax, very cool decor and ambiance. But what a disappointment the food was! My husnband liked his oysters on the half shell, but that was about it. I had a forgettable salad, then we struggled to find anything appealing in the ordinary looking entrees. The cooking was mediocre. The wine choices by the glass were way overpriced (and I know this because the selections were all too familiar and competely unimaginative). We spent near $200 for a filling but unsatisfyingmeal. We think the place is coasting on it's location and long established name recognition. Better places to eat in Halifax!

We booked this restaurant after reading great reviews. Unfortunately, the food was not up to our standards.Crab cakes were terrible (tasted like from a frozen food box) Oysters were okay, needed spicier cocktail sauce or horse radish. Scallops were good. Lamb was alright, a bit overcooked. Salmon and Halibut were pretty good but the side dishes were horrible. Desserts were unimaginative and not very tasty. Overall, the price was outrageously high. I wouldn't go back. However, I have to say we are accustomed to cooking our own delicious meals so someone else might find the food better than we did. In the end, we were very disappointed because we don't eat out often and when we do, we try to pick a restaurant that has superior reviews. :-(
