A word from The Precinct
For Jeff Ruby, this is the steakhouse that started it all. In 1981, The Precinct was born in the former Cincinnati Police Patrol House Number 6. This turn-of-the-century, Romanesque-style structure would hold what is now the longest, continuously running white tablecloth restaurant in the city.
Recently named one of America's Top 10 Steakhouses by USA Today and Gayot.com, The Precinct is frequently recognized as having Cincinnati’s best steaks, seafood and service. This consistent high level of quality and overall guest experience over 3 decades has endeared Precinct to celebrities, businesspeople, families and loyal diners alike.

we had a great visit at the precinct. we had some family issues going on and we brought our 4 month old son to the restaurant. the staff couldnt have been more accomodating, especially our server Mike who was so patient when one of the members in our party was over an hour late and we waited for him to arrive to order. i really appreciated everyone's positive vibe and customer first attitude. we will definitely be back.

I took my wife to The Precinct for her birthday...we had never eaten there but always wanted to. During the reservation process I asked for "something cozy" and they gave us a delightful table partitioned off from the main room where there were only four small tables together - perfect! Our waitress, Cherran, was very attentive and helpful without being intrusive. We started with a bottle of the Benziger Merlot which is always a winner - we toured the Benziger winery in Sonoma a few ago and highly recommend it. Both of us had the Freddie salad, a great way to start off - simple yet very satisfying. My wife got the Collinsworth and I got the Whitworth, both cooked perfectly. I found the whole experience to be very enjoyable and completely satisfying.

From the moment you walk in you know this is a special place. Front staff are smart, quick, professional. Atmosphere and decor are what they are, historic, old, full of memories. Wait staff are impressive. IMO this is where this place shines. The staff are all A Plus. The know the menu, are flawless in thier operation, they know when to be seen and when to invisible. The food is also excellent. Its a meat and potatoes place but by God the meat is fantastic. Wide range of choices and all perfect. Moving onto price....its not cheap but then again it should not be. There were three of us Friday night, drinks, steaks, salads, one dessert with tip $230. For top food and service in a classic resturant thsi is excellent value and more than worth it. The only negative, and its not alone in this is seating arrangements. You do sit close to others and if they are a little loud then you are done! Drop the hostess a nice wink and a $20 to get a more secluded table or go early!!!

Our party of four relished the excellent food, wine, setting - and each other's company as we laughed and shared stories. The waitress regularly interrupted to fuss over items on the table, oblivious to how we cared more about letting someone finish their sentence than whether or not she removed some item like a half full sauce container (which we'd already asked to keep on the table). This inappropriate over-servicing couldn't ruin our family celebration and we left what we felt was an appropriate $35 tip (albeit 10%). She returned with our credit card slip, claimed she couldn't read the writing (it was clear) and continued to embarrass us publicly into leaving another $20. We believe a tip is appreciation for good service NOT an assumed set percentage. We are amazed at the audacity of this waitress - to spoil a great experience only to squeeze $20 out of a group who would otherwise return again if we could have left with a better feeling.

We had never been to the Precinct before last Wednesday. I had been a gift card from co-workers for $170 as a retirement gift and came home with $154. That does not even include the $10 for valet parking and $35 tip. So ... $215 for an average meal. Obscene. We each had one glass of wine, I had one coffee, we shared one side, had no appetizers and no desserts. Our "cheapest steaks on the menu" were good, but for nearly $50, frankly disappointing. If someone had done a blind taste test with your steaks and $15/pound filets from the Fresh Thyme market prepared on my Weber, I really don't know if I could say yours was significantly better. We felt crowded and our conversation was probably easily heard by the couples sitting 2 feet to either side of us. We came away feeling unfulfilled and embarrassed that we had spent my colleagues' money so frivolously. The dinner experience was so ridiculously expensive, we will not come back and we certainly cannot recommend it to any of our middle class friends. Perhaps all the rich and famous in the lobby pictures enjoy spending $1,000 for dinner for four at The Precinct but I can only assume the rest of the 99%-ers don't

It has been a while since we dined at the Precient so we decided on the spur of the moment to go out and it was a great decision. Since my wife's birthday was the following week and we had plans on her birthday this was a great time to go. The wait staff was excellent and the meal was fantastic. The gentleman in charge of the wait staff even sang "Happy Birthday" to my wife. All in all a fantastic evening and could not have gone better.

I've been to different Ruby's restaurants many times and I've never been disappointed. This visit, while still very good, was less than perfect. I ordered the Chris Mack (ribeye), and when our steaks came I told my wife I thought it looked like a strip instead. She suggested it was a different cut of ribeye than I was accustomed to, and I proceeded to eat. The steak was delicious, but I couldn't finish it (a frequent occurrence at Ruby's restaurants!). Our server boxed it up and we brought it home. When I put it in the fridge I noticed that it was labeled as a Whitworth (strip). I was torn between ordering the Mack and the Whitworth to begin with, and I was not disappointed with my meal, just the error. I should have spoken up.

I visited the Precinct for the second time this past weekend with my partner to celebrate our anniversary. Despite the fact that we are a young couple, we were treated as any other pair out to dinner for a special occasion might be. Our waiter was prompt and friendly, not too chatty and not cold at all, and was perfectly familiar with the restaurant's menu. He couldn't have been more perfect. The food, as usual, was absolutely superb and arrived hot and plated beautifully.

If you have a special occasion to celebrate, or want a romantic, quiet experience, the Precinct is for you. Although quite pricey, it is a can't miss experience. My wife & I celebrated our 5th anniversary there on a Friday night, and it was simply outstanding. We each had the surf & turf--a 9 oz. filet mignon and lobster tail--and it was to die for! The Freddie salad (BLT salad) is incomparable, bread & spread while your entre is prepared, the entre itself, dessert...just phenomenal start to finish. Great service, incomparable food, quiet, romantic atmosphere--it simply doesn't get any finer than The Precinct.

The service, ambiance and food were excellent. The steak was perfect and one of the best steaks I have ever had. The Crab cake there is the best I have ever had as well. The Crab meat was amazing! The salad was good and the mash potatoes were very good as well. I liked that the Steak entrée came with your choice of two sides. If I had only one complaint, it would be that of the chair that I sat in. It was a bit low to the ground in proportion to the table and it wasn't that comfortable. I sank into the chair. It might have been broken. But other than that, it was a great experience and I highly recommend The Precinct to friends and family.
