  • "Perfect for pre-Old Globe dining. Short walk to the theatre. Staff cognizant of showtime and work to make your dinner pleasant and get you out on time. Convenient valet parking (a bit pricey, but not a killer). Food not haute cuisine but good. Wine list and pretty good."

  • "Dining at Prado was a delight! We are from NC and it had been several years since last there. Meal was exceptional as it was previously. Great drinks, food, service ( great waiter), and ambiance. Could not ask for more!!"

  • "Ate here before attending the Old Globe theatre.... It was a summer madhouse, so thank goodness we had reservations for outside. The prix fixe dinner for 2 was delicious and excellent value. Service was great, especially considering the crowd. Will definitely return after the tourists have gone home."

  • "Lunch was great being able to request to sit at a table looking down at the ceremony site where I will be married later this year! Our lunch was fantastic and the service by Claudia was even better!"

  • "Went here for a special dinner with my husband while traveling. Sat outside in a semi-secluded area with a view of the foray below. Enjoyed an Irish Mule cocktail before dinner with some amazing pot sticker appetizers. I had the short ribs which were outstanding."

  • "We were late because of holiday freeway traffic. We called to let them know and they were accommodating. Food and service were great. Recommend the Prado for lunch and before the shows at Balboa Park."

  • "Nice place with great patio, foods good but small portions and over priced. This was out fourth time there in as many years, firsts three were for lunch last was dinner. Dinner menu is limited but food was very good. Will probably go back for lunch sometime but with so many great restaurants in Hillcrest and surrounding aria it's not likely we'll go back for dinner anytime soon."

  • "Nestled in the middle of beautiful Balboa park, this Cohen family resturant offers a convenient but overpriced food option to tourist. The service is respectable but the food is not. OK at half the price. The weary traveler will pay dearly to rest their feet. Consider some street food near by and a place on the lawn."

  • "I brought my niece and her children here this time. The kids menu is great as is the regular menu. The sandwiches are huge. The food is always great."

  • "We love dining under the stars amongst the lovely trees, flowers and surroundings of the Prado. The Calamari is the best! We love the Short Ribs and Ahi Tuna when available. We are able to actually have adult conversations and can hear each other!"

  • "Nice to eat away from the Gaslamp area, particularly if are spending the day at the zoo or the theatre. Food is not exceptional, but good and there are some intetesting options that fuse a Mediterranean flair to the Anerican palette. Overall, a very good choice."

  • "The Prado is always a nice experience before or after the theater. Love the ambience and the food is consistently good. This is especially important when you consider the number of times I have dined there while visiting Balboa Park."

  • "It was my husbands birthday. My son, his girlfriend and my husband and I decided to spend it at The Prado in Balbia Park. It was pricey but, with the ambiance if the patio and being in the park, it was worth it. The service was perfect; the busser cleaned the table after our appetizer and after our dinner, so we could enjoy the next part of our meal. Our server was very attentive and gave great recommendations for those at our table who preferred vegetarian dining. All in all, it turned out to be a great birthday for my husband!"

  • "Beautiful lush location, top notch food and service. Especially loved the arugula and fruit pressed salad. A fine dining experience."

  • "Fab experience if you are able to find a parking space. I remember once there were no parking spaces and we had valet as our backup. This time we spent 45 minutes finding a space for lunch and we covered the entire part as well as outside. Finally found one in one the park's lots. People just drive around and with all the visitors not realizing one way arrows, tight spaces...... Next time if it is a dinner event I will check to see if they have valet."

  • "Great food and service however if you are looking to be out past ten pm then this is not the place for you! Great place to visit if you are in the park or to go for an early dinner but doors close too early on weekend!"

  • "The patio ambiance was delightful - no so much the food. On plus side, they have heat lamps for comfort. On down side, food was incredibly pedestrian. The mussels in garlic butter broth were tasty, but the mussels were small. Did they really need to charge $1.50 for two extra slices of garlic bread when you're spending $100+ per couple? The Caesar salad was adequate if unspectacular. The entrees were overly pricey for what you get. I had the salmon with beef short rib. The salmon couldn't have been more than 3 oz. - about 3-4 bites. It came dressed with lots of potatoes to seem more substantial, disappointing given $30 price. Her petit filet w/ shrimp was pedestrian for $33. Service was professional but not particularly inviting."

  • "From the moment we walked in, the view was amazing. Our waiter was so accommodating and nice with our dietary restrictions (diabetic and lactose intolerance). They provide hummus as a starter and it was a bit cold but still good (slight spice). I was excited for our entrees and was very underwhelmed. My BF's shrimp Thai noodles were swimming in peanut sauce and my dish was really dry. For the price, not worth it. But ambiance = amazing."

  • "Dining at El Prado is always a delightful experience. Whether you go for appetizers and drinks, a light meal, or a special menu, you won't be disappointed. The service, food, and environment are top notch. If you're looking for a "classy" way to end your trip to Balboa Park, include dinner at El Prado."

  • "As always had a wonderful dinner at Prado before seeing a show at the Old Globe. The food is always great, service wonderful- friendly, prompt, perfect. Prado really knows what they're doing, they do everything excellently."

  • "My friends didnt forget to celebrate my birthday--never mind that it was nine months ago! Enjoying them and the Prado's beautiful & delish fare (Dominic, our cute waiter deserves a mention) were enjoyed to the max. My drink, Dark n Stormy (Myers Rum, ginger beer & lime) sang a serious bass note: not sweet, & exactly what I'd wanted. We split our three orders: grilled portobello salad, sea cake, and my fave, the green chili relleno. Ok, so dinner consisted of two starters and a salad, but the gratis seeded flatbread w/hummus, plus the restaurant's bday gift of a lovely candle-topped flan (also shared), was substantial enough for us three who relished our spirits (inner & ordered) "Eat food, mostly plants, not too much" Yo, M. Pollan!"

  • "We love going to The Prado. The food is fantastic - and this time in particular, the portions were huge! Great service. One of the guests in another party was REALLY loud and that threw off the ambience! We go to The Prado for a lot of special occasions - including our rehearsal dinner! Definitely recommend it!"

  • "Great food. Great atmosphere. They have a new pre-fixe menu for theater patrons. Very nice! I had the salmon. As usual, it was delicious."

  • "I have never had a bad meal or bad service whether it be in the bar, in the dining room or out on the patio. It is very convenient pre or post Old Globe. Highly recommend"

  • "Well, this restaurant is off our list of favorite spots. The service was poor and the quality of food has gone done. Our waiter was rude and mostly out of sight. It's too bad such a great location doesn't offer food or service to match. It took almost an hour to receive our food. It was cold. It is $10.00 to park for a lousy dining experience! There are too many great restaurants in the San Diego area that offer much more."

  • "Dinner was very good. Please keep it up. It's now great for before the Old Globe."

  • "The food is a 7/10. The location is great. Prices are too expensive. Not worth it except for happy hour or appetizers."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "We love the location of the Prado, and group luncheons there are very good, with interesting but not startling food. And lunch in the restaurant is pretty and has some good items. But the dinner menu is a bit fussy for our taste--extra ingredients, lots of chiles and hot sauces, high prices due to the location. The lounge has a more fun and accessible menu (and prices), but is astonishingly loud, so you have to be in the mood for mayhem. The key is probably drinking more. In the restaurant, a few glasses of wine, some appetizers and a tip is about $70."

  • "My wife and I went to the Prado for her birthday. I was outstanding all around. I can't tell you how satisfied the whole experience was. If you want a wonderful experience at a affordable price go to the Prado."

  • "Out of town friends wanted to lunch and Prado seemed perfect as they could see museums and the beauties of Balboa Park before and after. The service was excellent as my friends are "gluten free" and the menu was marked -- plus the cracker served with the excellent hummus appetizer was replaced on request with GF taro chips. The views and ambiance was delightful, we were not rushed, and the food was excellent. I was glad I had a Cohn Restaurants discount card (purchased at Costco) because that cut cost 20%."

  • "A delicious meal and it's close to the theater so makes a perfect pre event meal. Plus on Tuesday nights they have a great special. What a deal!!"

  • "Been to the Prado several times and will continue to go, but this night wasn't the best. Started off a little rough when we sat at our table for 10 minutes before a server came over. Would have been nice to get the quick "I'll be right with you" earlier or a "Sorry about the wait" when she finally came over. The calamari appetizer was as good as ever (which is damn good) and the blood orange cosmo and Prado margarita were both great. I had the braised short ribs - not really that great - a little dry and underwhelming. My wife had the salmon and she enjoyed it, but commented that the sauce was trying to do too much. The wines (and wine selection) were both good. Overall - just not what we're used to at the Prado, but we'll be back."

  • "Our dinner at the Prado was brilliant. There's nothing better than eating excellent food al fresco in Balboa park. The restaurant is stunning and it serves food to match the surroundings. Highly recommend the Prado."

  • "We often take out-of-town visitors to The Prado for lunch on the patio. The menu & service is always good and the ambiance is great. However, the new parking configuration is not user friendly especially for handicapped and at lunch time when there is no valet parking. The drop off in front isn't enough to lessen the inconvenience. Can't imagine this is going to help business."

  • "The Prado is my favorite restaurant in San Diego. For my birthday, we always go to celebrate. The Kobe beef roll for an appetizer is flavorful and delicious. The filet mignon was perfect. And the pumpkin creme brule was amazing. I give my highest recommendation to the Prado. And our service was amazing. "

  • "We dine here fairly frequently. We love the Prado. We went mainly for the location last night, but the food is always delicious and fresh. The chocolate dessert was among the best I have ever had....ever!! Our waiter, Chance, was friendly and efficient. We always enjoy eating here whether it is for lunch or for dinner. The location is classic and the food is very fresh and "California"."

  • "Date night is a wonderful idea and keeps up coming back to all the Cohn restaurants that offer this special. Always great food and service. The calamari appetizer in a cabbage leaf bed and surrounded by cole slaw is a meal in itself - spicy and tender. The short ribs literally fell apart with a fork and the pork loin was juicy and LARGE. We'll be back."
