  • "This was our first time at the Plumed Horse. We made two errors. One, we were dining before a 7:30 concert at Montalvo...big mistake. This fine restaurant is designed for slow, leisurely dining to fully savor and appreciate all the wonders it has to offer. Our second error was having a late lunch that day. One needs to be very hungry to experience the wonderful little surprises that are sent out by the chef in addition to the fabulous cuisine that is served. We were so enthralled with the service, the food and the fine wines and the ambiance that we are planning a trip back to the area solely for the purpose of dining at The Plumed Horse. Outstanding experience from the moment you walk through the door!"

  • "My girlfriend and I celebrated our 50ths here with our husbands and had a great evening. The mozzarella beignets were the best bite all night, and that honor did not come easily. The soufflé and halibut were also fantastic - 5stars, oh and the truffle fries we had in the bar. We also had the risotto, the watermelon salad, the salmon, and the rib-eye all excellent but a bit below those first dishes. The service was good but not great, especially in the bar. The chocolate dessert was also very good but we were probably too full to completely enjoy. We will be back."

  • "Every aspect you would value in fine dining, I found beyond reproach at The Plumed Horse. The champagne cart was fabulous and fun. The Kathryn Kennedy Blanc de Blanc is a fantastic local gem that we enjoyed with the earlier courses. We also had a bottle of the Whetstone Hirsch Pinot Noir. Bottles are decanted in beautiful glassware at your table, adding to the ambience. We really enjoyed chatting with the sommelier about the specific terroir associated with Hirsch bottlings. It's worth noting that they offer by-the-glass Hirsch pinot as well. The cheese cart was a fun pre-dessert diversion, well-recommended. I'm a little surprised TPL has one Michelin star and Manresa has two, as we enjoyed our experience here quite a bit more."

  • "We've dined here before and had a great time, but the food and service were even better than we remembered. We had the tasting menu this time, and each course was better than the one before. Exquisite prawns, halibut, gnocchi, lamb, etc. The little smoked trout cannoli gift from the kitchen was memorable, as was the entire meal. The service was extraordinary - that rare balance of attention, warmth and humor without being too familiar. And this started at the front door and included every service person. The bar and dining room are both lovely and vibrant; the music and lighting designed to enhance the experience. Very special."

We had the tasting menu. The souffle is amazingly good! The lamb was like eating salt from a tablespoon. The rest of the dishes were bland."

  • "We've been going to the Plumed Horse since our first date, 29 years ago. Back then it was decorated in deep red velvet -- kind of early 'Reign of Terror' red -- but the food was great. These days the ambience is much more refined, but the food is still wonderful. The staff was very friendly and attentive making the evening perfect. We'll be back!"

  • "We had been to this restaurant as far back as the late 1970's. The last time we went was a year ago and we still loved it. This time we had visitors from out of town and wanted to go somewhere special. The food could not be more disappointing. The menu had changed from last year and there were so few choices. The only good appetizer was the cheese soufflé. The tasting menu had too many dishes that we didn't like. The main courses were again extremely limited. Three of us ordered the pressed chicken and one of us ordered the pork. The pork was ok, but the chicken was the most tasteless thing I have ever eaten. I had pressed chicken in NYC and I ate my fingers. Not here. We are so disappointed and won't go back."

  • "Everything about the Plumed Horse lives up to its name; the food, wine, staff, and ambience are superior. We enjoyed the Chefs Tasting Menu for an incredible meal. The soufflé, uni, and dungeness crab fondue is over the moon. Don't miss that. The wine selection at Plumed Horse is also a good reason to stop by. Sommelier was extremely helpful in recommending wines that paired perfectly with our food. This was a special occasion for us and we will never forget our memorable evening at Plumed Horse. Looking forward to taking friends and family for more culinary treats."

Burgundy wine's subtle elements are only enjoyable after certain amount of time, say 10 years, and they have ample amount of list of well aged burgundy. Of course, foods are perfectly matched with wines."

Since Manresa is closed due to a fire I checked to see what else was available and everyone pointed me to the Plumed Horse.   • "We came here for our 1st anniversary. Servers greeted us well and wished us a Happy Anniversary. We got the Chef's tasting menu which was delicious. The savory soufflé was especially good. We shared the wine tasting and the server was nice to split it between two glasses. Make sure you have plenty of time to enjoy the food as we were there for 3 hours : ) On our way out the server also invited us into the wine cellar to take some memorable pictures"

  • "I'd say 3.5 stars. The Plumed Horse is a romantic restaurant that's great for couples. We went with good friends and had a great time. We each ordered something different so that we could taste test a variety of items. From the appetizers to the entrees everything was very good. The staff was courteous and friendly. Not 4 stars because: the dessert menu was lacking with only 4 items listed, they measure the amount of coffee your allotted to 12 oz so they do not fill up your cup on round 2 (really?) and for those that bring in their own wine - they charge a $50 corkage fee for each bottle."

  • "The Chef here is a visionary. For those of you who want a full sensory /gustatory experience, this is the place. The food was unexpected, excellent and tasty. I am picky and I was so taken by surprise at the quality and finesse of the food and flavor.The only complaint was the lobster ravioli where someone got heavy handed with the salt. You have the option of trying the Chef's offering $125 or individual portions of appetizers and entrees. They ply you with extras which were complete surprises and aims to please with beautiful touches and presentations. The service was impeccable and the wait staff were not pretentious but served with a smile. Recommend this splurge anytime you are in Saratoga. The cocktails were pretty good too. Loved it."

  • "Overall, the price paid for he value was not quite there for Plumed Horse. It's not a case of "this place is just too expensive." We've been to establishments of similar price that really delivered. Plumed Horse came up a little short. The portions were reasonable (on the smaller side) and priced as if larger. In the middle of the meal, we both thought - "this was fun, but we don't need to come back."

  • "Everything about my experience is what you would expect from a Michelin star rated restaurant. My girlfriend came here to celebrate her birthday. Both of us are experienced in fine dining have have a tendency to be hypercritical when we dine out. Even so, the experience was fantastic overall. We ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings. Every dish was fantastic, but our favorite was the parmesan souffle with the uni/crab supplement. I wish I could give 3.5 stars for service. There were a few mistakes made but most would have gone unnoticed. The halibut dish was served without silverware and our portions were different sizes. It also felt like there was never an opportunity missed to upsell us. Nitpicking aside, though, it was great."

My wife and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary and had the chef's tasting menu, which was adapted for my wife's food allergies to be pescatarian based [just as noted on their website]. Tuna carpaccio to start things off was a great treat. King of the show was the Souffle, a must have and worth a repeat visit! Plummed Horse Pinot Grigio, as well as the Noir were topped our pairings rankings. Overall, the evening was a special treat, made memorable by a great staff and exquisite local flare. Thanks to Manual and Juila for making it extra special for us."

  • "Took my father here for his birthday, and he loved it. He is usually difficult to impress, but could not get enough of the uni and dungeness crab soufflé. All three of the amuse bouche were quite tasty. I felt the antelope and the petrale sole lacked a little flavor, but the salmon was cooked sous vide and was perfect. My sister loved her pressed petaluma chicken. Overall, I had a great experience and would come back for special occasions."

  • "I've flown to Europe for dinner at El Bulli and eaten twice at French Laundry (and once at Per Se!) but my goodness the meal I had at Plumed Horse was right up there with one of the most perfect meals of my life. We ended up missing the show we had tickets to that night because dinner lingered, but it was just so @#$#@ing good neither my partner nor I cared. We ended up going a full hour longer than I thought as we leisurely strolled out the door (or waddled), full of the best food there is. You can travel the world but you don't get better than that."

  • "Our party of six people chose 4 tasting menus and 2 a la carte. We were really expecting outstanding taste in the dishes as it is a one starred Michelin, and were somewhat disappointed that food was just slightly average. The only dish that we raved about was the souffle with the sea urchin, which was outstanding. Otherwise, food is not as tasty or wow factor as Manresa, nearby in Los Gatos. But restaurant was full with diners, just a nice place to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. Service was very, very good. "

  • "we went to the restaurant with out of towners who have multiple homes and a very full life. the woman has lots of special food needs and was very well-cared for by the chef and the wait staff. she was VERY happy (not often the case at restaurants) and so, too, her husband. we enjoyed the many different courses. very fine sommelier advise. Julia was a superb waitress and spoke spanish and italian to our multiligual guests. Manuel, the maitre d, was very welcoming, as always. kudos to all"
