Diner Reviews
  • "The waiter was pleasant but seemed to have something else going on during our stay. The food was fresh and well prepared. Would have been nice as we were leaving if someone was there to thank us and say good bye."

  • "I took my daughter, who was visiting from Colorado, to The Pluckemin Inn. We had such a wonderful eveninig. The food was delicious, the service just enough, but not overbearing, and the surroundings comfortable and not stuffy. We will definitely be back, yet again. I have been here a few times and I am never disappointed."

  • "My husband and I go to the Pluckemin Inn every year for our anniversary. They've sat us at the same table for 7 years and every meal has been amazing. The service is what makes this a much more enjoyable experience than some of it's competitors - namely Ninety Acres at Natirar. The wine list is exemplary and the food is always decadent. I highly recommend this to everyone."

  • "Having to travel through Somerville and having heard the accolades about the restaurant, I thought I'd stop for a later (1:45) lunch. I chose the Plucky Power lunch as an introduction to their food and was very pleased with the salad and pasta combination. The ingredients were first rate as was the preparation; 4 1/2 to 5 stars. The wine list is quite extensive, especially the by the glass selections. I found two very nice wines to accompany my courses. Talking to my waiter, who is very knowledgeable about wine, I remarked about the depth of their red Bordeaux collection. Having cellered at least 18 of these chateaus from the 70's and 80's, I know the quality. The prices are reasonable given some of these vintages. I'll return."

  • "It was my Birthday and it was the worst treatment I have ever received. We were ignored and only approached at our table by the waiter after we left the restaurant and heading for the door because no one approached the table for 20 Minutes. (We should have not even waited that long). It turns out the waiter past our table at least 6 times and did not even say "I will be right with you" it was like we were invisible."

  • "I've been wanting to go to the Pluckemin Inn for years and finally made a reservation this week to celebrate my husband's birthday. The restaurant is beautiful, the service outstanding, and the food was innovative and very delicious without being too "out there" as many restaurants can get. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire evening and for a celebratory occasion, it was worth the cost. We plan to return to try the prix fixe menu with wine pairings and to eat in the Tavern, too!"

  • "Great wine list. Food was good but not great. Our sever was not as good as others nearby. Other tables were offered mor specials and better descriptions of the specials. Doubt we'll be going back."

  • "Anticipated that dinner for four would 250-300...not over $400 for food that was mediocre. If you charge 32 bucks for chicken, at least serve it hot and some unique spicing might be nice. $70 for an avg. sized steak ( I know, I know it's aged ) has even Peter Luger's blushing. Wine for $50 per bottle that can be bought retail for 19.99. To be fair, they seem to use quality ingredients and they certainly try to be creative (at least in describing their dishes)....it just seems that the execution is never quite there (similar experience w/ business lunches) and they charge up the wazoo. Judging by the cars in the lot, Ferrari's , etc., the locals are keeping them busy, but I learned along time ago that money doesn't equate with good taste."

  • "Service was excellent except for the fact that my wine was corked and I didn't stick up for myself to the woman who poured. I said maybe it was bad; she told me it was checked by a sommelier, and I guess I didn't trust myself enough. Sure enough a different? sommelier came to the table about 10 minutes later to confirm my suspicion. He apologized, explained what the issue was, and brought us another bottle (they were out of the one I ordered). He was great, service was great. I just can't stand when my water is refilled constantly. Just a pet peeve. Onto the food. It was palate-pleasing/exciting and eye-pleasing. I had a lump crab appetizer (fresh and bright) and a rye gnocchi that was unctuous. The wine was so pleasing I skipped dessert!"

  • "Wife has a long list of allergies and we don't always communicate ALL of them, as it can be overwhelming. Several months since our last visit and when I started to describe her allergies, the server already knew them. They recorded her allergies from an earlier visit and briefed the servers in advance! Nice. When she picked walnuts off a salad, the waiter noticed and asked if she didn't like them. She told him she was allergic to tree nuts and he rushed back to the kitchen to update her list. That attention to detail and generous accommodation of allergies makes a huge impression and we will be back sooner, rather than later. Bravo! By the way, the food and service is fantastic for the non-allergic too! :-)"

  • "The Pluckemin (staff, food, wine collection, seating) never disappoints! I have been going since it opened---I hope it never closes. Lunch, dinner, wine tastings, wine dinners, private dining; I have done it all. Now they need to find a way to do breakfast!!"

  • "It was not very crowded when we got there but we had a reservation and were immediately seated. We sat near the fireplace in the main Dining Room. The ambiance was nice and the attention we received was excellent. The wait staff was prompt, very courteous, and professional. Our appetizers of Yellow Fin Tartar was out of this world and the shrimp cocktails were fresh and had great flavor. I have to say the presentation of our food was excellent as well. My companion had picked a dish but wanted it done a little differently and the chef not only made substitutions but created a unique plate based on her choices. On the whole the experience was outstanding. This was my first time there and it will become a regular for us now. Bravo!"

  • "We had dinner at the inn on a recent Friday. The service was outstanding from the start. We were served a lovely aperitif, which was then followed by a waiter offering a basket of different breads. We chose the spicy twists which were unique and flavorful. The meals themselves were great. Amazing flavors. Another nice feature is that each of the fish options were offered in a 3 or 6 ounce portion. Our coffee included a small plate of bite size desserts. Wonderful."

  • "We have been going to this restaurant for 10 years!! It is always the same excellent service, incredible food, amazing wine list!!! This is the place for a special occasion or more importantly for a date night! You can purchase the wine to take home as well; many times we just do that to continue the celebration at home!! I have also been in the tavern which is fun and lively. We have taken friends there who enjoyed the experience."

  • "From bread choices & amous bouche to petit fours, the Plucky delivers. This (2nd) time, we brought guests. The chicken entrees were divine. I had a shrimp app and risotto course that made me want to hold the complex flavors in my mouth until they melted. The mixologist makes a generous drink. Kudos, chef (and staff)!"

  • "We had a fantastic meal on Saturday, February 8th 2014. Everything was outstanding or at the high end of very good. Although we've been to the Pluckemin Inn before this was our best experience to date. We had a great table on the second level in front of the fire place. The staff was very attentive and everyone's meal in our party was outstanding. Highly recommended for all!"

  • "Anticipated a classier environment, most people dressed up jeans. Didn't feel very welcome although staff was nice. Ran out of fish special by 7:30pm. Surprised at interior, nice warm environment, just lacks welcoming feel and space to enjoy while you wait. Expected to love it, sad it didnt meet the hype."

  • "Went there to celebrate my husband's birthday. Booked an early table as my husband was flying in from Europe and knew he would want to get to bed early. Despite the early reservation, we had to wait about a half hour for our table. Other than this minor annoyance, the meal was mostly flawless. Service was outstanding."

  • "The Pluckemin inn is definately the best food experience I've ever had. I surprised my girlfriend for her birthday for taking her there and we both wound up having a great time. My girlfriend and I are not wine conosuers but the waiter made several suggestions to us and explained it as elementary to is as possible. He was spot on with what we chose to drink. The food was outstanding. I am not a seafood fan in the least bit but i figure I'd give it a shot in a place like this. Let's just say I have found a brand new respect for seafood. Unbelievably amazing. I even tried octopus for the first time. This delicacy was voiced to perfection. I love this place."

  • "I loved everything about the restaurant but I left hungry. Portions were very small ( some may like that) and I wasn't satisfied. I heard the bar has a different menu and perhaps heartier portions. I would definitely go back!"

  • "Visited or lunch, the lunch menu ws sufficient and had good variety. The food was well prepared and neither too much nor too little. I took an old friend and client and we had a delightful and easy meal."

  • "Came here for lunch for the second time. First time we ate outside. Now that it is winter, we ate inside in the restaurant (not the tavern). The service and food were excellent. We are heading back for dinner this week!"

  • "the bar area was crowded but looked great- we were there for a date night and our table was in the wine cellar. it was perfect. the waiter was knowledgeable about the menu, the assistant waiter kept our drinks filled, and the food was exquisite. this was only our second time at the inn, but it was just as wonderful as the first."

  • "I've eaten at the tavern here before and they have the best burgers around. I also really like the atmosphere. This was the first time I'd eaten at the restaurant. Service was great as was the food. The scotch based cocktail was very good, albeit sweeter that I had expected or care for. The lobster salad appetizer was delicious and The Meyer lemon dressing was wonderful. I had the Griggstown Chicken as an entree and it too was impeccable. The skin was nice and crisp and the root vegetables were cooked perfectly. We had a chocolate coconut rum cake for dessert which fell a little flat. It may have done better served at room temperature. One more note. Do not turn away the breads. They are fabulous and come from Balthazar Bakery in NYC."

  • "our first visit here. we got a lovely table by the fireplace. food was excellent. orders of beet salad and spaghetti chitaterra to start. dinners were a steak, salmon, chicken and the pork chop all from the main menu. all 4 plates were clean! excellent side accompaniments for each dinner. we were all too full for dessert but were given a small plateof cookies with our coffees. this little bit of sweetness is a perfect ending and I find the nicest touch."

  • "This is a very special restaurant. We enjoy going there for an intimate celebration of birthdays and anniversaries. Our dinners were delicious, although my husband's (salmon) was rather small for the money. Nice selection of beers and wines. Our waiter was attentive and pleasant. Dessert was outstanding and more than adequate (dulce le leche sundae). All the staff were friendly. If it was a little less expensive we would dine there more often."

  • "We are 3 foodies who are now fans of the Pluckemin Inn. All 3 of us had the Power Lunch but we each had a different combination. The house salad would have been a meal by it &self - flavorful with unique blend dof ingredients. I had the Mushroom Soup which had levels of flavor - I am going to try to duplicate it. Also had the Orrechiette & Butternut Sequash entree - mild but ever so delicious. For dessert, we had the Coconut Rum Cake, the Chocolate Tart & the Meyer Lemon Creme Brulé. AWESOME gem of a restaurant."

  • "This was my first time at the restaurant. Ambiance was good, service was good, food had nice presentation but quality was only fair and price was very high for the quality. I don't know if I will go back. Seems to me to be another NJ restaurant thinking they can charge NY prices without the quality."

  • "I've eaten there twice, once in the bar and once in the dining room. The menu is the same in both places and you can get into the bar without a reservation, but the bar is noisier and does not offer the prix fixe menu. As far as I can tell, all other menu options are available in the bar. In the dining room they were willing to let u mix and match items from the prix fixe menu."

  • "This was our first time at the restaurant. Everything was wonderful from the time we drove up to the end of our dining experience. The food and service was impeccable. We also liked the fact that you could order an item for your regular dinner off the pre-fixed menu. Our food was prepared perfectly and with the freshest ingredients. We are definitely looking forward to going back."
