Diner Reviews
  • "We had a wonderful experience at Plant. Our server was quite attentive but not intrusive. Our veggie burgers were delicious. We sat on the patio and delighted in the gorgeous hanging baskets overflowing with flowers as well as the view of the Bay. We love Plant!!"

  • "We are gluten free and dairy free. The food was gourmet, allergy friendly and we sat with a view of the bay. One of our favorite places to eat in the city. The raw desserts are amazing."

  • "Great food and a good wine selection make this location great for food and drinks. Open kitchen and family style tables available. A nice combination of seating options to choose from. Personnel very friendly and approachable. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal there and a bill of 130 USD all in for three plus drinks was good value."

  • "I went there on Sunday. The waitress was very nice. I couldn't sit outdoor as we have more than 4 people. I wish they change the policy."

  • "Great location and menu. The Plant is probably a bit overpriced, but there isn't much like it around. Great place for lunch with friends or colleagues on a nice day. On our most recent visit, both of our orders were a bit off- soup never came until the end of the meal (but was nicely comped because of this) and I was given a full sandwich instead of the half I ordered (but only charged for the half). Seems the kitchen may have been a bit frazzled-- but really not much to complain about!"

  • "For the Pier location: Amazingly delicious food, reasonably priced, mostly organic, healthy options, great service, great ambience, what more can you ask for? I will be returning often to this restaurant."

  • "This is a nice place for a light lunch or brunch after a hectic morning at the farmers market at the Ferry Building. It is close to the market (so you don't have to lug your farmers market purchases too far) but far enough from the crowds to be relaxing, especially on the deck."

  • "The restaurant was great, probably because we had a reservation. The hostess was super rude to the people ahead of us. They simply asked for a table for 4 and she snaps "do you have. Reservation?" When they said no, she said there was quite the wait. Restaurant was empty the entire time we dined. I get that reservations come first, but not serving these people? Ridiculously snobby and made me seriously think twice about coming back."

  • "Food was amazing. Service was not great. They served soup without a spoon and couldn't find a spoon. By the time they did, the soup was cold and the rest of the party had nearly finished their meals. Also an order for a plant burger with soup instead of the sides got mixed up for soup and a side of potatoes... Odd. By the time the correct order came out everyone else was done eating. That said once the food was eaten it tasted great and the restaurant is in a great location along the water."

  • "I spent a lovely evening with friends who are eating Paleo. The food fit the bill and it was a lovely evening with great food."

  • "We had the hummus platter and the Plant burger with white cheddar and avocado. Both were absolutely amazing! We will definitely return to the Plant for another delicious meal!"

  • "I called the Plant to change numbers of people a day before. They didn't correct it. The hostess had us wait for at least 15 minutes despite of the reservation."

  • "Our waiter was just bizarre. He seemed to want to be helpful, but wasn't. More training, please! The food was very good."

  • "The wervice was sketchy. We ordered family style and we had to ask twice for serving utensils while the food was gettng cold. Small portions. Fish and duck were overcooked."

  • "I've eaten dinner at Plant several times and have enjoyed the food each time. I like sitting in outdoor are closer to water (protected w/plastic and heaters when cold.) This time we ate inside at tall bar stools at main shared table, was fine. I had Quinoa bowl with tofu - good - a little salty. Dessert of bread pudding with sea salt caramel was delicious. Overall good experience. Only complaints are the music - smooth jazz/sax the entire time was god awful and almost ruined the night. Other complaint was they wouldn't serve us coffee with dessert because they said "coffee service was closed!" (at 9:45) Other complaint was that they were mopping the floor and cleaning up around us before we were finished (around 10) which felt rude."

  • "Begin with beautifully prepared scallops with a luscious aioli - so nice. Then enjoy well prepared flavorful duck breast on creamy polenta. But my friend's beet, mushroom, lentil and bulgur wheat veggie burger was omg over the top INCREDIBLE. A must try."

  • "We ordered the tasting menu which turned out to be very tiny. There was soup (cold) and "lasagna" also cold. The food was okay. Not outstanding, but very expensive for what it was. Don't go there if you're hungry."

  • "This is the second time I have eaten here. On both occasions, the hostess was efficient but not welcoming. Overall, the food was good, our waitress was helpful, but this time, our service was very slow. Several of our dishes arrived cold, one of our dishes was order late and one of our dishes had ingredients different from what was listed on the menu. The food was tasty, but not outstanding. The wait staff was insufficient to handle the number of people. "

  • "I went to lunch with 3 friends during the work week. The service was fast so that we were able to get back to the office within an hour or so of arriving. I think we felt a little rushed even. We set at a great outdoor table. We all enjoyed our food, but two of my friends ordered the soup/sandwich lunch combo and both wished there had been more sandwich they enjoyed it so much."

  • "I met a college friend who I hadn't seen for 20 years at the Plant Café - perfect place - close to the Ferry, hotels, excellent healthy menu. I'm vegan and the choices were fantastic - and fantastically priced. I initially thought we should meet at Greens, but this was way more convenient and affordable and easy for all of us to get to, coming from different directly."

  • "The Plant Cafe has a wonderful outdoor space with a beautiful view of the waterfront. The restaurant has a lot of vegetarian options and a great selection of healthy juices. The plant burger is great. The cocktails have quit interesting combination; my friend had one with kombucha which she said was yummy."

  • "I love the food and the atmosphere at Plant Cafe Organic, where vegans and omnivores can eat in harmony. I'm a little put off by the attitude, though. With numerous tables open, some folks who came in while we were waiting for our (reserved) table were told there was a 20-minute wait. Why? I also take issue with any restaurant that won't seat me until the entire party arrives. And the table service was only mediocre. Wish they would improve the overall customer care, but I'll keep going back no matter what 'cause the food is so dang good. "

  • "Food was only mediocre -- nothing was very tasty -- and the service was the worst I've had in quite some time. We had a dull, indifferent waiter who took about 15 minutes to bring the water we'd requested, another 20 to take our order and another 20 minutes after that to place our order with the kitchen (which I know because he came back to our table to confirm it, even though he had appeared to be writing it down when he took it). When I gave him my credit card to pay, he had it for 10 minutes before bringing it back to the table, having "stacked" three receipts for different tables and looking unsure which table got which receipt/credit card after he'd run the tabs. First day on the job, perhaps? I sure hope so."

  • "We've been to Plant Cafe for lunch / brunch in the past but never dinner. This was a first but definitely won't be the last. Our server was terrific and very helpful. We all ordered different dishes and no one was disappointed. The quinoa bowl I had was superb. Only complaint is having to leave restaurant to find a restroom which turned out to be closed for cleaning a number of times over a 3 hour period."

  • "We have been here many times before but this was the first time disappointed. My husband i enjoyed the scallops and crabcake. My chicken salad was dry and tastekess. When i ordered extra dressing i got soy sauce. My husband was not thrilled with duck dinner. "

  • "So many waterfront restaurants are tourist oriented and some are not very good. It's often tough to find a good restaurant with varied food options that isn't overly expensive in or near the Financial District. This restaurant is a great choice to overcome those challenges. The menu is varied and has options for everybody--all very healthy choices. The prices are very reasonable. The service is incredibly efficient and friendly. This restaurant is a great choice along the waterfront right next to the Financial District, close to MUNI and BART. I hope that it stays around for a long time. "

  • "We chose The Plant - Cafe Organic for a special lunch as part of an anniversary celebration. We didn't want something over-the-top with tons of food and richness we didn't need -- just some place that served the right amount of healthy great food that didn't make you feel like you overdid it at the end. We chose the right place. I had the tasty, light duck confit pizza and my wife had the stuffed peppers. Simple. Great. Just right. Just a little wait for a patio table right on the Bay. Friendly attentive staff. Could have used wi fi in the restaurant."

  • "The only thing going for this place is the location. The food is boring and lackluster. Nobody enjoyed their meals and I have had better food at Denny's."
    Dined on 5/5/2014
  • "Great atmosphere. Moderately priced but the food was neither bland nor distinct. Beverages were overpriced, $7 for a small bottle of Pelligrino?!, Love Blue Bottle coffee, but this was brewed bitter and the Americano was lukewarm"

  • "Every time we've eaten here, it's been grey! They have a really good selection for vegans! I'm not vegan, but I have friends who are. This isa great place to take them. Everyone can get something they'll love."

  • "We picked the once a year evening in San Francisco when the weather is over 80F and sat outside with a view of the Bay. One of us is Vegan and we had picked the restaurant for its menu offering. We shared the hummus plate and kale salad. I had the spicy curry, one of us had pizza and other the vegetarian burger. All very good. We finished with the chocolate and non-cheese cheesecake - very tasty. This was all very fresh with well balanced spices and made for a very enjoyable dinner. I arrived late but others had a drink at the full bar. The wine list by the glass was very depleted that evening - the only off note. "

  • "I love the Plant! I often go to the one in the Marina for a smoothie or salad, but the downtown Pier 3 location is perfect for a nice dinner on the water! It is also more affordable than some of the other water restaurants! Great spot to take visitors or catch up with friends. "

  • "Really enjoyed every bit of food - unique combinations from the appetizer through the dessert course. They had some nice wine offerings and really interesting mixed drinks. Service was good, but not awesome."
