Diner Reviews
  • "Very tasty salads and vegetables, a good place for vegetarians."

  • "Colleague and I attended a conference at the Hyatt for a week. We hit the plant upon arrival for a quick salad, we were hooked immediately. We had smoothies every morning, and went for supper there twice. Everything we tried was fabulous!the atmosphere was fun and the service was great!"

  • "Dining at The Plant is a really fun experience. The various dishes are most always interesting experiences and rival the City's best fare. It's pricey. The ambience floats from romantic to claustrophobic depending upon your location."

  • "Have been here several times but our last visit was disappointing. The food was bland and the salads dry"

  • "Not a whole lot to say, honestly. There's a reason this place gets so busy, it's popular with both locals and tourists alike. Request patio seating for a view and heat lamps or sit indoors and admire the decor. great healthy options and friendly staff."

  • "Food was delicious, service could have been slightly more attentive, but we didn't mind too much b/c we were busy socializing. It was just hard to get someone's attention (at least 10 mins) when one of our friends arrived late and wanted to order food & bev. I'd love to sit on the outside terrace and get a better sense of the view and being on the water. I guess we'll have to try again during warmer months. It's nice to have a healthy dinner and not feel too guilty about what we're eating. It's the first time I've ever seen a table of women all order their OWN desserts (instead of sharing!)."

  • "I loved the fresh juices. I had a small immunity builder and it was delicious. I wish I would have gotten a medium but they are a little pricey. Breakfast was really good. There wasn't anything extraordinary about it but I was definitely satisfied and would go back again."

  • "Best veggie burger ever! They make vegetarian eating interesting and delicious!"

  • "I am gluten and lactose intolerant, so finding a restaurant that can accommodate my food sensitivities without much fuss is a welcome thing. Plant Cafe has many items for me to choose from, all beautifully prepared and very good. My friends without such issues also enjoyed the salads and fresh juice. I made a reservation, and my guests showed up 15 minutes late. When two thirds of us had arrived, the host said he could not seat incomplete parties. But he also said he had another group schedule to sit at our table at 7, which made me anxious the entire time that someone would give us the boot! That little exchange was rather irritating. Our server was wonderful though--polite and patient with a group of indecisive women."

  • "Wonderful food, GREAT service, delicious desserts."

  • "I really enjoyed my visit to Plant Cafe and my dining companions enjoyed their meals very much. However, I ordered the Margharita pizza, which was disappointing. I'm not sure what was wrong with it, but the flavor was not right."

  • "Mostly organic food. Portions are a bit small for lunch."

  • "Really enjoyed the wasabi plant burger and the raspberry cashew cheesecake (my hat is off to kitchen and chef). Seriously some of the best cheesecake I've had in a while. Front of house is not as polished as you would expect for food of this quality, but our waiter helped pull everything together nicely. It was an enjoyable evening, planning go back."

  • "Right on the water so an amazing view. Food was terrific. I was treating a client who's vegan; we both had delicious meals. I'd highly recommend this to anyone seeking healthy food & a gorgeous view."

  • "It can be tricky picking a nice spot to meet someone for the first time. The Plant was great. Open, great view of the water as we sat outside to get some San Francisco spring sunshine. The service was great. Prompt but not intrusive. I had never has brunch there and I was not disappointed. Starting with a fresh juice and then continuing with the huvos rancheros was a great start for the day and our conversation. All in all a great place to meet and eat."

  • "The host was extremely rude and condescending. We had a reservation and had gotten there early to wait for an outdoor seat. He was not accommodating and we waiting a while to be seated inside even though many tables were empty. The service was extremely slow but the waitress was nice and comped one of our entrees. The food was mediocre."

  • "Besides the fantastic seafood, the place had great vegan and organic options. Awesome deserts too"

  • "One of the few restaurants along the Embarcadero that I frequent and recommend. The Plant Burger (housemade veggie patty using lentils, beets and other goodness) is amazing. The cocktails and smoothies are also excellent, as are the pizzas. Be sure to request a seat on the outdoor heated patio overlooking the water. It's great people watching on warm days."

  • "Gluten free pizza crust was great, as was the beet salad. Non-dairy cheesecake was better than the real thing. And the cocktails were perfect."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "Plant is a great place for vegans to go with non-vegans -- they have several delicious vegan entrees and lots of non-vegan stuff. I've had the BBQ Tempeh which I really liked and the Quinoa Bowl which was fantastic. I've eaten a lot of quinoa bowls and this one is my favorite so far. I tried the Plant Burger a couple of years ago and wasn't all that impressed, but I would give it another go the next time I am there (the wasabi burger sounds intriguing). I also have to give a shout out to the bartender for the blood orange margarita (sadly, a special of the night, not on their regular menu) and the Plant Punch (which is on the menu). Portion size is ample and cost is very reasonable. It can get noisy & the tables are packed tight."

  • "Very enjoyable experience. Waitstaff very helpful and never rushed us. Food was served in a reasonable time. Well-prepared food."

  • "The food here really is quite excellent. The second visit lived up to the first in that regard. The service has not been great either time we were there, particularly the second, when we were seated for a very long time before a drink order was taken, and an even longer time after it was taken. The server seemed to have too much territory to cover - she was apologetic, but a half hour wait for a cocktail is extreme. Still, the food is great, the view is great, the servers are pleasant - just scarce."

  • "The Plant is a good choice on the Embarcadero: really nice food, quality ingredients, well -crafted drinks . . . unfortunately, the service is consistently dreadful, so adjust your expectations accordingly."

  • "I've been here a few times now. Very different vibe from downtown location. Love the food, great for vegans and omnis alike. This time I went with work colleagues (I'm vegan, they're omnis) and everyone loved the food, service, and ambiance. Last time I came by myself and did feel I wasn't treated well, not friendly service and people sitting next to me were getting better service, being told about specials, had more prompt and attentive service, etc. It seems they don't like single diners. However, I do love the food, great vegan options, and will be back."

  • "My wife and I went to this restaurant for a special night out and while the food was pretty good, the service was terrible. The hostess gave us attitude and told us we had to wait when we walked in even though we had a reservation. Then our server and the bussers gave us horrible attitude all night, like when we asked for water or when we asked for corkage on the bottle of wine we brought. So in other words, while the food was good, the service was so terrible that we will never go back again."

  • "They only had the Pre Fixe menu for V day despite being told earlier we could order off the regular menu. They ran out of the tempura from the first course relatively early and we had to have the salad. The price was exorbitant for the portions. They did not even serve bread at the table for appetizer. Don't think we'll ever go there again."

  • "It was fantastic to find this place with organic, fresh veggies all over the menu right on the water so close to downtown. Loved the fresh veggie juice, house made veggie burger and green thai curry. But there is chicken, fish and turkey on the menu for our omnivorous friends as well. All this and a fantastic warm chocolate cake and home made espresso ice cream to boot! Very good experience. Will return."

  • "We had a reservation for brunch and were seated promptly. We were given good recommendations by the server and the food was indeed delicious. There were 5 of us and we tried the huevos rancheros and two different egg scrambles. We also ordered 2 stacks of pancakes for the table. Unfortunately, they were delivered at the same time as the main courses and were cold by the time we came to eat them. We also didn't get clean plates and cutlery automatically, only those of us who asked. We were very pleased with the quality of the food and the portion size. I didn't feel stuffed yet I ate all of my food, and their prices are very reasonable. We'll be back."

  • "We enjoyed a pre-movie dinner here and found something on the menu to please everyone, from Beet burger to duck breast. Nice Albarino by the glass, reasonable corkage in light of limited wine list. Delicious apple-chantrelle crostini appetizer. We will return."

  • "Fabulous service, worth the price of parking, colorful, delicious food that satisfied my extremely picky family. We are gluten and dairy intolerant, and some of us are vegetarian. This was a home run restaurant for all of us! Thank you for the visionary folks who built this gem!"

  • "Lately, I've been exploring various vegetarian focused restaurants and I was very pleased with Plant. I only had their daily soup and BBQ Tempeh. Wow, the tempeh was fantastic: tasty, provocative, and filling! It probably leaned towards a "bit too salty side," but not too much. Still, I now want to return to this place and try some of the other dishes. Lastly, you can't beat the location if you ever want to dine at the embarcadero and sit next to the bay."

  • "sweet and attentative service.....but way too many dishes and silverware are dirty....chicken still is dried out....standards are just too low"

  • "The four of us had a nice dinner at Plant. We've been there a few times and have always enjoyed ourselves. I had the chicken pizza and it was very good. The others seemed to enjoy their entrees as well. My wife loves the Plant burger. We ordered a sampler appetizer and it was very good, although I felt the portions were extremely small. All of us felt that way about the appetizer. My daughter thought it resembeled food art, nice looking, but not much food at all."

  • "I love this restaurant. It's one of my favorites in San Francisco. There is always a great option for a fantastic gluten free meal. I can also come here with my vegetarian friends as there are many options. The wine list and cocktails are also great. The waiters/waitresses are always great about helping me decide on my order. And, it's on the Embarcadero so the views on the walk over are amazing."

  • "Granted it was a 2:15 reservation, but it took forever just to place our orders and just as long to flag someone down to get the check."
    Dined on 2/3/2014
  • "Food was disappointing and the service slow even though there were not a lot of guests in the restaurant. Hot food was only warm and sandwich filling very thin. Now I understand why it was not crowded at lunchtime ."

  • "Wide ranging food and drink menu, all of it good to very good and moderate priced for its location. Attentive, patient wait service. Very convenient to public transportation and other attractions on the Embarcadero, on pier 3 near the Ferry building with a nice view of the bay! Who could want more?"

  • "Had heaps of options and honestly I don't think you could go wrong on any dish! Everything tasted delicious and was fresh and healthful. Great for someone who has food allergies, or just wants to eat healthy. This is definitely my new favourite restaurant!!!"

  • "Went for the first time early on Saturday evening. Sat outside which had a quiet atmosphere with a great view of the Bay Bridge. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the various gluten free and vegan options as well as being happy to find out more information about what was in the various dishes. Great all around experience with all natural food and ambiance."
