The Pit Authentic BBQJust OKMy husband & I were very excited to try dinner at The Pit. Went on a Wednesday evening and the place was rockin & rollin so we decided to dine some place different. Made reservations for Father's Day. I got the pork spare ribs (they were all out of baby back ribs) and it was SOOO TENDER. My sides weren't anything to write home about. I had mashed potatoes that were bland and kale that was just OK. My husband got the brisket and surprisingly it was sort of dry. His mac & cheese was pretty good, but he did not enjoy the collards. We shared a sampler platter that came with chicken wings. We thought the wings would be smoked, but they were fried. The soul rolls were the best! The biscuits were nothing special. We split two appetizers, two sides, two entrees and dessert which is basically all you can eat for one price. The meat was smoked to perfection, and the homemade sauces were very good. They also have a good list of micro brews available. The servers are all very pleasant even though they are also very busy. They always start you off with a basket of hush puppies and fresh homemade biscuits. Everything on their menu is to die for. It's always tough to pick what to eat. There are wonderful combination plates if you want to sample various items. The portions are very generous, it is tough to get up from our seats with our full bellies. We had the pleasure of sitting at a small bar facing the kitchen, while the restaurant was doing a training for new cooks at another location. We basically sat through a seminar on whole-hog roasting, while enjoying an excellent meal. Certainly not an every-day occurrence, but it just highlighted the overall excellent experience.

Free valet parking was a great start ( but of course who doesn't appreciate a tip). Immediate seating, someone at the table within seconds, not minutes, to take our drink and appetizer order, and the announcement that 3 people would be taking care of our group of 5's needs was not an idle promise. What kept the meal from being outstanding vs. OK was the small portion sizes for the premium price being charged for down home stuff like pulled pork, ribs, and fried chicken. it should have been wonderful for the amount charged. It was not. So I had to leave it at Energetic. Our table for 2 started out ideal and went quickly to where we couldn't hear ourselves due to the large groups nearby. Maybe I'm getting old, but I'm having to rule out loud places where we can't talk and enjoy each other's company as it's not worth the money. perhaps if we'd sat outside...
Anyway, back to the fantastic servicers on Tuesday night. This was some of the best service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. Many servers, pleasant servers, proactive and efficient.
