A word from The Pirates' House
The entire family is sure to enjoy Savannah's most intriguing & historic restaurant. At the Pirates' House, our most precious treasure is the food. Situated in Trustees Garden, merely a scant block from the Savannah River, the Famous Pirates' House is the most historic spot in Georgia. The Herb House, erected in 1734, located inside the Pirates' House, is said to be the oldest house in Georgia. The Pirates' House first opened in 1753 as an inn for seafarers and fast became a meeting point for blood-thirsty pirates & sailors. Enthusiastically recommended by AAA, Food & Wine and Redbook.

The food was awesome on the buffet line. Way better than Paula Deens. And, the kids love the pirate theme and costume pieces from the menu. Kids menu was quite cheap. We chose buffet but food is more for adults. Make rsvp or might be too busy. The tour could have been better.

We live near Savannah, and always take our visiting guests to our favorite restaurants in Savannah. The Pirate House is a must for the history, ambiance & theme dining, and good food. The staff (dressed in Pirate garb) were very friendly and came to the table to talk with us. On other occasions we have toured the rooms and I even took a photograph of a pirate ghost sitting on the counter in the kitchen. We hadn't seen him with our eyes, but the photo showed him clearly. This is an excellent choice for a dining experience and our guests are always pleased. There is ample parking at the restaurant so you don't have to search for a parking spot and walk blocks. I recommend the Pirate House highly.

Seafood augratin was awful, fishy, and nothing close to recipe on original cookbook. bscuits were great but menu is too pricey not to be any better quality than it was. I am a local but felt like it was a tourist trap. our grandson loves the gift shop but will think twice before we dine there again.

Front desk manager and house pirate went out of their way to have personal conversations with the adults. They also made our three girls feel like pirate celebrities. Fun atmosphere with the pirate tunnels, pirate hats and fairly simple but tasty food helped us all really enjoy the evening.

I heard many good reviews about this place, including a good friend of mine. It took me about an hour to get there, and was seated immediately. Once we ordered, the food came very quickly. Very surprising. No one was dressed up as pirates and walking around. Not sure if we had bad timing or what since other people have said there were costumed characters around. The food was mediocre. Definitely terribly overpriced. I would say if the menu was half the cost, it would be a good restaurant. I will definitely not return, since it cost me $90 and it was worth about $45. I had the scampi - it was ok and bland. The famous fried chicken was like any other fried chicken but a little sweeter from the pecans. Chicken friend pork was ok.

The inside of the place is so amazing. Anyone that is new to Savannah should come and dine at this place. I had the fried chicken for my dinner entree and it was delicious. The mango mojito was fresh and very "sneaky". This place is NOT a tourist trap.

I was expecting a tourist trap and instead we found an incredibly interesting building with the most delicious crabcakes I have ever had including my favorite restaurant in Maryland. All the food was well prepared but the crab cakes were incredible. Our server was pleasant and very knowledgeable about everything in the restaurant as well as Savannah. An overall very wonderful experience in Savannah.

If I wrote this review during the meal, I probably would have given The Pirates House four stars for the food. But then the food sank into our stomachs like a ball of grease and left all of us feeling ill. We had the buffet which includes dessert, but that isn't mentioned on the menu and the waiter did not mention it either. This was probably for the better considering how the rest of the food affected us. The ambiance is nice. There was a gentlemen dressed as a pirate but unfortunately he didn't interact with us except to wave back to our daughter as he was leading a couple on a tour of the building. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend but would tell them about it and our experience so they were aware.

I think this was the table that my girlfriend and i ate at for her birhtday drove a long way to take her to eat for her 50 birthday,,,will the table was maybe next to the wall but everytime someone wanted to walk to the bathroom instead of going around our table the squeezed thru the tiny space between our table and the wall and bumped us each time and it happened like 10-15 times during our dinner. I love the place to eat but was very un happy with this matter...

Everyone loves pirates so the concept of the Pirate House intrigued us. Then we looked up the menu online and were excited to go and try it out. We walked along the beautiful river front from our hotel and then up the street to the restaurant. The look of it was great. Historic and cozy and fun! Inside seemed like you had stepped back in time to a pirates hangout. We said we could imagine it being full of drunk laughing and singing pirates like on a movie. Our server was super friendly and gave us some great tourist tips for our trip and most of all we loved the food! We tried shrimp n grits for our first time and the biscuits were awsome! Were looking forward to going back for lunch!

The Pirate House was recommended by a number of sources. It is, as are many in Savannah, a historical building repurposed into a restaurant. The Herb House section of the building (where we had our meal) is the oldest building in the city (c. 1743). A costumed staff member provides tours and ghost stories to those who are interested. Pirates need their rum, and the Pirate House features a fine selection of them, as well as many other wines, beers & spirits. We shared the appetizer special, shrimp over linguine and salmon Romescu (a tomato-based sauce). Our server was very attentive and friendly; we had a chat after our meal about the history of the building, the other spirits reported to live there and his experiences with them.

The chicken was outstanding and the rest of the buffet was fine. The tour by the "pirate" was interesting. However, we had to stand around several minutes because the buffet was not replenished. Also, the waitress was VERY annoying in her repeated attempts to get us to order more alcohol than we did'

Since there was so many people there, we felt rushed. Main lady at hostess stand was tact to rude toward the ladies who seat the families as well as the families trying to tell her they had been summoned to be seated. Loved the pirates circling and sitting outside. Loved the legend surrounding it. Loved the pecan topping and fried chicken.

We were set in the jolly Roger room that had 3 tables. I liked this bc it was private but our server told us this was were the pirates would takes baths and the floor was tilted originally so the water would run off. One of the specials wad swordfish. I am extremely picky with my food... Especially fish. I was blown away. It was delivered that morning and you could taste it. Soft and juicy. . Just wonderful. After dinner we jumped in one of the free tours and learned so much about the history of Savannah, The tunnels and the oldest house in GA and why the builder designed it and the colors picked for the paint. Our tour guide was very personal and knew his history. All around. .. Wonderful gem of Savannah! Don't miss it!

Great place to get the real feel of Savannah! A must stop place to see and eat at. Food is wonderful and staff is friendly and welcoming from the moment you walk in the door. The place still has the old time tavern feel that must have been there long ago when the pirates roam those shores! The Gator tail and Scallops were delicious and our waiter was great! It was my husband's birthday and our waiter brought him a special dessert and gave him a pirate hat! My husband loved it! Thanks Pirate House for making his special day even more special!

You should go at least once if you are visiting Savannah - especially with kids. The historic building is supposed to be haunted. Pirates really did go there in the olden days and the theme is carried out in a fun but not overwhelming way. The food is heavy on fried foods and Southern favorites. We were happy with our fried chicken sandwiches and my chicken gumbo was not too bad. The real value was the Sunday all you can eat buffet -- heavy on the cholesterol -- many guests were tucking in happily. The toddler seated next to us at lunch was enthralled by the pirate hat and mustache he was awarded. Banana pudding and Key Lime pie are favorite desserts if you have any room left.

I was told about The Pirate House in 1996, while living in Maryland. My friend could not stop talking about it. He had been stationed at Fort Stewart in the 60's, eaten there and still remembered it. We were pleasantly surprised to go there so many years later and find that it was still memorable. Buffet was excellent and our children loved the costumes, decor and pirates roaming around. We will be back!
