A word from The Pinewood
The Pinewood is a neighborhood restaurant & bar that serves extraordinary cocktails and reinterpreted regional fare in downtown Decatur, Georgia.

We appreciate equally the high-class and the home-spun, and we think a neighborhood hangout ought to be both. That’s why our menu features elegantly inventive dishes alongside creative comfort foods, all of them made from locally sourced ingredients.

Our bar is stocked with not only the top-shelf spirits you’d expect but also house-made syrups, tinctures, infusions and sodas. Our service is friendly and gracious, our atmosphere both comfortable and refined.

Diner Reviews
  • "The pork belly biscuit was very good, but the bliss fries were terrible. Under cooked potatoes that were too dark on the outside. The grit tots are a cool idea, and looked great, but were extremely bland. The wine is reasonably priced, and I went in on Thursday evening when the bottles were half off. That was the highlight. The service was sub par, and it wasn't busy. Overall pretty disappointing, I probably won't be back."

  • "The food was good, but not great. The cocktails were fabulous! I'd go back just to hang out at the bar. Watching the bar tenders is a show in itself."

  • "Took some friends from out of town to Pinewood last weekend and we had a great time. The listed cocktails are great, but the bartenders are really good and made some custom stuff for us that was also excellent. We had very good meals as well (the steak is killer) and I don't think you can go wrong food-wise. The meal won't blow you away, but it is very good and the drinks are outstanding. The entire staff was helpful and cheerful. I can't recommend Pinewood highly enough."

  • "The most creative and wonderful cocktails. Go Mondays for "New Orleans Laundry Night." The staff are the right mix of being upbeat + caring."

  • "The food and service were exemplary. One of the best restaurants we've been to in years..."

  • "I went to pinewood for a simple birthday dinner. They had historic decor with a modern vibe. The wait staff were extremely friendly and responsive. We order a few small plates and split an entree and all of the food was unique and very tasty. Pinewood is in downtown Decatur, right down the street from some other restaraunts that have hour long waits on the weekends and we thought it was just as good,if not better than the restaraunts with long waits. Would definetly recommend it!"

  • "Fantastic food. The appetizers we ordered were fantastic - all 4 of them. Tried many items from the menu - grit tots, mussels, brussel sprouts, beets, catfish & ratatouille for main plates, and the chocolate ganache torte for dessert. Not one disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and will be dining at the Pinewood again."

  • "My husband and I visited The Pinewood for our 2nd Anniversary dinner. We had been one other time (for brunch) but it was our first visit for dinner. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and immediately seated. The server, who was great by the way, wished us a Happy Anniversary and brought each of us a glass of champagne as a celebratory gift! When we ordered, we were a little saddened when we were told that they had sold out of the "New Orleans Laundry" menu items. We ordered 2 appetizers - the grit tots and the pork belly biscuit - and 2 entrees - my husband had fish with succotash and I ordered the chicken and waffles. We were not disappointed...everything was DELICIOUS!!!!! The Pinewood consistently has great food and great service."

  • "We have dined here several times. The cocktails are always great, but the kitchen gets better each time we return."

  • "The Pinewood does a lot of things pretty well but with stiff competition from Leon's and Kimball House, it's not quite up to par. The cocktails we ordered, (Goonies & stay gold pony boy), weren't very memorable, and we both switched to wine/beer. Our server was excellent, the pasta and catfish were good, but again not something that would stick out amongst other Decatur options."

  • "We found the food was good but the portions rather small. We were still hungry after leaving there. We also did not care for the high tables with stools. It is uncomfortable sitting on a stool with no back support for a long time especially eating dinner."

  • "My wife and I recently had dinner at The Pinewood for our 6 year anniversary. Neither of us are big drinkers, but the cocktails on the menu sounded very interesting and delicious so we both ordered one. Our server was great and helped us navigate the menu and gave his personal suggestions when asked. After drinks we ordered our meals which came out extremely fast. My wife ordered a small plate of mussels that ended up being enough for an entire meal, and I had the chicken and waffles which was amazing. The atmosphere was perfect. Not too casual for a special occasion, but certainly not too stuffy. The best part was after our meal, our server surprised us with two complimentary glasses of champagne since it was our anniversary! How awesome?"

  • "Inventive and creative cocktail menu Good focus on customer service with frequent water refills. Decent menu but it could use a couple more seafood options. I almost always get the catfish which is consistently fried to perfection and they change the sides with the season. Used to pair it with the scallop appetizer but it is no longer on the menu. Would love to see a shrimp dish or appetizer. Overall this place is sure to satisfy."

  • "Overall I had a pleasant experience and would come back if I wanted a nice dinner out. Starting with the good...The food was excellent. Try the "grit tots". They are excellent and easy with a small hint of jalapeño. The catfish was excellent. Criques: Really lacking on a wine list. The wine was good, but I would have enjoyed a little larger selection being a wine lover. Also, from experience is service industry--I actually work in restaurant management--the service was well "serviceable." We were never in need of anything, but I also wasnt really "wowed". I felt like the server didn't "read" our table very well and actually couldn't get her attention to break a 20--so I could have given her a higher tip as planned. Overall she was fine. "

  • "This was my first time dining at the Pinewood.. I follow pinewood on instagram and always see the bourbon specials/classes.. Months later I made my reservations. Great Service from the Hostess to Late, our service.. Grit Tots were unique and tasty."

  • "A welcome change to the madness that is brunch in ATL. "

  • "Pinewood has a simple, but quite creative menu, well balanced between starters and large plates. We often just dine from the starter menu. The bar also excels at creative offerings, and they have one of the best selections of higher end brands if you ever wondered what that whiskey "too expensive to buy the bottle" tastes like. Service is prompt, professional, and friendly. Can't go wrong with this spot."

  • "The short ribs were very very dry and hard. I suggested they not serve them. I really cannot believe they even attempted to bring them out to a customer. The other items were nothing special. Overall quite disappointed and will not go back."

  • "Unexpected food tastes. Every choose we made was very well prepared and very tasty. The drinks were well prepared, by a very knowledgeable mixologist. We shall return to this delightful find."

  • "This reservation was for my birthday, and that was my one request. . .a drink at the Pinewood. Atmosphere is great, food is astronomical, and staff is outta this world! As frugal as I am, I will spend the money for these delectable drinks at the Pinewood. "The Day that I Die" is still my favorite and what I ordered that evening. The hostess was great. She took the time to prep an outdoor table for us (unlocked it and set it up in her cute dress). The staff came by at appropriate times with excellent service for drinks, meals, and checks. Our plates were great!! Grit tots, AWESOME! Beet salad, blew my mind. Chicken and waffles, on my husband's top 2. . . and he orders that at every restaurant. Thanks PW for a great birthday celebration!"

  • "So I'm kinda a burger enthusiast. Their 'double' cheese burger beats our General Muir, Bocado, H&F, Bookhouse and is well worth the $14 price tag. Also, this one of a few places tin Atlanta hat does creole/cajun food right. Be sure to get the gumbo and/or jambalaya if you can catch it on their daily specials."

  • "Very interesting, imaginative cocktails, food well thought out and prepared. Noise levels very subdued, great for talking without having to yell. Will definitely return."

  • "In the former Cakes and Ale space, this was a great meal. Every dish we tried was excellent, drinks were interesting and fun, service was good, noise level not as loud as I expected. Interesting menu with small plate options or entrees."

  • "Amazing bar. Real artisan bartenders. When the bartender brought my rye flight over he took the time to provide me a history of the makers and the distilling process. Must try chicken and waffles."

  • "We did the Scoutmob deal for our 10th Anniversary dinner at The Pinewood Tippling Room. The service was laid back and the server was awesome - but I do have a bit of an issue about full, long beards on servers. The food was prepared absolutely perfectly, right down to the seasoning, which often lacks in even the best restaurants. We were impressed with the kitchen's handiwork. We had beet salad, oyster po' boy, beef ribs and pappardelle bolognese - which were all superb. We had Old Fashioneds and a Quadrophenia, both spot on. For dessert we had the chocolate ganache tart, which was amazing and the bartender paired an amaro cocktail with it, which was the perfect pair for the chocolate. It's pricey, but totally worth it!"

  • "Trendy restaurant with a limited menu but I guarantee that everything on the menu is outstanding. Has a very laid back, trendy atmosphere but I would highly recommend to anyone! Cannot go wrong with the steak or scallops!! AMAZING."

  • "Downtown Decatur is so full of great restaurants that it is hard for one to stand out outside of the square. Pinewood makes itself memorable with a phenomenal drink menu (the day that I die drink is incredible) and delicious southern dishes. I recommend the Brussels sprouts, catfish and beignets -"

  • "Don't like not being able to hear dinner companions so I'm lowering overall rating because of that. Cocktails are creative and tasty and each meal has been excellently prepared."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "We liked the livelyness of the place and the service was really good, but the food was just meh. For the kinds of prices they charge, we were expected to not get grisly short ribs. The accompanying elements was almost non-existent (2 brussel sprouts and perhaps a teaspoon of potato puree). We weren't looking for Cheesecake Factory portions mind you, but these were pretty small for entree portions. Also, Parking is really difficult at this location. They have their own parking but only about 3 spots as far as I could tell. Overall it was fun but a bit disappointing."

  • "I've been eager to try Pinewood, but must say I was disappointed. The food was good, but the service was a bit snotty. The cocktails are supposed to be a highlight. The waitress looked annoyed when I asked questions. She was utterly condescending when I asked if they could add cucumber to a gin drink--a very standard practice in mixology for years."

  • "Had a lovely evening with my lady at The Pinewood. We made a reservation online and ended up having to wait for a few minutes at the bar for a table, but we didn't mind a bit. The drink list was very creative and had something to make almost anyone happy. Due to the short wait, the bartender let us know that our drinks were on the house. This really shows that customer satisfaction is important at The Pinewood. Once we were seated we were greeted by a very friendly waiting staff. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and the staff made sure to inform her of all of the options that were vegetarian friendly. We couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of food. We will both definitely be visiting The Pinewood again!"

  • "The food was to die for - seriously some of the best I've had ever. My only complaint, and I can't believe this is an issue, but the food came out WAY TOO FAST. I was hoping for a 2 hour dinner with my boyfriend, and we had a full dinner in just over one hour. Our appetizer took literally 60 seconds from the time we ordered to when we started eating. Main course took about 3 minutes, and I had a steak. Dessert took the longest, at 4 minutes from the time we ordered. Pinewood, if you're reading this, SLOW DOWN. Your food is incredible, but I wouldn't go back if I wanted a relaxing experience."

  • "the cocktails are what they specialize in I guess but as a bartender I found them overpriced and not great. The food was good but not memorable so I wont be back. There are so many good places in the area that this just didnt do it for us. There were 6 of us and we were meeting up with others later, we called them and told us to meet us elsewhere and we just moved the party."

  • "We have eaten at The Pinewood 4 times. Every time has been a wonderful experience. The food is unbelievable. We have tried almost everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. The atmosphere is fun and trendy. The noise level used to be a little too loud, but it seems that they have placed some sound boards along the ceiling that have greatly helped absorb the noise. The drinks are fun, crafty, and delicious. I highly recommend trying out the Pinewood. You won't regret it!"

  • "Good food but not excellent. Had the pork 2 ways, the brussel sprouts, the hush puppies, and the fried cheese balls. My friends really enjoyed their cocktails. One thought her burger was amazing, the other thought her fried fish was underwhelming. The service was quite good. High top tables were great for a party of 4-6."

  • "This weekend, we visited The Pinewood for the first time. I had randomly selected the spot after reading positive reviews online, and I am so glad we chose to try something new. It was one of the most delicious meals I have ever had! Everything ordered at our table exceeded all expectations. I also ordered the Porch Punch from the bar, and I can honestly say that is the best drink I have ever had. The restaurant is hip, cozy, and lively. Overall, it was an exceptional experience, and I will definitely be back soon."
