The Pineapple Room by Alan WongQuality food in comfortable settingI returned to Hawaii after four years and one of the stand outs from my last trip was The Pineapple Room. Glad to know its still going on and it can be relied on for quality food, interesting presentations and reasonable pricing. Love this place. The signature Kalua Pig BLT is fabulous as is the Halo Halo dessert!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBest fish entree I've ever hadTry the Hawaiian style Butterfish - it was the best fish entrée I've ever had! Cooked to perfection, moist, very flavorful with Asian marinade/sauce. Accompaniments were perfect with it.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's Day MenuEnjoyed the various stations and sample tasting of the menu. We never had to look for someone -- they were there before we needed to look. We were celebrating a birthday and enjoyed a most delicious strawberry tiramisu. Great food, great service.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGood take on local foodThis is Alan Wong's smart, tasty, spruced up version of local food and it's very good, not great like his famous restaurant (which I haven't eaten at for a few years), but well conceived and well executed. I had two things -- the stir fried soy beans in chili, garlic and sesame oil which was delicious and had nicely charred pods -- and the day's special, two sliders, one a "traditional" hamburger accompanied by fries (very good) and a newfangled one made of pork and shrimp with a bit of Chinese sausage on top and taro chip on the side -- it was better and more original. I can imagine eating this food over and over.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMPineapple Room pleasuresThoroughly enjoyed the fritatta/soup/salad special! as always, the bread w/aioli spread is addicting! I hope they don't change their menu selections. I believe their menu is what brings repeat customers back to the restaurant. They expect to see their same favorites upon their return. I know we do.
I would recommend they change their dinner menu. Their selections are not as good as their lunch menu.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed breakfast for a change.Enjoyed breakfast for a change. The little touches of signing the menu with a Happy Birthday greeting to her was appreciated. The personalized complimentary desert was great and delicious!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA Good ChoiceThis was our first visit to the Pineapple Room, this is a casual restaurant inside Macy's in the Ala Moana Mall. The selection was small but all very good, some of our party had the three course tasting menu, I had the chicken and seafood, both were very good. We also had dinner at Alan Wong's Restaurant on King Street and although the flag-ship was more sophisticated, the Pineapple Room stood up to the same quality in terms of food and the ambiance was less crowded. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit while in Honolulu.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
