Diner Reviews
  • "They have wonderful Prime Rib & Steaks as well as excellent fish dishes. Their Salad Bar and soups are without equal in the area."

  • "My husband and I were on vacation and staying at a nearby hotel. We read reviews and expected a decent meal at a reasonable price and that is what we got. Our server, Cindy, was friendly and responsive to our needs."

  • "The Pewter Mug has great prime rib....lean and extremely tender. Our group ordered everything from an end cut to extremely rare, and all were pleased with their meals. The service was great....very friendly wait staff. Huge salad bar with everything imaginable on it including two soups. This is dining "old school" but nevertheless outstanding. Prices are reasonable and valet parking is complimentary. "

  • "The menu says this restaurant opened in 1970. The current decor takes you back to the 70's. Every time you drive by it is busy at the dinner hour. We went on a Monday night and good thing we had a reservation. The dining room was packed and so was the bar area. Over hearing a number of the patrons leaving and they knew the wait staff and the wait staff knew them, so lot's of regulars. We both had the Prime Rib and it was excellent. Service was good and friendly."

  • "I found the taste of the steak to be good. I was not impressed with the salad bar. The waitress was slow and didn't seem that bright. Two people in our party ordered the same size strip steak, but one was obviously much bigger than the other."

  • "Great food, great service--just what we look for in a restaurant!"
    Dined on 4/7/2014
  • "Very much enjoyed being seated in a the horseshoe booth, which enabled our party of six to talk with each person seated at the table and not just the person seated next to you."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "One of our guests did not get her sirloin steak rare, as requested. She was offered the prime rib which would take less time to prepare and it was to her liking."

  • "The selections at the soup and salad bar are fantastic!!!"

  • "It's hard to find a restaurant where the food does not upset my stomach after I eat. But this one saved the night! Not too salty, or loaded with MSG. I would have known, would never have made it through the movie that night. That's a big Beal for my husband and myself. The salad bar is great and the soup very tasty! Go give it a try!"

  • "Always great food and service!. Specialized in Prime Rib and steaks but also have wonderful fish dishes and they accept reservations on-line which I strongly recommend."

  • "This place is ok... nothing special. The food was good; so was the service. But the price.... you could get the same quality of food, quantity of food, and service elsewhere, cheaper. The salad bar was just that... lettuce and veggies. They did have a couple of soups... but again... nothing special. Didn't even go back for a second trip, as there was nothing else I wanted. The steak was seasond well, and cooked right. The sides were good... but wish there was more of them for the $$$. Small place... make sure make a reservation! Good place for special occasions."

  • "VERY rushed service. My party felt like we didn't have time to enjoy salad bar before food started conning out. New England clam chowder was burned...complained, but to no avail. Prime rib that night was exceptionally fatty...no one cared. As i said, this was my 3rd visit in a month. My 12 year old son is a light eater. Previously, he was welcomed to order of of the kids menu, this time server refused."

  • "My bill was almost $90 for the two of us, without ordering any drinks. We thought it was supposed to be a great steak place. We both ordered the prime rib because we order it every chance we get! Half of mine was fat and my daughters was so tough she could not even eat it! The salad bar was good, but when i go for steak, I want to be served my entire dinner, not serve myself. The shrimp cocktail was excellent! We made reservations, but when we entered the front door the place was chaotic! We checked in with the desk, but he skipped over us and seated people off the street! So disappointing!"

  • "OUTSTANDING Salad Bar--you don't see many of these any more. The soup and saoad bar is definitely enough for a meal. Main complaint about the Pewter Mug goes way back to their construction. It should have been built closer to the river with windows and a deck. The parking should all be in the front closest to 41. It's DARK inside."
    Dined on 3/28/2014
  • "Our party had ribs, roast chicken and salmon...everything was cooked perfectly, served hot and served promptly. our server and the wait staff did an excellent job. If you are looking for really good food, the Pewter Mug should be on your list. If you are into fine french cuisine, this probably isn't your place."

  • "Great meal and service. Dined at Pewter Mug twice this week. Prime rib- end cut to die for. Soup and salad bar very fresh and delicious. Thank you!"

  • "I am happy tp say that the restaurant was as fine as I remember from years ago. The soup was homemade, I think, and the bread was fresh and delicious. The prime rib was tasty and the pasta dishes were large enough for leftovers the next day. Dessert was ho hum, run of the mill. I would suggest a dessert platter with small portions for a variety... just a little something for the sweet tooth! It doesnt take much at the end of the meal. H ow about easy things like apple crisp or rice pudding, or even bread pudding with wiskey sauce!... Small dishes... easy to make and keep on hand.Or a babana split for that special dessert with a candle on top."

  • "The baked cod is awesome and their black angus steaks are awesome! We enjoy the soups & salad bar as well!"
    Dined on 3/20/2014
  • "Soups at salad bar were great, prime rib and fish & chips very good also. Salad bar good also, enjoyed total experience and will go back. Only minor issue is the whole restaurant seams to be tilting down on the river side as it is slowly sinking in, especially the table where we were seated. When we asked to be changed to another table it became a big issue needlessly and then finally we were moved to another table."

  • "My wife and I enjoy the casual simplicity of this restaurant the dining room is well lit and comfortable . I appreciate generous portions and easy ordering " the mug " has both. all entrees include the full salad bar and two soups. I've been eating here since 1984 and have had wedding receptions, birthdays and family gatherings here without any complaints. The beef here is incredible exclusively angus and prepared well, this evening my wife had blackened mahi over risotto " little spicy" she said, I ordered the pork chop which is a two rib 14oz serving sweet fruity jerk flavor with a brown sugar glaze we cleaned our plates."

  • "Food was very good (prime rib) but wife's was too rare. Ordered "medium". Did not want it "nuked" so she ate it but could have been much better. Service was slow to get us started too."

  • "We had a wonderful dining experence in the outdoor patio. The Prime Rib was outstanding (One of the best that I have had in a very Long time). The salad bar was also good with many items that you could turn into a wonderful meal all by itself, but don't do that, enjoy a wonderful meal."

  • "Three our of four meals were good....one, beef stroganoff, very poor...noodles not done and meat tasteless. Service was very good as was the salad bar. Also, was told to expect 100 points upon arrival. Just now noted that we did not receive them."

  • "The Pewter Mug has long been a favorite of and it didn't disappoint us on our recent visit with our son. We were seated promptly and offered drink choices right away. We then enjoyed the salad bar and the Manhattan clam chowder was excellent--and included with a very good salad array. Our waitress kept an unobtrusive eye on us such that our entrees arrived right when we were finishing the soup and salad. We really were pretty full after the delicious first two courses but the entrees spurred us on to further enjoyment. The duck was especially good--crispy on the outside, moist and juicy on the inside with a nice fruit sauce. Another very good dining experience which will be repeated in the near future."

  • "This was our second visit to the Pewter Mug for a special occasion. The salad bar was awesome and both the Prime Rib and Filet were the best we have tasted. If you are a beef lover, you can not go wrong. The service was friendly and although the restaurant was full is was not noisy and did not feel over crowded. An ideal venue for a quiet dinner. We will be back."

  • "You can make a reservation....we like their tables..if you have a group of 5 you don't end up with one on the end of a table for 4 because the tables are round. A really pet peeve of ours when you go out with 5 people. The food is good and consistent. Service is always good. Not a fancy place but a great place for a quick dinner at a reasonable price."

  • "The parking lot is always full and ratings are good so I decided to try this place. Granted, I had a late reservation for 8:00, so perhaps that is why my duck was dry and my plate presentation looked sparse. My husband's coconut shrimp looked nice, but he was not thrilled with the taste. The soup at the salad bar - between our group we had three different soups - and all said their soup was disappointing; flavorless. Salad looked fresh and was good. Our waitress was wonderful, very efficient, she impressed my husband who once worked in the restaurant industry. I didn't even try the desserts."

  • "We first came to the Pewter Mug back in the 70's. First time we had ever had baked sweet potatoes. Loved the décor at that time. We then understood why it was called Pewter mug. Dishes, etc were all pewter. When we returned 30 some years later, still love the food but there is no longer any evidence of pewter. Sad to see that. Otherwise everything else was wonderful. Waitress, food and loved the Key Lime pie."

  • "Great food is always served at the Pewter Mug. Our most recent visit included the prime rib, which was excellent as far as tenderness and flavor and done exactly as ordered. Always love the huge salad bar too. The décor is remindful of supper clubs of the past and could use some updating, but food is always great!"
