A word from The Penthouse Restaurant
THE PENTHOUSE at The Huntley Hotel, a breathtaking restaurant and ultra lounge, with beach cabanas, open skies, silver bars, and open flames. Famed designer Thomas Schoos (best known for his work on restaurants such as Koi and TAO New York/Las Vegas) has teamed up with executive chef Seth Greenburg, to manifest a new visual celebration of the senses. The Penthouse features a contemporary American Menu with bold global influences. Chef Greenburg who draws inspiration from the foods of France, Spain and beyond, presents a menu utilizing seasonal ingredients sourced from the Santa Monica farmers markets combined with unique ingredients from across the globe. This innovative menu includes dishes such as Crispy Duck Confit with Shaved Apple, Arugula and Black pepper Gastrique; Charred Octopus with Cannellini Beans and Spring onion Chimichurri; New Zealand Snapper with Potato Gnocchi and Steamed Clams; House Cured Charcuterie; Natural Premium Angus Beef.   • "There are many bartenders on duty and don't be surprised if a couple of them ask what you want. I think they stock them on duty as the night scene is loaded with customers. The menu is small so go on line before you go. Either eat a little before or plan on ordering some of the best skinny fries I have had. Steaks and chops are abundant on the plate, however. The staff is very attentive. Either they are actors or we raised by stewardesses back in the 60's when the plane service was so abundant."

  • "Had a really lovely birthday celebration at the Penthouse. Delish food, very attentive staff, without being overly so. I love the chef's attention to detail, and that they source local food. The tables in the booth areas are large, and can seat up to 7 people. Do make a request for a booth, you'll love it. One minor criticism: Not a lot of choices for vegetarians. Only one entree that fits. But add salads or an appetizer, and any 'veggies' will be pleased. The food here is top notch. "

  • "I dined here recently with my partner as we had been recommended this place by a friend. Upon arriving the greeting staff were not very atentive and made us just stand there for a few mins whilst they spoke amongst them self. We were then seated and again the staff were bit very atentive, we had to ask them for the wine list and also ask them if we could order etc; the only thing that would make me go back here is the food.... It was amazing! To be honest though I think the service ruined it for me and I don't think I would go back. They were rude and made us feel not good enough."

  • "This isn't a restaurant - it's a dining experience! The views are spectacular (try to go at sunset!). Their booths fit a party of six comfortably. It has a south beach feel to it with the open space and white booths. Loved it! It can get noisy so would recommend a table away from the bar area. Service was top notch. Food was very good, too. My friend had to send back his steak b/c it wasn't cooked properly but they were fast to replace his meal and make it right....without attitude! Looking forward to going back."

When it came time to for us to be seated they accommodated us staying in the same location for dinner. Service was well timed and friendly but not overly aggressive. Food recommendations were spot on. Dinner was fabulous but dessert was a true highlight. The Olive O cake was so light and refreshing. If we had known it was that good, we would have ordered two."

  • "I made reservations for my friends birthday. I asked in advance for one of the booths and instead, was given the smallest table, shoved into a corner. We waited 20 minutes for our first drinks and then were told that we had a two hour minimum, which included the 20 minutes we waited. we kept having to flag the waitress down for refills on our bottomless drinks. The corned beef was really dry, but the crab cakes and steak sandwich were AMAZING, and profiteroles were great as well."

  • "We went there for Sunday brunch after we had highly recommended it to our friends. The restaurant was way overbooked - people were eating at the waiting area instead of at tables or at the bar. Our reservation was at 12:15 p.m. We arrived at 12 p.m. and were not seated until after 1 p.m. after we complained 3 x's. We are regulars at this restaurant for brunch and were very disappointed. We were told by the manager that they would make a note that we want to be seated immediately next time. I didn't realize we had to request to be seated immediately even though we had a reservation. I have sent an email to the management at The Penthouse and have not heard back from them. I am hesitant to recommend this restaurant for Sunday Brunch again."

  • "Thought the restaurant had a 360 view of beach/city, but it does not (you're seated either looking at the beach or city). Tables are too close together and so many of them that it got very loud with everyone talking. You can even hear your neighbors conversations. When the hubby and I arrived, there were a couple of window seats available and even though I requested one in my reservation, because we arrived a bit late, we did not get one (again, there were quite a few avail). Service was extremely slow. We actually thought to leave at one point. When we asked for a beverage, it took maybe 20 mins to get it. My husband enjoyed his steak, but I did not enjoy my choice of entree at all."

  • "Beautiful restaurant at the top of the Huntley, overlooking Los Angeles. Staff couldn't have been nicer - we were meeting friends for a drink prior to a 7:45 reservation. Traffic was bad - we got to the restaurant at 7:15. No pressure at all - we ended up sitting down at 8:15 pm. And this was on a Saturday night, packed room, not a table open. You can't ask for more. Service at the table was equally good; food was most tasty, and the evening was perfect. Great place for a special night of all kinds. Only negative - it took a while to get the car from valet after dinner. They were busy moving around the Ferraris (!)."

Last weekend (Valentines Day) we had reservations to dinner and ended up having to bring a family member who got stuck in LA due to the weather in the South. Not only were the servers cold and somewhat uninviting the food was mediocre at best. Most likely will not come back and take our money (and company) elsewhere."

  • "We went to the Penthouse for my father's birthday dinner, and it did not disappoint. The bar area is lively, energetic, and loud, but once in the dining area it was much more moderate and great for a relaxed dining experience. We had a table by the window with incredible city and ocean views. Our waiter was fantastic, not too overbearing but there when we needed him. The food was also great! We started with a pizza to share-yummy thin crust, and all of us had steak for dinner. The steaks were slightly overcooked, but still really good. Also, the mac and cheese side is the best!"

  • "Food was ok, but it was far below my expectations with that price. Ordered Applewood Smoked Ham Flat Bread, Jidori Chicken Breast and bakery assortment of 3. The waiter did not give me a steak knife for the chicken breast until later. My boyfriend was pretty starved, but the waiter took his fork away when the flat bread arrived and left him with a freaking BUTTER KNIFE only. SO pretty much both of us were waiting on the right utensils for a good while till we could dive in our food. The waiters were really nice, which was expected if dining at a penthouse restaurant at a hotel. But I would not give this place a second chance. The view was amazing, but I could totally just view the pictures on yelp if that is the only pro."

  • "This is the second time we have eaten at The Penthouse. We like to go during the day to take advantage of the outstanding water and city views from the twenty-seventh floor. The clientele is diverse, which makes it feel like a sophisticated eatery anywhere in the world. It's one of the reasons we native Californians love L.A. The food is unique and well prepared. On Valentine's Day we shared a kale salad with cranberries, pecans, jicama, shaved parmesan, and four giant shrimp topped with a very spicy dressing. We also ordered the sirloin burger with cheddar and a side of perfectly cooked steak fries. Champagne accompanied the meal. Everything was festive and delicious!"
