Diner Reviews
  • "A very cozy and intimate experience. I felt like I was having high tea in someone's drawing room. Impeccable service. It's a great little hidden spot."

  • "Unique experience perfect for romantic occasions and celebrations like birthdays and anniversaries. This place takes you to a different era, we were impressed by the sandwiches, desserts and of course the tea itself. It's very quiet and cozy, and you will definitely make an impression on your date by taking them to this tea room for an authentic high tea experience. Location is great as well close to Central Park. We liked the look of this place better than Plaza Hotel High Tea - it felt more authentic, less touristy and the service was great too."

  • "There may be other great afternoon tea services in NYC, but there can't be a better tea waiter. So knowledgeable, so helpful, so efficient. The total experience is excellent, but the scones should be worthy of the accompaniments. The sandwiches are superb, while the sweets are good if not great (loved the mineature cannelés though). A pricey but delightful indulgence."

  • "Not worth the price. Much Much smaller, dark and stuffy than it appears in the pic. Good food, service, no noise and great location (very close to metropolitan museum) but that's it- nothing too special, not worth the money. I don't think I will go back. "

  • "A hidden gem, the Pembroke Room never disappoints a nice, leisurely visit for high tea. Unlike tea at the Plaza, it is never touristy or loud, which is a big plus in the city. It is rather quaint in size compared to grand hotels, but showcases exquisite classical decor from the lobby all the way up to the tea room. Servers are excellent, and customers are usually very respectful of the space (quiet noise level). "

  • "Very elegent surroundings and excellent food, the menu is limited but fine for picky eaters. The portions were just right, not huge and overwhelming and not the all two common "giant plate" with tiny food. The service was truly exceptional. "

  • "This restaurant only has a pre-theater limited menu ($54) but all was good. The chef clearly cooked to order and the service was impeccable. The room is beautiful. This is better known as a tea and brunch spot. "

  • "And old fashioned perfect service I love this place and that it is quiet and tucked out of the way but a real treasure"

  • "The personal service and care given to every customer was beyond belief ! The food was wonderful and one of the girls with our group had a 70th birthday and was given a beautiful box of Burdicks chocolates. This was a complete surprise to me and to my guest. "

  • "Went for Tea time--4 pm. It was absolutely charming and was perfect for a special occasion"

  • "A beautiful dining space, quiet, with attentive service. Food passable but not outstanding at brunch. Watch out for the price of the OJ. But if you want to be able to converse with friends in a calm, attractive environment, this is an excellent choice."

  • "One of the best tea services in town and definitely the best tea server, a knowledgable, attentive professional named Steve."

  • "This restaurant was gorgeous, but I felt that the service was lacking, albeit friendly. The tea and food were coldish when we were finally served. I came in with a large party, so perhaps they felt there was time to linger. The pricing was also inconsistent from what the website stated. I'm frankly disappointed with this experience, though I had a wonderful time with my party."

  • "Three friends celebrate our birthdays at Afternoon Tea, and the Lowell has become our favorite place for this event. Although the selection of teas is not as extensive as other places, the four familiar varieties will suit anyone's taste. An excellent array of tea sandwiches, followed by fresh warm scones (plain, cranberry, and blueberry), left us with barely enough appetite to sample each of the sweet pastries offered. Service is attentive and friendly, but not hovering; we enjoyed a leisurely afternoon of tea and conversation in the comfortable, elegantly furnished dining room at the Lowell."

  • "Best spot on the East side for High Tea. Price is good, great variety of sandwiches and pastries. The scones are warm when served. Lots of teas to choose from. With Sinatra playing in the background how can you go wrong"

  • "I found restaurant on a T&L list of great places for afternoon tea. We had a reservation, which was totally unnecessary as only one other table was occupied. Maybe part of the staffing issues were due to the horrible winter storm, but still we ended up in a nearly empty room with no server in sight for the majority of our meal. The saving grace were the teas and food. I would return again just for the loster and mango tea sandwiches but be prepared for long gaps in the service."

  • "The Pembroke Room was a delightful surprise. We felt as it we'd stepped back in time to the elegance of the 1920's. Charming room, very personable. Quiet, no outside noise. Food excellent, service excellent. Plan to go return."

  • "I visited the Pembroke Room with my girlfriends to celebrate my birthday. We are all British and were looking for a classic British tea in New York City which was affordable. Located inside a beautiful hotel, the tea room was lovely. The nice thing about it is that because they don't overbook the room, we dined for nearly 4 hours! The sandwiches were very flavorsome and the cakes plentiful and tea/coffee was unlimited throughout the meal. There were good breaks between the sandwiches, pastries/cakes and scones and overall the venue had a pleasant ambiance. If you're looking for something with a little grandeur but also a small, private atmosphere, I would definitely recommend The Pembroke Room."

  • "The Pembroke Room is exactly how a traditional Afternoon Tea should be. The ambience was classy and peaceful. The tea sandwiches were creative and tasty. And the service was absolutely impeccable."

  • "One of our favorite places for brunch, and afternoon tea. Absolutely lovely setting and ambiance. Had the complete English breakfast for brunch that was supurb and no request was denied. The ingrediants are top quality. It is such a relaxing experience that will take you back to another place and time."

  • "This is a great place to go for a quick meal with family, for pre-theater, for a romantic corner dinner. The staff is friendly, and one can carry on a conversation without screaming. However, not many tables."

  • "Absolutely fantastic. It was my daughter's birthday and decided to take her for high tea. The ambiance and the staff made this experience memorable. The room is gorgeous and feels intimate. This is the best place for high tea in NYC."

  • "Excellent breakfast. Excellent wait staff. Will definitely go back!"

  • "I absolutely adored afternoon tea at the Pembroke Room. The staff was wonderful. I cannot wait to go back, the setting was truly unique, and of course, delicious scones, sandwiches and macarons, among other treats, were the order of the day. The Lowell is now my "go to" for afternoon tea. Time seems to stop in the Pembroke Room, and while sipping tea there, one forgets all about the busy Manhattan that is our home."

  • "It is a nice place but so narrow! They also need to clean the dining room! So dusty! Not nice for this type of hotel Plus the tea service was more expensive that their website said! Their finger sandwiches were fine, but their sweets were too sweet especially their Napoleons. Not a cream just sugar! The scones have no flavor on their own luckyly the clotted cream and orange marmalade were exquisite! I would not go back"

  • "We enjoy the Pembroke room every year as a mother-daughter outing. The setting is lovely. The service superb."

  • "This small, cozy room is the perfect setting for an elegant if rather pricey afternoon tea. Finger sandwiches, pastries, and petits fours and macarons are all served together on a three-tiered platter, fresh scones with Devonshire cream are passed separately. In our view the sweets were better than the savories -- some of the tiny sandwich breads/toasts seemed a bit stale. Service was gracious and efficient, and we lingered for several hours over our tea without feeling rushed in the slightest."

  • "This is a beautiful room and a great atmosphere for a true "high tea" experience. Well presented, good variety. Also they were quite accommodating to those who just wanted a less complete menu choice."

  • "In the heart of the Upper East side, the Pembroke Room is a romantic oasis for a late afternoon tea. Following an online review as the most elegant afternoon tea, the Pembroke did not disappoint. The staff was solicitous yet respectful. From the luxurious tea sandwiches and macarons to the rich and well-balanced teas, the selections were delightful. As a finishing touch, the decor completed the experience. This is a must-visit for any afficionado of intimate dining or the perfect afternoon tea."

  • "I went with a couple of girlfriends for a Girl's Holiday day out. We had afternoon tea and the scones were fantastic. The ambiance was so quaint. What a lovely afternoon experience. The experience was lovely."

  • "The room is so spectacular that you can almost forgive the disappointment with the food. They just do not go the extra mile in the kitchen otherwise this would become my go-to place for weekend brunch in the neighborhood. Proper English breakfast is a great idea, but when you use bbq beans as opposed to tomato beans, you obviously have no clue about proper English breakfasts. Also, I would expect quality sausage, not a McDonalds like link on my plate. So much potential..."

  • "One of the best afternoon teas we've been to, tucked away in what seems to be a five-star bed and breakfast (The Lowell) on East 63rd street.. Beautiful dining room and food. Great service. Fun Lobby-The Concierge disappears behind a bookcase. Dining room is on the second floor. If you want an intimate setting, this is the place. They have also a pre-theatre prix-fixe, and lunch."

  • "The Pembroke Room at the Lowell is a favorite spot for Afternoon Tea, but this year we also decided to try them for Thanksgiving afternoon dinner. It was exceptional: just the right balance of food choices with sufficient portions not to feel hungry. It is truly a neighborhood gem and we will go back as often as possible."
