A word from The Pelican Club
The Pelican Club, offering a wide range of fabulous New Orleans dishes, consists of three dining rooms and a large bar fashioned from a handsome, 19th-century French Quarter townhouse, rising from the corner of Bienville Street and Exchange Place in the heart of the French Quarter. Owner, Richard Hughes, and his wife, Jean Stinnett-Hughes, transformed a neglected architectural gem into a welcoming restaurant decorated in a crisp blend of traditional and contemporary. Each room has its own ambiance, created with such diverse elements as burnished Louisiana cypress, contemporary paintings by New Orleans artists, antique prints, and the dramatic contrast of black-leather banquettes against cream-colored brick walls. Such an atmosphere is sure to make your meal feel like a truly New Orleans experience.

since it ihas been around so long we often forget about this consistent gem. The food is not nouvelle but well cooked excellent ingredients all presented in a great space in the historic french quarter of New Orleans. the staff is friendly and helpful. The wait staff is a little aloof but very attentive. Make sure you put this on your must dines for New Orleans. In a city of great food this one holds up.

Since it is off the main tourist streets in the Quarter, you have to know where to turn. One of our go to places for a nice meal. Mostly locals. We sat in the middle dining area. It would be a nicer experience if the tables had a bit more spacing, it feels a little claustrophobic and conversations get drowned out.

We haven't been to the Pelican Club for several years, usually go to old standards like Gallatoire's or Arnaud's. The food was absolutely delicious, every bit of it without being "new age" or whatever the current trend terms may be. Appetizers were excellent, entrees were perfect. Our waiter, Mike, was friendly and forthcoming with information. It was our 44th anniversary, and we enjoyed the experience. We like busy and active places, but the noise level is a concern. It is not conducive to easy conversation. I wouldn't choose the term "energetic'; instead, I would say a bit too noisy. But the quality of the food overcame the noise level. And parking was much easier than for other restaurants in the Quarter. Overall, it was excellent, and we will certainly return in the future.

First time eating at The Pelican Club . Luckily another well know New Orleans restaurant was booked and someone referred The Pelican Club. We had customers in town from the U.K. and all were in agreement that everything was excellent, 5 star plus rating, easy parking across the street. Already told friends, they need to go. Can't wait to go back!

We looked at reviews from Open Table before going, so we picked the Drum fish and the Flounder both were really good. The server was one of the best, he made the evening. The food was great (I have a hard time giving 5 on food). Next time I'm in New Orleans I will eat at The Pelican Club.

An outstanding dining experience (birthday celebration)! Loved the 4 course menu option. My husband and I had different menu choices and it seems you can't go wrong with any option. Hard to choose a favorite of the night but I loved the shrimp and crab cakes with the pineapple-jalapeño chutney and remoulade sauce. A perfect combination of flavors! My husband claims the shrimp, chicken and andouille sausage gumbo is one of the best he's ever had. And please make room for the bourbon pecan pie with ice cream - perfect birthday 'cake'! We mentioned to the server at the start of our meal that we were heading to a play and he/staff made sure our meal flowed effortlessly. Can't wait to go back!

This is a French Quarter gem. Very nice surroundings and although it is a little loud due to the marble floors it was a great experience. The food is as good and varied as any restaurant in the Quartr and the service was prompt and friendly. the wine list is extensive although they were out of one of our selections. This one is a winner!!

We found the Pelican Club to be just ok. The waiter was very friendly and the service was very good. The food was good but nothing that I thought was exceptional. The big downside to us was the noise level in the dining room was too much. High ceilings and hard wall and lots of tables make for a lot of reflected noise. My wife and I were looking for a quiet romantic dinner. Not here.

The food and drinks were excellent. Great wine selection. Our waiter was assigned a large table in another part of the restaurant (the bar area), we were in the first dining room. It was not possible for him to be attentive to our table as well as another party of 2 near us because proximity of the tables. He did his best, but, lack of attention caused our experience to be less than expected. Our waiter had no assistant we sat for 10 minutes before the waiter made his first visit to our table. Another 15 minutes before we were given anything to drink (water), he said bread was on the way, but did not come for another 10 minutes. Dinner for 2, reservation for 7pm. did not complete until 9pm. Not a great experience, but, food was excellent.

I went for the four course fixed course meal. Everything was delicious, but be warned, the course sizes are not small. I didn't eat most of the pasta (ate all the seafood, yum). In retrospect if I had known, I would have just done a salad and main course, but it was tasty.

Could have used more waiters. Ours was extremely busy and was always a little behind. Also a large group (10) was seated close to us and they had been drinking and were very loud. Another table, next to them ask to be moved. They were ask once to keep it down, but more should have been done. The food was wonderful and usually this place is a very nice place for dinning with someone special. Every time we come to New Orleans we enjoy coming to the Pelican Club. Might think twice the next time.

We've dined at Pelican Club several times in the past, and everything was stellar. This visit was a little disappointing. The server didn't really engage us, we seemed to be an afterthought or just a small fish in his big pond. The oyster appetizer was overcooked so the oysters were dried up and the cheese was hard. I had the drum with crabmeat, and it was okay. It just seemed like our food sat under the lights too long. We were pretty underwhelmed. Sorry.

Yet another New Orleans restaurant that emphasizes old standards rather than creative cookery. Food was competently prepared but lacked imagination. Portions were too large. This is our go to restaurant for business dinners in the quarter. Food is always above average. Never a problem with service, and usually it is not too loud. Lamb is our group's favorite, but the other night it was cooked just a bit too much. It was cooked right to medium, but should have been med rare. Not a big deal. We'll be back.

New Orleans restaurants might not be the easiest to eat in if you're lactose intolerant but the staff and the chef were more than willing to accommodate me. The delicious whole Maine lobster with jumbo shrimp and sea scallop was made without butter per my request. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the rack of lamb and coconut cream pie (although in the north we call it coconut custard pie). Thanks to all at The Pelican Club for a wonderful dining experience.

Enjoyed a delicious dinner at the Pelican Club while in NOLA on business. It may not have the cachet or name recognition of some other restaurants, but the food is superb, and not cliche Cajun/Creole. Some of the best baked oysters I've had anywhere, and I come from oyster central in the NW. Fish was nicely done, not oversauced. Very serviceable wine list. Stick with the dining room, better ambiance than in the bar area.

On a recent business trip to New Orleans, my colleagues and I decided at the last minute to go out for a nice dinner. With 6 people and booking at the last minute on a busy weekend, I was happy to get a reservation. We were really pleased with the reasonable winelist, the choice between a prix fixe menu and ala carte menu - there was something for everyone in our group and we loved the Pelican Club. Loved the scallops and artichoke appetizer and highly recommend the duck! Would definitely return!

One of my favorite restaurants in New Orleans. Has versions of traditonal new Orleans dishes that are different but excellent - the BBQ shrimp with linguini in a pot for example. The whole crispy flounder is a show-stopper. My first question is always -- DO YOU HAVE THE WHOLE CRISPY FLOUNDER TONIGHT? Great cocktails, different without being weird. A bit hard to find down a little pedestrian-only side street in the quarter. Don't walk directly from Canal to Exchange place but to go to bienville or conti and then to Exchange. Exchange between Canal and Iberville is a bit sketch. My google maps shows the restaurant here --wrong. also gate is sometimes closed to exchange pl from the canal street side. by the Michalopoulous gallery.

On the day we ate here, it was ranked #50 of the 50 best restaurants by Zagat (not a terribly credible list IMHO). There are a lot of great restaurants in NOLA and I'd say that Pelican Club deserves to be on that list & perhaps higher ranked. Both the seafood gumbo & corn/crab bisque were excellent. The daily fresh fish special (black drum) was well prepared - very light & delicious. Not over salted or buttered like many. The roasted potatoes had a kick that was surprising without being over-powering. The waiter recommended the whole crispy flounder. I made him bone it (he left a few small ones but warned us). It was an absolutely delicious Thai type preparation - sweet and spicy -- with shrimp and scallops. Bread pudding was disappointing.

This is not my first time dining at the Pelican Club, however this was my least impressive time dining with you all. The service was below par, and we were definitely being rushed out. When asked if we were ready to order, I said no I need a minute and he said ok you will be last. Bascially, you cannot have a minute you must order now. I understand we had a late reservation, but if you do not want to seat people that late do not take the reservation. The filet had absolutely no flavor to it and the sauce did not help. I also ordered it medium and it was extremely rare. The server then proceeded to forget the wine with the entree. This was a very sub par experience for me.

My first trip to New Orleans and I posted on Facebook a request for suggestions on things to do while I was in the French Quarter. Two of my friends recommended Pelican Club. It was definitely a good choice. Easy to get a reservation on Open Table but when I arrived and saw the bar, I opted to sit there as I was alone. I got very good service from a friendly bar tender. Had the whole flounder. It was delicious although a little tricky to eat with all the bones. The sauce was outstanding. Served with jasmine rice and very good green beans and asparagus. Friday and Saturday night here is an excellent pianist who plays in an Oscar Peterson style. I wished that some of the other bar patrons had been a bit quieter to hear him play better.
