Diner Reviews
  • "We ordered three different dishes for three people and shared bites of each. The flavors were incredible. The BEST panna cotta I have ever tasted. And the local wines recommendation was delicious."

  • "As always it was lovely being at the Peerless, but I thought the food was disappointing. My memory is that the food used to be better . I don't even know how to classify it. The best way to describe it would be "pub food", but the prices are not pub prices. At this point the food does not seem to match the atmosphere. I'm hoping it will change again."

  • "Our favorite restaurant in Ashland. The best food, service, ambience. Great small adult place for any occasion. Love it all. Local ingredients. Fabulous!! We make a reservation months ahead of our 2-3 times per year trips to Ashland from Bend. Did I say it's our favorite place?"

  • "This restaurant has become a favorite when we visit Ashland. Service is always gracious and warm. The food is beautifully presented and we enjoyed every bite! We really love Peerless!"

  • "Good food and small plates. Excellent service. Intimate space."

  • "Always a nice meal at Peerless, and this dinner was no exception."

  • "Always one of our favorites in Ashland. We were early for our reservation on a very busy night but they worked it out and seated us at our table anyway. We were fine if they didn't but they wanted to try and accommodate us and got us a table. The food was great but would liked to have seen one or two more fish specials. This is always a great place my wife and I like to go on a date. Great food, great bar, and romantic atmosphere."

  • "We happened to come upon this little gem while searching the internet and couldn't have been more satisfied. The restaurant was cozy, quiet for nice conversation, and the food was really delicious. We would highly recommend this to others. The only negative would be it is a little pricey for going on a regular basis. Maybe they should do a 'locals night' special. That said, we would definitely return when we were in town."

  • "Pricey and skimpy but good quality food with unusual flavors and for us a once a year event."

  • "Christmas Eve dinner was the occasion. Reservations were for two with hopes of one of the nice tables in the main seating area. Instead, we were placed way in the back between two large group tables. The ambiance was less than pleasing. Fortunately, the food was as expected, very good, and the service exceptional. The Peerless is one of our favorites in Ashland and we look forward to returning in the future."

  • "Arrived at 8 for our 8 PM Christmas Eve reservation. Left to wait 45 minutes, standing in the cold, tiny entrance - was not offered the option of waiting in the (almost empty) lounge, which we were unaware of as this was our first visit. Ambiance was lacking (cold, cramped, noisy) and food was mediocre to quite good (dessert) but oddly lacking in presentation. Wait service was very good. Very pricey for what we received. Disappointed and will not be returning."

  • "The duck salad was outstanding as was the beet salad. The lamb meatballs were good but the balsamic sauce overpowered it. One of the few restaurants open on Christmas Eve and it was crowded but the distance between tables made it almost quiet. A great place for a special occasion."

  • "We went to the Peerless Restaurant for Christmas Eve dinner. The food was very good. We had bacon wrapped dates and calamari as appetizers and Ham as main entre. Given it was Christmas I had hoped for a Christmas dinner besides the Ham (and they ran out of lamb by 7.30 pm). Our waiter was not very attentive. They had large groups and felt a bit overwhelmed. I would go back as the food made up for it."

  • "We were excited about trying this restaurant, and the ambiance was lovely. But the waiter brought the wrong meal to my friend altogether, and then informed us they didn't have the fish tacos he ordered that were on their specials menu. My yam dish was not completely cooked, and some of it was inedible. After all this, the waiter did not offer to comp anything, which really surprised us. So, we were really disappointed with the experience, it 'left a bad taste in our mouths' so to speak! We won't be returning to dine there. one positive: I did like the Dr. Loosen Riesling."

  • "It doesn't get any better than this. Great wine. Great food. Great service. A wonderful restaurant."

  • "After a revamp, Peerless is now more informal and still offers high quality food in tapas size portions and at reasonable prices. A few full-size dishes are always on the menu with a seasonal twist. The preparation and presentation are always top notch. The smaller dining rooms make for a cozy and intimate atmosphere. The wine list is impressive but not overwhelming. Many Rogue and Applegate wines are featured. Service is all you can wish for: friendly, efficient and quick. What a gem!"

  • "Good service, not intrusive, but attentive. Noticed we didn't eat our deserts and asked about it. Deducted from bill. Nicely done."

  • "We loved everything about our experience except the food. The food was very hit or miss. The chicken marsala was dry, however the burger was amazing. The cheese/broccolini soup was outstanding, and the white salmon was very good. The creme brulee was cold and should have been at least room temperature. For the price of the food I wouldn't return unless it was for happy hour."

  • "Drove I-5 from LA to Bellingham. Peerless wad only bad meal Pasta sauce had strange flavor and red velvet cake was without flavor."

  • "Peerless is consistently a wonderful dining experience. The owner and staff are so pleasant and the food is great!"

  • "I had the Salmon and Lobster which was tasty and succulent. What really stole the show was the Chicken Marsala that my wife ordered. It was as luxurious as duck confit and just absolutely delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about it."

  • "This was my 3rd visit--each has been outstanding. Fabulous food--we all loved everything we ordered. Great service and ambiance. My favorite restaurant in Ashland! Best martinis!!!"

  • "This was our second visit to Peerless. Ashland has lots of options, but Peerless is great when you want something a little special. Extensive wine list with a variety of price points. Servers are attentive. The first question is whether or not you are going to a play, and they pace your meal accordingly. We'll go back again on our next visit to Ashland."

  • "The Peerless used be one of the highlights of our yearly visits to the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Alas, it will no longer be on our go to list. The food was tasteless, the service slightly pushy, and the wines highly overpriced."

  • "This is a great spot for a romantic meal with a loved one or a special night out with good friends. Great food, atmosphere and attentive knowledgeable waitstaff."

  • "We were there to celebrate a birthday and the food and ambience was excellent. The server was on top of everything and split our check (something single women appreciate). She deserves praise."

  • "Great place to share small plates for a meal with varied experiences. Service is always attentive without being overbearing."

  • "Every time we visit Ashland, dinner at The Peerless is a MUST! We especially enjoying dining outside, when the weather allows."

  • "Although we had hoped to dine in the lovely outdoor eating area, it was too hot to eat outside. But we enjoyed well prepared meals choosing small plates for interesting variety. One diner was disappointed in the "sampler" plate which was uninspired and not especially good. Scallops, rack of lamb, and spinach salads were excellent."

  • "We've gone to the Peerless and had many memorable meals in the past. This year the experience would be best described as mediocore. The staff were disinterested; the food not really good...nothing special. A real disappoinment."
