A word from The Peerless Restaurant
Located in the heart of Ashland’s Historic Railroad & Gallery District, The Peerless is a lively neighborhood restaurant, wine and cocktail bar, just a garden apart from our historic boutique hotel THE PEERLESS HOTEL.

Our dinner menu features an array of small plates, as well as steaks, and seafood that capture the flavors of the seasons and essence of the Pacific Northwest. Our amazing executive Chef Ketner previously worked as Executive Chef of the highly acclaimed “Hilo Bay Café” on the Big Island of Hawaii, where for over 10 years he helped bring traditional Hawaiian cuisine and Pacific Rim fusion to new heights, earning it the “Hale ‘Aina Award” for “Best Big Island Restaurant” four times. Ketner has also generated national media attention in magazines such as Food and Wine, Gourmet, and Sunset Magazine and is included in the 2013 edition of Best Chefs America.

Cheers,

We were in Ashland for a couple of days, and asked a resident which restaurants he prefers. He suggested a couple, and we chose the Peerless. It was easy to make a reservation, there were no long waits as some of the reviews stated, the staff were friendly and helpful, even to the point of bringing us a play brochure so we could read up on the evening's play.

We have been eating at the Peerless for a few years. Twice a year when we attend the plays at OSF. It is are one nice meal that we eat when not attending an evening play. It is a welcome part of our over-all Ashland experience. They always have a nice selection of small plates and entrees as the mood strikes us. The Rack of Lamb was very well prepared, even the brussel sprouts were good.

We have typically limited ourselves to restaurants in the Main Street area when attending the Shakespeare Festival but decided to try The Peerless Restaurant after finding it on OpenTable. So glad we did! We had a great dinner - delicious food and attentive service. Highly recommend that you venture down 4th Street and check it out!

We have eaten dinner at The Peerless 4-5 times and have always had excellent food and service. It is a lovely spot! We can't say much about the new chef yet--our food was very good, but we only sampled two items plus salads. Substantial wine list!

What a fabulous restaurant! The food was very good, well prepared, and well presented. They have a new Chef, and he is great! Small Plates, but the tastes are perfect. The bread was also top notch, which seems to be hard to find in Ashland. We ate outside in a quaint courtyard. We will be coming here again soon.

Great fine dining in casual atmosphere. Our first time here, definitely will be back next visit to Ashland. Outdoor dining on the patio a plus. Great menu with regular and small plate offerings for sharing. 4 of us, each tried something different. Food was well prepared, nice portion sizes, very tasty. Service was great, server there when needed, not hovering. Wish we had eaten here our first night in town, definitely would have eaten multiple nights. Only irritant, eating outdoors, you may have to deal with flies who would like to partake of the fine dining also.

We really wanted to like this restaurant. It was recommended by a friend as well as by an online travel site. Boy were we disappointed! Basically the food was terrible & was cold to boot. We ordered the sampler platter, which included pizza, poke tuna & small hamburgers. We also ordered soup & lamb meatballs. The burgers & the meatballs were cold, despite our sending the meatballs back to have them warmed up. The soup was overly spicy and the pizza was just plain bad. It had a sweet-ish dough with little bits of cabbage & an unidentifiable sauce. The tuna was good, though. Where is the new chef on a weekend night? And the owner? I wish we had listened to the negative reviews. A note from the owner won't make up for a lousy dinner.

We have been fans of The Peerless for years, and until now, have never been disappointed. We chose to dine here for our anniversary for that reason. The food was not up to the Peerless' standards, perhaps the result of a change in chefs. The wait times between courses was very long. Our waiter was great, and looked professional, but some of the staff looked disheveled.

The Peerless has been a favorite of ours for years. Whenever we're in Ashland we make sure to have dinner here. The new chef, Joshua Ketner, has taken The Peerless to a new level. My husband had Thai stuffed chicken thighs and enjoyed them so much he ordered a seconds! My daughter's lamb meatballs were juicy and flavorful. My watermelon and arugula salad was light and refreshing, perfect for the summer heat. The service was impeccable. We were seated quickly. Wait staff didn't hover, yet magically appeared when needed. We never felt rushed but the staff ensured we left in time to walk to the theater. We sat inside which has a modern edge. We've also dined outside and the garden/patio setting is beautiful. Can't wait to go back!

We so enjoyed our dinner at The Peerless. They accommodated our desire to be seated outside and even offered to adjust the umbrella to keep the sun out of one of our parties eyes. The food choices were interesting and prepared well. The French Onion soup was outstanding! A very nice evening. We didn't go back towards the bar but I would like to another time. Plus, we loved the small plates.

We dine one evening at the Peerless when we come to Ashland each year and it's lovely to sit in the garden with its strings of lights and gentle fountain on a summer evening. My husband was very happy with the halibut, and the strawberry rhubarb pie was yummy. The servers are cordial and helpful and it's always a relaxing, enjoyable time. We have also eaten there pre-theatre and that works too - the staff are prepared for both.

There's a new chef from Hawaii, and the food hasn't come together. The crab cakes were mushy and nob crab-full (too much filler); the ono was slightly overcooked and the sauce didn't quite go; and the dessert with mascarpone instead of whipped cream was cloying. Staff was a bit too much in your face.

We all gathered before our play on Saturday evening. We had an early reservation. By the time our waitress took our order, the special fish had sold out. The waitress justified the news by telling us that she had to tell 2 additional tables that they had run out of the item. Later, an incorrect item was brought to the table, but our other diner did not make a fuss. We traditionally dine at this restaurant 3-4 times a season, when we come up to attend plays. The rest of our meal was tasty. We will be back for another visit.
