This place is always reliable on the food side. This particular time we got friendly and sometimes prompt service, othertimes there was a long lag between being checked on. Bread didn't come until the appetizers, water jug remained empty at times, and when we wanted extra sauce for a slightly dry steak it was a good 5-7 minute waiter wait. On the other hand, the appetizers were very nice, soup was tasty, lamb outstanding and their pear tart delicious. It's a good place and we will return, but it's not cheap and at the prices the service should be a little more attentive.

We had a very nice dinner at the Peasant and the Pear. We had the pear quesadilla for appetizer, which was good and my son ordered the caprese salad which was outstanding. For dinner I had the scallops. They were great! My son and husband got the pork and beans and found it a little too fatty.

Had a most wonderful dinner recently for my husband's birthday. Our waiter Edgar was outstanding and took great care of us. There is a reason why this restaurant does so well. The menu is varied and offers many different dishes such as the Bone Marrow which was outstanding. I don't believe any of us left a morsel. Whether you pizza and a salad, Lamb Shanks or Fish you can't go wrong.

The pear quesadilla was superb. The Rodzilla Burger was very good. The fries were excellent. The mixed drinks were good. However, the soup was a weird tasting thing, salads not that fresh ( the Waldorf chicken was REAL dry), the Tuscan was unseasoned and dry, and the Cubana? The slab of pork loin (NOT pulled pork)was a too thick, overcooked and unseasoned pork...not like any Cubana I've ever had (I will say the mustard helped cover up the lack of flavor of the rest of it). All in all, for the reputation and the price ($175.00 for lunch for 5 people) we were all quite disappointnent. Rodney needs to do some Quality Control..

What a charming place it is, tucked away from the street, with an inviting outdoor courtyard for dining. I also was charmed by the way the restaurant incorporated pears into many of their dishes, according to the menu. However, the flatbread roast-pear pizza I ordered came swimming in gobs of cheese. The fact that it was good cheese didn't make up for the fact that there was way too much of it. And my friend's Cubana sandwich had a similar overload problem--way too much yellow mustard, which she spent half the lunch scraping away. It seems this could have been solved by leaving the mustard on the side--do Cubana sandwiches really call for yellow mustard? The food needs work, but I'd be willing to try again.

My first meal at The Peasant & the Pear has ensured I'll be a return customer. We were seated outside at a small table (too small really, but the server kept up with clearing away unnecessary plates and glasses so it was functional). We started with the fondue, which was excellent. My bistro steak was nicely medium rare, but the fries were a bit boring. The pork chop was amazing with the citrus gastrique and grilled peach! We finished with the peach cobbler which was perfect. Even though we were the very back table in the outside seating area, our server checked on us frequently.

The decor and layout were nicely done and inviting, lunch menu was diverse and interesting. But I settled for their Rodzilla burger - impressive looking, but the meat was ground too finely, came overcooked, bacon and onion rings heaped on sounded good but gave me a grease attack. My companion ordered the same thing - her patty was half overcooked and half pink??? Wines by the glass were less than impressive and needs to be beefed up. The only good thing was the service - professional. Maybe I need to try dinner - or maybe not!

Never could order anything else but the wonderful paella I used to get here. Tonight, Aug 10, however, was a major disappointment. Dried but not crispy on bottom as usual, no saffron taste, mostly rice. Texture was like it was made en masse in a large pot then scooped into a cast iron serving dish without putting it in the oven to crisp up. Ugh.

Overall the employees were very nice, friendly and service was very good. The appetizer was quite tasty but the Ahi on the Nicouis salad was not pink / fresh.....it looked / tasted a bit old. The other dishes at our table looked very good but the Ahi salad was a disappointment. The Ahi portion was also very small.

We have eaten three times now and the food is always good, the pasta dish is especailly excellent, cooked perfectly every time! The only negative thing is we have sat outside twice now at the same table and the service there has been slow. Almost like you get a bit forgotton out there. The waiter for this table has tables inside and I think that with the door shut this outside table tends to be out of sight out of mind! Other than that it's great!

After reading many good reviews, we were excited to dine here with friends who just moved to the East Bay. Very nice hostess greeted us and we were seated while waiting for our friends to arrive. It wasn't super busy but as the evening progressed, our waitress was MIA. It appeared that she had too many tables to take care of. The food was just ok -nothing stood out and then with the service, I found myself waiting for the night to be over. Water wasn't refilled, plates weren't cleared timely and we were never asked if we needed anything else. Even the bread seemed old and dry. Would I give them another chance - probably not.

We've eaten here several times and enjoyed it. However, this time, we felt very rushed through our meal. We had just received our salads when the main courses were brought. There was no apology, nor even an offer to move the salads out of the way. The server just stood there holding the entrees waiting for us to make room on the table. Very disappointing.

My intentions to come here was to catch up with an old friend. The tips I would give to this restaurant is to be more attentive to refilling ice tea as mine was dry and to cut up the chicken on my salad. Instead of a whole grilled piece of chicken breast, it would've been nice to have it sliced before hand.

This was my first experience at having brunch at the Peasant and the Pear. We noticed that other patrons who arrived after us were served before we were. Our food was finally served and it was cold. The service left much to be desired from not refilling drinks to disappearing after the food was delivered. We had no one to complain to so we ate cold egg dishes. From my point of view the waitress obviously knew she forgot to deliver our food in a timely manner, instead of reheating she did a "dump and run." When she finally came back to offer a dessert menu we made her aware of the situation; her response was ... sorry about that. By the way, the restaurant was not even half full. Will I go back to the Peasant and the Pear for brunch - never!

At the top among some very amazing food here in Danville. We are very fortunate to have a chose of 5 of the best restaurants anywhere and I put Peasant and the Pear in that category. Perfectly medium rare Scottish salmon on a bed of quinoa that had squash seeds, yummy peppers that I could not identify that had the right amount of tiny kick and huge flavor. Plus a roasted squash blossom on the side. My husband had the scallops which he loved. We nearly licked our plates. He ended with a hot fudge sundae that had sublime chocolate caramel sauce and rich ice cream.

We've enjoyed dinner at The Peasant and the Pear many times, both indoors and out. The food has never disappointed, and this particular evening was no exception - we all enjoyed our meals. The service, on the other hand, was less than satisfactory. The server was personable but apparently scatter-brained. We waited a long time for the salad, which we were going to share. Instead she brought the entrees - but they were incorrect. As she was taking them away I told her to forget the salad but then she brought it anyway. And she never brought the sauce for the meat which she had personally recommended to me to be served on the side. Not what we've come to expect at this restaurant. I hope she was just having a bad night.

We had a enjoyable dinner here. Nice balance of food quality, good service, and ambiance. We thought the food was good, but not exceptional. Food quality needs to be just a bit higher to get 4 stars. The scallops were bay scallops, not the larger sized scallops that I prefer. My wife had the lamb shank, which she enjoyed. Very tender and flavorful. The calamari and pear quesadilla appetizers were just average, although the quesadilla would have been much better with more pear slices in it. Service was very good and we especially enjoyed the fact that the restaurant was on the quieter side, so that we could easily talk without raising our voices. I would recommend that place to friends and we will probably come back again.
