A word from The Peasant & The Pear
Discover downtown Danville's hidden gem! The Peasant & The Pear, located along a brick pathway behind the Danville Clock Tower, owes its name to its rustic California & Mediterranean cuisine, and to its location in the agricultural region that once housed the world's largest pear orchard.

Executive Chef and owner Rodney Worth, voted "Best Chef 2008" by the readers of Diablo magazine, honors the area's history by offering delicious, unpretentious, seasonal menus that showcase the very freshest ingredients available.

Whether dining in the warm, Tuscan-style dining room, outside on the large private courtyard, or at the antique Parisian bar, you'll be wowed by the fabulous food, the great selection of wine & spirits, and the staff's friendly, knowledgeable service, all offered at an incredible value.

When we arrived, the hostess tried to seat us indoors, so I said that my OpenTable reservation included a request to sit outside. Her response was that sometimes "those notes don't get read." After a few minutes, we were sat outside. Our Pear Martinis took 20 minutes. We had to interject our dinner requests before she scurried away to other responsibilities. The medium-rare steaks we ordered were medium to medium-well. No one ever asked us about how they were. Most of our needs were met by other waitstaff as they, too, scurried around hurriedly and without much time for pleasantries. Once we asked where she was, and the response was, "she got busy." Guess we were an imposition.

I have heard about this restaurant from friends and finally got there myself with a group of six. We all enjoyed out lunch. The special this day was Peasant Pie and it was rated excellent by the four who ordered this entree. Sandwiches are huge, box to go for half except big eaters. Also the drinks are excellent and martini is not a small glass nor only half filled. Great place.

My wife and I were given a gift card to use for the Peasant and the Pear. We had no expectations, but after dining there were both impressed with our meals. I had a filet and my wife had the NY steak. Both were cooked perfectly as we requested. My filet came with sautéed mushrooms, and an au gratin potato stuffed with blue cheese. It was fantastic. We finished with a chocolate decadent cake that was rich and went phenomenal with our wine that we brought ($15 corkage fee). The only suggestion is that the parking is actually not on the frontage road that MapQuest drives you to but actually on the other side of the building.

We had a great dinner on Sunday evening and our waiter was moving at top speed. At first he seemed to be singly waiting on all the tables, but then others came on the scene as the restaurant got surprisingly busier for a Sunday evening. The food was hot and very well prepared just the way it was requested. The atmosphere was very nice and the noise level allowed us to have a pleasant conversation over our lovely meal. Thank you. Had to ask for a coffee refill with dessert.

The Peasant and the Pear is one of our favorites. Unfortunately, last visit the service was really off. This recent visit (Sunday Lunch) service was OK, but food presentation was really off. Croque Madame - a classic - came swimming in Bechamel (the sunny side up egg could barely hold on) and the egg was not cooked properly. Bread edges burnt. Enough fries to feed four people. C'mon Rodney - perhaps it's time to refocus on the kitchen basics. We love this restaurant and always take friends from out of town here as our go-to show off Danville restaurants place. These last two visits are making it difficult to continue cheerleading for our favorite Danville restaurant.

Attendee Danvilles d'Elegance car show and headed to The Peasant and the Pear for lunch with my Dad, Wife, Grandmother, two year old and newborn. The staff did their best to support the flow of people but were clearly understaffed. To accommodate they discounted our meal and were very apologetic. It was good to see them notice and care but lesson learned please - during events have more staff

I went out with 3 other girl friends for dinner and everything as delicious. You have to have the peartini! Warning: we were in the middle of visiting after dinner when the hostess came over to ask us if we could move to the bar because we had been there 2 hours and they had another reservation. The bar was full with no seats other than along a pathway between the bar and door that were in a row so couldn't talk to each other easily. We left with a bad impression because we felt that the least they could have done was either give us a 30-minute warning they would need the table or kick us from our table and offer a glass of wine/champagne in the bar area (standing). Instead, we went somewhere else to spend more money and visit.

Had an awesome lunch on Tuesday afternoon, taking my mother out for my parent's 36th anniversary. My mother had the Prime Rib French Dip (always slamming good) and I had the Baja Salad which was on a bed of spinach with Brentwood white corn, cherry tomatoes, avocado, with grilled Mexican white prawns , and lime vinaigrette. Of course, we had to start with the Pear Quesadilla. It was absolutely delicious (as always)!! Kudos to Rodney for the incredible food and thank you Kelsey for the great service. Her timing was impeccable, letting my mother and I talk and slowly enjoy lunch. We had a wonderful afternoon, thanks again P&P!

This spot is on our rotation list for getting together for lunch. We are addicted to the Bishop Ranch salad and the San Ramon flatbread. Pears and blue cheese - how can you go wrong! I did try the special flatbread last time we were in - peaches, goat cheese, and balsamic vinegar - it was fine, but I'll be going back to my favorite next time. I'm addicted!

This place is always reliable on the food side. This particular time we got friendly and sometimes prompt service, othertimes there was a long lag between being checked on. Bread didn't come until the appetizers, water jug remained empty at times, and when we wanted extra sauce for a slightly dry steak it was a good 5-7 minute waiter wait. On the other hand, the appetizers were very nice, soup was tasty, lamb outstanding and their pear tart delicious. It's a good place and we will return, but it's not cheap and at the prices the service should be a little more attentive.

Had a most wonderful dinner recently for my husband's birthday. Our waiter Edgar was outstanding and took great care of us. There is a reason why this restaurant does so well. The pear quesadilla was superb. The Rodzilla Burger was very good. The fries were excellent. The mixed drinks were good. However, the soup was a weird tasting thing, salads not that fresh ( the Waldorf chicken was REAL dry), the Tuscan was unseasoned and dry, and the Cubana? The slab of pork loin (NOT pulled pork)was a too thick, overcooked and unseasoned pork...not like any Cubana I've ever had (I will say the mustard helped cover up the lack of flavor of the rest of it). All in all, for the reputation and the price ($175.00 for lunch for 5 people) we were all quite disappointnent. Rodney needs to do some Quality Control..

What a charming place it is, tucked away from the street, with an inviting outdoor courtyard for dining. I also was charmed by the way the restaurant incorporated pears into many of their dishes, according to the menu. However, the flatbread roast-pear pizza I ordered came swimming in gobs of cheese. The fact that it was good cheese didn't make up for the fact that there was way too much of it. And my friend's Cubana sandwich had a similar overload problem--way too much yellow mustard, which she spent half the lunch scraping away. It seems this could have been solved by leaving the mustard on the side--do Cubana sandwiches really call for yellow mustard? The food needs work, but I'd be willing to try again.

My first meal at The Peasant & the Pear has ensured I'll be a return customer. We were seated outside at a small table (too small really, but the server kept up with clearing away unnecessary plates and glasses so it was functional). We started with the fondue, which was excellent. My bistro steak was nicely medium rare, but the fries were a bit boring. The pork chop was amazing with the citrus gastrique and grilled peach! We finished with the peach cobbler which was perfect. Even though we were the very back table in the outside seating area, our server checked on us frequently.

The decor and layout were nicely done and inviting, lunch menu was diverse and interesting. But I settled for their Rodzilla burger - impressive looking, but the meat was ground too finely, came overcooked, bacon and onion rings heaped on sounded good but gave me a grease attack. My companion ordered the same thing - her patty was half overcooked and half pink??? Wines by the glass were less than impressive and needs to be beefed up. The only good thing was the service - professional. Maybe I need to try dinner - or maybe not!

Never could order anything else but the wonderful paella I used to get here. Tonight, Aug 10, however, was a major disappointment. Dried but not crispy on bottom as usual, no saffron taste, mostly rice. Texture was like it was made en masse in a large pot then scooped into a cast iron serving dish without putting it in the oven to crisp up. Ugh.
