Diner Reviews
  • "food and service has deteriorated! This used to be a very good restaurant but, lately, it has been on a downward spiral."

  • "We always thoroughly enjoy the Peasant and often visit their other restaurants. But this visit 3 out of 4 dinners were superb!! LambShank=marvelous, Pizza=great BUT the Mediterranean pasta was terrible...so stuck together in a mound that it was almost impossible to get a fork into it to spiral in a spoon to eat. Finally just gave up and shared the pizza...it was very disappointing!!!"

  • "We had not been here for a few years but wanted to try again Friday night. The fondue, seared halibut special and pork/beans were all both creative and excellent tasting. The fresh corn with the. Halibut was to-die-for. This place is vastly improved over 3-4 years ago. Prices are also excellent. Very knowledgeable and caring waiter. We can't really say enough."

  • "At the top among some very amazing food here in Danville. We are very fortunate to have a chose of 5 of the best restaurants anywhere and I put Peasant and the Pear in that category. Perfectly medium rare Scottish salmon on a bed of quinoa that had squash seeds, yummy peppers that I could not identify that had the right amount of tiny kick and huge flavor. Plus a roasted squash blossom on the side. My husband had the scallops which he loved. We nearly licked our plates. He ended with a hot fudge sundae that had sublime chocolate caramel sauce and rich ice cream."

  • "Peasant & the Pear is my go-to place for great food and a good time....and P&P came through once again. Thank you for the friendly and attentive service. The special sea bass was excellent. The patio seating next to the fountain provided a perfect place to dine and catch up with family. Thanks!"

  • "I have been here a number of times, and it never fails to please. This time we were 4 college chums getting together for lunch; the others hadn't been there before. I insisted we all have the pear/Gorgonzola pizza first. Everyone loved it. I had the smoked chicken sandwich as recommended by the waitress, and it was fabulous. Everyone enjoyed what they had."

  • "Very nice for lunch. Wish the outdoor seating was more shaded. Want to try their sister restaurant in Alamo."

  • "We've enjoyed dinner at The Peasant and the Pear many times, both indoors and out. The food has never disappointed, and this particular evening was no exception - we all enjoyed our meals. The service, on the other hand, was less than satisfactory. The server was personable but apparently scatter-brained. We waited a long time for the salad, which we were going to share. Instead she brought the entrees - but they were incorrect. As she was taking them away I told her to forget the salad but then she brought it anyway. And she never brought the sauce for the meat which she had personally recommended to me to be served on the side. Not what we've come to expect at this restaurant. I hope she was just having a bad night."

  • "Eaten here many times over the years and find that it is not as GREAT as it once was. Not sure what the issue is...too many locations??"
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "We were looking for a reasonably good experience food and service-wise, and it just didn't happen. Food was okay but nothing special and there were long periods between service. We waited for each course for quite a while and the restaurant was not full. We will not be returning and cannot recommend it for the price."

  • "We had a enjoyable dinner here. Nice balance of food quality, good service, and ambiance. We thought the food was good, but not exceptional. Food quality needs to be just a bit higher to get 4 stars. The scallops were bay scallops, not the larger sized scallops that I prefer. My wife had the lamb shank, which she enjoyed. Very tender and flavorful. The calamari and pear quesadilla appetizers were just average, although the quesadilla would have been much better with more pear slices in it. Service was very good and we especially enjoyed the fact that the restaurant was on the quieter side, so that we could easily talk without raising our voices. I would recommend that place to friends and we will probably come back again."

  • "Besides being set at a small table with limited air flow in the restaurant, food was just Ok the last couple of times we were here. It's our go to special occasion place that everyone seems to have also discovered. It was noisy, crammed and crowded for a Tuesday night. Great for the restaurant but not for a quiet meal."

  • "We have been going to the Peasant and the Pear for years. Unfortunately the quality of the food is not the same anymore. We used to love eating there but the last two times the food has been mediocre. I used to love to have the lamb shank. We too our friends there and 3 of us ordered it. What a disappointment. Friday night, my husband and I had the scallops and salmon --both were average at best. there are other restaurnats in Danville that we can go to where the food is much better. Hope Rodney improves what is being served here. I am afraid with his 6 restaurants now that the food quaoilty is on a downward spiral without him being there on a regular basis."

  • "As always we found the Peasant and the Pear enjoyable. Unfortunately, food was a little dry on my portion only. Others in the party enjoyed what they ordered."

  • "Taking a client out to dinner can make for a great evening. We original booked the reservation for outside at 6pm...but the heat of the day was still with us and we switched upon arrival and asked for an inside table for 5. In the blink of an eye and roughly 4 minutes later, we were seated comfortable with a nice view to the patio courtyard....Pork and Beans was the special for the Sunday dinner menu....most others chose the salmon and we had one Bistro steak. A bottle of Russian River Hana Sauvignon Blanc and the meal was complete with peach cobble and chocolate decadence cake.....This is our favorite and though we have tried others...Rodney is always spot on with his menu and ingredients"

  • "My waldorf salad was ok. Nothing special at all. I had to show the bartender the recipe for a Side Car on my phone. Came out ok. Nothing special. Server forgot to bring my friend's wine. Just wasn't a very good lunch. I really wanted to like this place but I won't likely go back."

  • "On previous visits, I have enjoyed the Signature Chicken Salad enormously. Unfortunately, the other day was not one of these occasions. The chicken salad tasted weathered and was quite acid. It must have been an off day in the kitchen. I will return and order something else as the courtyard is pleasant for an afternoon lunch."

  • "My wife and I have loved this place since our first visit several years ago and this visit for our anniversary was very nice, but not up to hte standard we have come to expect from this outstanding eatery. As always, the food was wonderful. I had Paella de la Tierra and my wife had their signature Italian lamb shank with creamy polenta. No complaints at all with the entrees. The weakness was with the service. After eating we waited many minutes to be asked if we wanted to see the desert menu. She then had to go back to actually get them. Again, we sat for a long time waiting to order. I should also mention that the description of the cherry cobbler did not match the excellent cobbler. A minor detail. Still, a great meal."

  • "It seemed that our server had a lot to do and the space from one course to another took a loooong time. Though this place would not make it in SF, this restaurant is good for the area."

  • "It was a spontaneous decision to stop here on our return from a wonderful day in Yountville. We arrived just a 'bit to early' but we sat at the bar with a glass of wine while everyone scurried about getting ready for the evening dinner crowds. When ready, we were guided to our table and we made our meal selections. The bread is awesome with rosemary and salted crust. Don't eat too much of the bread and spoil your appetite. I ordered the double pork chop and it was awesome. Carefully trimmed back to the bone and presented with perfectly steamed spinach and creamy mashed potatoes. Very nice indeed. My wife had the Salmon and was not disappointed at all. Although, a 'wild' catch would have been more to her liking."

  • "We took some family and friends to lunch on our son's graduation day. The food was not as good as it usually is, and the place was surprisingly uncrowded. Service was slow and the server seemed distracted. It took a while to get water and receive appetizers. The hostess indicated that they would make note of the occasion, but there was no mention of it through the meal. Still a very nice place, but we may go to one of their other restaurants before we return to this one."

  • "very nice and great food. suggest the wait staff control the kitchen food prep more closely so food is not served before previous course is completed."

  • "Outstanding little gem with a consistently fantastic menu. Third time here, and even though we got stuck by the kitchen, the traffic was not to intrusive."

  • "Some places are unique for ONE thing. For me The Peasant & The Pear is unique for everything. The atmosphere, the staff, the close proximity to work and home, and of course the delicious food. I have never had a bad experience with any of the above at TP&TP. If you don't believe me you should go try and prove me wrong. But make sure you go with an open heart and an empty stomach."

  • "It started with a pleasant waiter. He saw that we were celebrating and got right into the spirit. Giving us just the right amount of space and attention at the same time.. We tried so many things on the menu like the grilled shrimp appetizer and the ahi tuna appetizer which were both yummy. Because we had just seen the movie The Chef we ordered a Cubano sandwich for the table and then ordered the grilled salmon, the prawn salad, and the amazing hamburger along with a flatbread pizza. All excellent. "

  • "Had dinner at the "Pear" a few nights ago. This was a holiday weekend but no problem getting a table. The place was nearly full by the time we arrived but our table was waiting for us. Two couples with lots to catch up on. We food was great (we expected that), the service impeccable, the noise level was perfect for active conversation, and we had a wonderful visit. "

  • "This spot is a gem for those looking for a reasonably priced, top-notch meal. The Osso-Bucco-style Lamb Shank is fall-off-the-bone tender, lick your chops delicious, and the Pork Chop is perfectly prepared."

  • "We took another 2 hour rive to meet relatives for a family dinner. The restaurant is worth the drive. Food is wonderful. Lamb shank was had by three of us and the pork chop is the best my husband has ever had, so he says. ( he is very picky) Danville is such a charming town and this restaurant fits in very nicely."

  • "Was celebrating my husband's birthday. Mentioned to the maître D and during reservation. Server was cold and didn't even take the time to go over the daily specials. When we were done with the meal, we were presented with the check. Forget about celebrating birthday. Server didn't even asked if we wanted dessert. Disappointing! "

  • "We rarely go to Danville but this restaurant may give us reason to go there more often. Good food, good service. "
    Dined on 5/16/2014
  • "I thought the restaurant experience was just "good". The service was timely and somewhat attentive. But the server was lacking in personality. Perhaps she is the quiet type a good quality but not for serving. We did not connect with her and part of the reason for going out is to interact with the people who are taking care of us. My wife had the lamb and it was not as good as in the past. Call me critical but when I am paying these prices I think I can get more out of going to Haps or a brewery in downtown San Ramon. We have eaten at the Peasant and the Pear several times and this just did not meet up with our standards."
