We enjoyed the bacon wrapped dates, spinach salad and dressed blue crab as appetizers. They were all perfectly sized and tasty. My wife had the pub burger and I had the chicken wings confit and they exceeded all expectations. I was left a bit flat by the punch offerings - have had much better offerings at a couple of NY "GastroPub" establishments. We had reservations at 7pm, we arrived at 6:45 and were not seated until 7:20! Although we were offered a high 4-top in the bar at 7pm, (our reservations were for 8 people - 5 people showed) we turned it down due to the lack of space in the bar area. In all, we had a good time, but not sure we would go back as a group. The pricing is very reasonable and the food is fresh. I have already recommended it to many people. It is a busy place (two hour wait on Tuesday night), so be sure to make reservations. I found it needed a little salt, but this wasn't a problem. The sticky bun it came with was also breast, as was a beet salad I ordered. The collard greens though were far too salty for my taste.
My wife had the fish and chips. Fish was good but the fries were not so great. They tasted a little burnt or as if they'd been fried in oil that needed changing.
The kids liked their burgers but weren't crazy about the fries either. Overall, the fried chicken is so wonderful that it's worth a visit, but not everything we tried hit the same home run.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall Great ExperienceMy husband and I found The Pearl while browsing through the restaurants on Open Table, looking for something new. When we arrived, we were seated immediately and I loved the atmosphere and "style" of the restaurant. At our table, there were mason jars for our water glasses! The menu was small, but you could tell that each dish was carefully selected. We ended up ordering the parmesan baked clams, the Ricotta Dumplings and the special, which was a Red Snapper. Every single dish was delicious and we would highly reccomend the food again and again. The only drawback would be the portion size vs. the price and even then it wasn't like I left hungry. The real treat for me was the staff. Restaurant employees create and maintain the energy of any dining establishment. From the second my party walked through the door at Pearl we felt welcomed. Service and product knowledge were both off the chart good which was important since we were ordering oysters and had limited knowledge regarding a couple of the varieties offered. After dining we stopped at the bar for a couple of extra beers and found the bar staff to be excellent as well. Our seating at a round high table was OK but not totally comfortable. The waitress was great. The menu was limited and the overall quality was just average. Great, eclectic mix of a menu that is definitely for foodies. On this visit I finally got around to trying the Fried Chicken. Served southern-style with four very manageable pieces with perfectly crispy, light, seasoned coating wrapped around juicy, tender meat. The greens were vinegary and authentic and the cinnamon sweet roll in the basket was the perfect butter-sugar delivery system in a soft, sweet dough.
Our server recommended a great IPA for me and the beer list alone is worth the trip -- paired with the dozen icy cold oysters and sauces it was a great way to start the meal. This is our third visit and the second for brunch. The bloody mary and smoked salmon is our favorites for brunch. Most the appetizers are very good. I had the grilled cheese sandwich with pear and I wasn't impressed. My son was disappointed in the heuvo rancheros. He thought they had a funky sweet taste. We hear the fried chicken is good and are looking forward to trying it next time. The Pearl has several varieties of east coast oysters as well as some from the west coast. My group of four had 2 dozen, along with drinks and appetizers. Everything we tried was delicious, fresh, and delivered by friendly servers--the manager was also great. Even though we arrived much earlier than our reservation time he sat us immediately. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves fresh seafood. That got mediocre review. Didn't appear to be fully cooked and the cinnamon roll side made for a strange combo. Atmosphere was loud, every energetic, very crowded. Tables close together. Seafood was good, both the char and salmon, but not outstanding.
Burgers are ground on site daily and were solid. For $15, they should be.
Many choices for oysters and I would recommend trying whichever style you like or might want to sample.
The apple pie with blackberries might be seasonal, but I recommend you try it the next time you stop in.
Excellent service.
Floors can be a bit on the slippery side, depending on what footwear you have on. Service was great! Our group ordered the shellfish tower and a couple of entrees to share. We enjoyed it all! The grilled cheese is unique and mouth-watering. The shellfish was fresh and tasty. I'm still thinking about those oysters days later! The energy was lively and patrons seemed to be enjoying themselves. I know we did. We had a great table in the front right by the windows. I can't remember our servers name but he was excellent. It took him a little while to come over initially but he did stop by and say he would be a couple minutes so that was okay. We ordered drinks and the deviled eggs, parmasan baked clams, and devil on horseback, all were fantastic but the eggs did have a lot of onions in them so if you aren't a fan I would steer clear of those. For dinner we ordered the grilled cheese, two of us picked the fried chicken, and my husband ordered the short ribs. We all really enjoyed our meals but the short rib was I think the clear winner.
