A word from The Pastaria
When Donna and Paul first met, they discovered that they shared a common heritage: food-loving Italian families and grandfathers who were chefs. The result of their partnership is a rich collection of authentic family recipes passed down through generations. Raised on Baked Mostaccioli with Aurora sauce, Devon developed a taste for gourmet cuisine at a young age. He trained formally at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone in Napa so that he can carry on the family tradition of working as a chef.Continued

My only complaint is that it is so small, and the place was packed, so it was a bit warm inside (and too cold to sit outside). It might be nice to see the place spruced up a bit."

  • "It was my second time at The Pastaria. We had a reservation and were seated right away. I had the special of the day: fettuccine with veal and mushrooms. The best mushroom creamy sauce I've ever had!! My husband had the puttanesca pasta, and loved as well. The pasta is very fresh and tasteful. Service was friendly and fast. I strongly recommend!"

  • "I've been impressed in the past with the sauces, hand made pastas and appetizers . the last two times I've been there something has changed. I brought a girl friend, she ordered the seafood pasta it was so salty we had to turn it back and she loves salt. My raviolis were great. Two months ago I brought a group of ten and not everyone had a great experience. Not all of the dishes were delicious. For once the noise level was low because we were only one of three other groups. No large groups. I used to rate this place a 5 star but now it's a 3. I felt as though the chef has changed, if not, the drive for perfection is gone. I will give it another try if they don't back to the wow I'll move on."

  • "This is my favorite Italian food outside of Italy. I drive an hour to enjoy their pasta vongole! I highly recommend The Pastaria. The only downside is it was so noisy Friday night that it was hard to carryon a conversation with four people in one of their boths."

  • "We've lived in Los Gatos for 12+ years and had never dined at The Pastaria until last Friday. It's tiny and always packed, so impossible to walk in. I never thought about it when I was making dinner reservations at one of the LG restaurants, until last week. I booked a Friday night reservation for my husband and college daughter home for spring break, and we had a fabulous meal and delightful evening. It's truly a neighborhood gem. A local pleasure that must be experienced by all Los Gatons. Pastas are fresh, creative and delicious. Yummy kale and fennel salad. Wine pours are very generous. Service attentive and friendly. Really a nice, cozy Italian evening. We'll definitely return many times!"

  • "We went to The Pastaria to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was our first time and I made this reservation based on other's reviews. The place was packed on a Tuesday! When we got there, our table was ready and waiting for us. Food was amazing. We ordered the Putanesca Fresh Pasta and the Butternut Squash Agnolotti. The server was super attentive. We had a great time and are coming back soon, for sure."

  • "Great food. Creative daily specials (always good.) Good portions sizes. Great bread. Friendly service. Kitchen is sometimes slow, but that's expected with a small restaurant. This place is small, so a call ahead is a must. Family run, with employees who are treated like family. Great place for a relaxing meal with out any pretense. My FAVORITE restaurant. Takeout is good, for when you must have their food, but can't get a table."

  • "We were seated 45 minutes after our reservation. Granted, we did have a party of 6, they did offer drinks while we were waiting and then comp'd an appetizer. But it looked like they completely miscalculated how quickly the tables would turn over and that was a long wait for a late dinner reservation of 8:15. The service was very good once we were seated. The appetizers were very good, but I would rate the meals fair to good. I had chicken parmesan. The chicken was a bit dry, the gravy reduced too much and not that flavorful and the fettucine a bit gummy. Two fellow diners, however, had the gnocchi and said it was good to very good."

  • "This place was recommended by a friend so I thought I would try it out. It's really small inside so I'm glad I took her advice and made reservations. We were seated right away. The hostess said they ran out menus but the place was not full. She managed to find one for the three of us. Although the place was not completely full the service was very slow. The waiter that finally made it to our table was very nice. We all ordered our food and it was just okay. I was little disappointed since I expected it to be outstanding. So, My overall experience was good but probably won't be back."

  • "The restaurant wasn't what we expected, given the reviews etc, we thought it would be more upscale but once we were greeted this did not deter us. The service was impeccable, friendly and personable. The food was beyond our expectations and we would definitely both eat here again and refer friends. We had the roasted artichoke appetizer, I had the fettuccini Alfredo and my boyfriend had the pasta prima Donna. Everything was delicious."

  • "We hadn't been to "the Pastaria" as we call it for months. It's just a great local spot. We came in at 5:15 -- the only reservation available for a Sunday night, and it was jam packed. It feels like a family run restaurant because it is. The "bus boy" was a family friend -- mom type in her '30s -- who had come in as a favor to the owner who was understaffed. Great food too! Spicy garlic bread is AMAZING."

  • "Our family loves this cozy, Italian restaurant. We just celebrated our son's 17th birthday there. It's always his first choice for dining out. If you like artichokes, you must try their Warm Artichoke Dip--it's amazing! The restaurant is small, so call ahead if you want to be seated right away. The service can be a bit slow, but the staff is always super friendly and the food is delicious!"

  • "The menu was very good - dined with a couple of friends who had (Chicken Parmagiana, Cheese Tortellini - I had the Tri-tip salad. Portions were large, 2 of us took part of our entree home. The Kale salad and the soup, a Tuscan vegetable was hearty. The wait staff were nice, friendly. The restaurant was very busy but everyone seemed to be well taken care of."

  • "Best Italian food made with a lot of heart. Family owned and operated in the heart of Los Gatos. Small but quaint. Quality dishes madewith full flavors that make you want to come back and try everything on the menu. You can't go wrong with anything you order but I have a tendancy to order the special of the day. I've been to this place several times and like to recommend to friends and family. This was a special occasion this visit, my 50th birthday and my dining choice of the night. Once again, The Pastaria was a great choice!"

  • "I am SO glad they came onto open table. We never would have known about this place. But, I'm almost reluctant to give a glowing review because the place is small...The Pastaria was fantastic. Service was great, wonderful choices for meals... GREAT choices for vegetarians... this restaurant is awesome. again, it is small, so plan for that... The Kale salad was delicious. I also had butternut ravioli. they were perfectly cooked and sauced. so tasty. Highly recommend this restaurant!"

  • "This place is delicious! They hand make all of their string pastas, and they are amazing! I highly recommend ordering the "BMAC" - they'll know what you're talking about. Great bread, fantastic salads, and amazing pastas and really great service. But be sure to make a reservation, the restaurant is very small and after about 6 PM, they are usually completely booked for the night."
