As a true New Yorker, I rarely dine at a hotel. The Helmsley was very pleasant and beautiful. The food was just adequate. Service was fine. Somehow, at 7:30pm they were out of bread. Not sure what that was about. Anyhow it is a beautiful environment

This restaurant was a short walk from our hotel so thought we'd try it out. It's a beautiful room with incredible views of Central Park, the carriages, etc. It was a quiet night for the restaurant...most people were in the bar watching the lighting of the tree in Rockefeller Center. Our dinners were quite good. The service was old school great...as was the menu. Check it out for a quiet, romantic evening.

Online, this appears to be an upscale yet comfortable place to dine. In person, it is very comfortable but not upscale. The service got off to a slow start, the menu was very limited and lacked imagination, and the furnishings are dated and somewhat worn. However, the Caesar salad and the short ribs were delicious. This is a good place to enjoy a slow paced meal with good friends.

This was an overpriced meal. When you go online to check the menu, there were several choices for breakfast. However, there wasn't a Sunday brunch menu. So, when we arrived, we were surprised that there was a different menu for brunch, and there weren't many "brunch" choices for the main course on the Sunday brunch menu. Only eggs benedict and french toast. Very disappointing.

With 2PM reservations we arrived to be told they CLOSE at 2pm and are welcome to sit at the bar. As a vegetarian, there was no veggie option for me. I was offered pasta with butter or tomato sauce. I was so let down by the incredibly boring choice. I assume this was my option due ot the fact that they were rushing us. Drinks my guest and I had were very tasty. The view was amazing! We had pre ordered dessert due to the prix fix menu but there were no waiters in sight for 30 minutes. When we found someone and asked for our dessert, they came out with a menu and said they would need to re-open our bill. We spent 5 minutes explaining that we had already ordered and already paid. We were offered something on the house which never came.

The Park Room is one of the greatest dining venues in Manhattan. Those huge windows overlooking Central Park. The wonderful wood veneers. The excellent service. The excellent food. The buffets they have are outstanding. Here is one of the great finds of New York City! A true delight of a restaurant.

The Big windows on the park and quiet of the room made this a very enjoyable experience. The $70 buffet was overpriced for the amount of food offered. The lamb was delicious and what was available was good but as a buffet it was very limited and the deserts lacked anything memorable and nothing chocolate in sight.

We picked the Park Room for brunch because of the view of the park - which is amazing - but it is not worth the price or sub-par food. The brunch buffet was $70 p/p (that was for Easter, it's normally $55), for a small selection of food. The lamb had no flavor - I've made tastier at home - I can't speak to the chicken or fish selection because they were out of it every time I went to try them. The cold bar (hummus, cheese, shrimp) tasted over-refrigerated. The "pastries" seemed like they were from the bakery section at Sam's Club. They charged about $25 each for the mimosas, and added an automatic 20% tip for our party of 4 -- yes, 20% tip for BUFFET service. Brunch for 4 (incl 4 mimosas, 1 coffee and 1 iced tea) = $460.

The staff was very unprofessional and rude. When we arrived there, first they turned us away, saying they were closed, we said we had reserveration and they seated us. They were very rude and impolite. The servers were fighting in the back of the room as we were eating and we could hear them fight. Then right before our meal was being served by one waiter, the other waiter came to our table and asked if we "mind" changing our seat becuase they were having a staff meeting and needed extra tables. Terrible service considering its location or any location. The food was good, but will never go back!! You would think managment would spend some time and money training thier staff to observe basic courtsey and professionalisim? Not he

As usual, I thoroughly enjoyed my dining experiences at The Park Room on December 22nd and 23rd, 2012. I never feel rushed there, and the waitstaff is very solicitous. The food is delicious, and they are very accomodating when I request a change in the menu. The atmosphere is lovely, with a wonderful view of Central Park. I requested a table by the window each time and was given one. I always look forward to dining there when I stay at The Helmsley Park Lane Hotel in New York City. Dr. A.

This confirms it for me- NEVER eat at a hotel restaurant, no matter how convenient it is for you to just go downstairs. This place was hugely disappointing. You would think that a restaurant in a hotel on Central Park South would be at least good, but this was not even close. The sea bass was was bland and a very small portion. Some of the chicken was in edible. Vegetables were poorly prepared. I ordered the Osso Bucco with risotto only to find that they weren't going to make the risotto tonight. Considering that this dish is featured in huge pictures on every floor on the hotel in posters telling you how great the restaurant is, this seems more like bait and switch! I've had better Caesar salads at macaroni grill!

This is a great place if you want a quiet (difficult to find in Manhattan) place without feeling rushed in any way. And the view of Central Park is fabulous. It took half an hour and two requests to get a menu and another half an hour for the food to arrive after we ordered. Our waiter never offered us dessert or coffee. It's a large room and we were all alone in our half of the room while the few other occupied tables were far away. I can't imagine why they keep the place open. We were dining with a friend staying at the hotel and she told us that she had experienced similar lack of service at breakfast.
