A word from The Palm Court
Tea has been a long tradition at the Drake Hotel. The Palm Court began serving Tea during the holiday season of 1982 and dignitaries the likes of the late Princess of Wales, Princess Diana, Hilary Clinton have sipped and supped here since. In 1958, Queen Elizabeth joined us for tea at the Drake.

The uniqueness of the beauty of the room centers around a gorgeous limestone fountain with a giant urn as its center motif dating 275 years old, this French bronze by designer David Williams. Most importantly, the ambiance of this afternoon affair is greatly enhanced by the live harp music performed Wednesday through Sunday by our musicians dressed in classical evening gown attire.

  • "The Palm Court for tea is always a pleasant experience. Great attention to details and the selection of sandwiches and sweets are tasty and plentiful. Also, love to listen to the harp that adds to the ambience."

  • "Service is excellent - the right combination of attentiveness without intrusion. Afternoon tea is presented beautifully and tastes delicious. The setting has much old-world charm. A fountain and a harpist complete the scene."

  • "I'll get to the point. This is one of the most beautiful places I've ever had a meal. We had 3o'clock tea on a Sunday so it was very crowded. The waitstaff was very efficient and friendly and the harpist was a great addition. The tea selection is excellent! I wish the food matched the rest of the experience. There were 3 savory bites per person. When I say bites, I mean bites. Then 3 sweet breads per person (scone, cake, macaroon) and three desserts. I had a sugar buzz when I left. I think there is an option to order more finger sandwiches but at $40 a person I felt taken advantage of. "

  • " I Go to high tea Often. My first issue withThe Palm Court is that they don't answer the phone. I called to make reservations and to explain my daughters peanut allergy. I called 7 days straight and left 2 messages but the call was never returned. When we arrived the waiter was very kind but told me (after checking with the kitchen) she could only have fruit and sandwiches, no sweets! I knew this was not correct because during our last trip we pre-arranged a peanut- free option. After much persisting on my part and demanding to speak to chef.....her peanut-free sweets arrived. This isThe Drake! I expect better. The tea service itself was fine. I have no complaints about the quality of the food and the staff is pleasant. "

  • "The Palm Court provides a nice atmosphere with harpist and comfortable seating for Afternoon Tea. The scones were wonderful and the tea selections were hard to choose from ... so many sounded so good. My husband and I with our 17 year old son enjoyed the music, the ambiance and the good tea."

  • "We went for tea for my mom's birthday with all the ladies in our family. We had a lovely experience. Great service, really good food. But the atmosphere is the star. There is nothing quite like the Palm Court."

  • "My daughter and I, both tea lovers, knew we wanted to have tea at The Drake during our Spring Break trip to Chicago. We weren't disappointed! The food was good, the tea choices were plentiful and the ambience was terrific! We went mid-week and although we had reservations, there were loads of empty tables and we were given our choice of where to sit. Our tea pots were never empty, as servers came around to add piping hot water all through our visit. We were offered and enjoyed seconds on the tea sandwiches. Afternoon Tea was rather pricey ($40 each, plus tax and tip), but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "Having experienced my first high tea in London last spring, I have wanted to recreate the wonderful experience here. The Drake was recommended and we were not disappointed. Loved the ambience of the room; the service was excellent; the offerings good. If I had to find something to address, it would be that it was very crowded. I am looking for a good reason to repeat our experience."

  • "Lovely venue for late afternoon high tea. We took our seven year old granddaughter who loved pouring from her own pot into a fancy china cup. She was surprised when the harpist struck up "Happy Birthday" and cake arrived with a candle for her special celebration. Very special!"

  • "My daughter and I so enjoyed our afternoon Tea! Harpist playing, delicious tea options. Fabulous sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, etc! We loved. Just like in London! Refills on sandwiches was an unexpected treat! A very special Occasion Treat! Hope to treat ourselves again sometime soon! Very memorable!"

  • "My sister and I took our little girls to afternoon tea at Palm Court in the Drake Hotel. They had the Princess Tea which offered kid-friendly tea sandwiches and desserts. We had so much fun with the girls- they thought they were so fancy! The restaurant has a beautiful fountain and a harpist who plays while you are sipping your tea. The server was very accommodating and attentive. Tea at Palm Court was the highlight of our little girls trip!"

  • ""High tea" evokes images of sophisticated tastes and all the accoutrements of gentry. The Palm Court tea service exemplifies this setting. All of it, from the ambience, the decor from the lobby to the seating area, the hosting, the food, the tea selection, and the service overall were exemplary. My wife's friends and I surpised her for her birthday with a high tea luncheon and the staff was absolutely wonderful. She was blown away. Every detail was perfect. I highly recommend high tea at the Palm Court as a unique experience to indulge - and to celebrate - the special woman in your life."

  • "I took my boyfriend here because he came from out of state. We both really enjoyed ourselves. The service was excellent and welcoming. It was not pushy and we had enough space for privacy. Our conversation was not frequently interupted. The afternoon tea service with the live harp playing was splendid. The finger sandwiches were delicious. The decor & atmosphere were very aesthetically pleasing. The palm court & the lobby are my 2 favorite places for afternoon tea. Thank you for a great experience."

  • "I took my mom here for a Mother's Day present, and we were both very impressed. Neither of us had done "afternoon tea at the Drake" before, and we were won over by beauty of the hotel including (if not especially) the room where the tea is, the tip-top service, and the unlimited, delightful finger foods. Also, the variety of tea choices was fun and we loved the ones we had (Pear Caramel and White Jasmine), and the Prosecco had tasty pear and caramel flavors as well (or was that just left over flavors from the tea?). :) HIGHLY recommended for any kind of special occasion, even if you have to make one up."

  • "The Palm Court hosts a delightful, traditional afternoon tea service. The classic food was fresh and delicious and the selection of teas extensive. The servers were attentive yet restrained. The harpist was wonderful and added a nice elegant touch to the afternoon. All in all, it was a delightful experience."

  • "Tea and service were both very good. The ambiance and decor was excellent. Definitely a place for special occasion or if you just want to dress up and be classy :) Food was very average to eh. The finger sandwiches were dry and tasted like it came from part of a mass production line/Costco. The desserts were more pretty than tasty. Spent over $100 with tip and tax for two ppl."

  • "While we had reservations, we were seated in the bar area, almost in the outside hallway of the hotel. There were several tables inside which were empty. We did ask for a different table, and were seated inside by an unhappy hostess. While the hostess was rude, our waiter was terrific. The tea selection was well rounded, the sandwiches delightful and the sweets beautifully prepared. Tiny cream puffs were shaped like swans. The harp music was elegant. The Palm Court is a beautiful room, in a lovely hotel, steeped in tradition. But I don't need to return. There is no need to pay $60 with tax and tip, per person, for tea, and be treated poorly."

  • "We had afternoon tea at the Palm with 9 women to kick off our friend's birthday celebration. Our waiter was very professional, but also had a humorous side to him. He made our birthday girl feel very special and brought out a little cake (of course we were stuffed by then!) The food was delicious and there is an excellent tea selection. Such a fun thing to do with a group of women!"

  • "Our only complaint is that the table we sat at had nowhere for our legs to go -- which is very uncomfortable to sit at for any length of time. And it's not the only time I've run into that. Otherwise, it's a beautiful room the high tea is wonderful."

  • "Great quiet brunch spot with my mom for a special occasion. We sat right next to the fountain and loved all the cute sandwiches, dessert, and delicious tea. Definitely on the pricey side, but a worthwhile splurge."

  • "The Palm Room is very pretty. Our server was great. The tea and the food (quality) was outstanding! It's nice that they will continue to bring plates (sweets, sandwiches, and/or scones) if you polish one off and want more. I'd eat those little sandwiches all day long if I could. I'm not a big tea dinner but the tea I had was f***ing amazing."

  • "Tasty assortment of finger sandwiches with a variety of teas offered. Excellent service and ambience. Would definitely go back with my mother or again with my daughters. A ladies afternoon out. I would definitely not take my husband, but thoroughly enjoyed myself. I've had High Tea at the Ritz in London and this was comparable."
