The food is very good and we added a momosa as a special drink this time. The drink was a bit, well, very expensive ($25), so I would rethink that in the future. But it is in The Plaza. Every sandwich, scone, and dessert was delicious and gorgeous. The ambience and decor was elegant. The service was very good when present. A few times, staff would disappear for awhile and it was hard to get the attention of a waiter if we needed something or had a question. But that last issue could be due to the fact that we arrived just before 5pm and while they were happy to serve us, tea seating ends at 5pm. The tea was served in pots that did not retain the heat. Had to ask the waiter to re-supply us in order to have decent cup of tea.

The ambiance is outstanding, and the service what you would expect from such an establishment - sharp, courteous, professional, with attention to detail. You never really know your server is there until you need him, and he knows you need him a moment before you do!
If you've had tea at such establishments as London Ritz or London Dorchester, you'll miss the ability to select your deserts from a tray / trolley selection, and may be a little disappointed in the scones - they are small and dry. The sandwiches were outstanding, a more creative selection than I've had before - and I'd have willingly traded some of the deserts for an extra sandwich! We took my mother for her birthday and she really enjoyed it. We both had the New York Tea, which comprised of a three tiered platter with finger sandwiches, bite-sized desserts and scones, complete with clotted cream, jam and lemon curd. My husband had the Fitzgerald Tea which differed slightly in the sandwich and dessert selection, but had the same portions. Wonderful for a special occasion and in close proximity to the theater district if you want to catch an evening show. Been to The Plaza twice now for tea and can say for some reason, I enjoyed it better on my first visit. Try as I might, I can't quite put my finger on why exactly that was. Might've just been a personal problem or something similar that day. My partner ordered the standard option and I opted for the Fitzgerald which was $10 more and had a few different menu variations from the other. I much preferred the desserts on his rather than mine. Given that this restaurant was at the top of our tea list, I was slightly disappointed in the service. The host did not welcome us. The head wait staff forgot to bring our check--I think he may have forgotten about us altogether. With that said, our server made sure that our beverages were full and we did not feel rushed. The food was good and plentiful. Growing up, my mother gave me tea parties as my signature way of celebrating my birthday. After my 18th birthday they fizzled out due to college, but when we planned to meet in NYC for my birthday I knew I had to try something extra special to mark this once-in-a-lifetime occasion. I got excited when I saw that afternoon tea was available and VERY affordable! We dressed up a little and arrived to experience one of the best memories of my life. This is an elegant experience of exceptional quality. The tea staff accommodated my pesco-vegetarian request and kept my tea-pot full. I asked for a particular seat when I arrived at a busy time (I was a party of one & wanted a high-backed blue velvet chair) and the host graciously asked me to wait a few moments. I was whisked to the seat of my dreams. I was able to enjoy not just a view of the entire court, but also my privacy. The food is spectacular, and the atmosphere is lovely. The service was fantastic and every staff member was warm and inviting. The Plaza is of course beautiful, so get to your reservation a bit early so you have time to look around! Be sure to come somewhat hungry, because the tea menu is much more filling than you might expect. Take as much time as you'd like to finish the meal, no one will rush you out after you've finished eating.
