Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed High Tea at The Palm Court. It was fabulous. The environment was spectacular, the tea and food were delicious, and the service was amazing. This was my first and only experience at the Palm Court. We arrived early and sat in the Lobby enjoying a glass of bubbly from the Champagne Bar, served by a gentleman dressed in tails. This was truly an experience. Overall the experience is definitely worth repeating."

  • "We had a great experience. The staff was exceptional and were especially friendly and catering to my two small children, which was very appreciated. The atmosphere is beautiful, as expected, and the food was very good."

  • "Ate 3 times during our Plaza stay, and we're pleasantly surprised each time. I recommend ordering a la carte if there for breakfast, the smoked salmon is phenomenal. The High Tea was amazing. My wife and I got the Chocolate tea and the Fitzgerald tea, and shared the selection. The fondue was a pleasant surprise (so good!) and the sandwiches and scones were fresh and full of impactful flavour. They knew me and greeted me by name on my second visit, which was very welcoming. Highly recommend! If worried about price, head down to the market for a huge selection of treats, drinks and food options. The Plaza lives up to its reputation!"

  • "What a magnificent venue! Afternoon tea at the Plaza was everything we hoped it would be and more. The food was delicious, the champagne was exquisite and the service was impeccable. We were treated royally from beginning to end. It was a truly memorable experience."

  • "It is the Plaza! However, the food served with the Tea is not very good. The bread with the finger sandwiches was stale. The server will come and take your order but good luck on him coming back anytime soon."

  • "First time ever to The Plaza Hotel and The Palm Court. Food was excellent both from the buffet and from the menu. Service was top notch! And the atmosphere was amazing! Well worth it!"

  • "Delightful old world ambiance. Impeccable service. Trying to charm your 13 year old granddaughter , take her here for lunch or high tea and show her what life was like when you were growing up; when manners and conversation were still the rule of the day."

  • "I made a reservation at the Palm Court for a special occasion. I ordered one platter for my friend and I and another platter for my children to share. When the bill came we were charged for sharing. It should have been mentioned at the time of ordering. Otherwise the experience was very nice."

  • "Visiting NYC from Canada and we just had to book tea at the Plaza. There is a bit of price shock at first ($55-$65 for sandwiches, deserts and tea) however this is THE Plaza Hotel in NYC so we booked it as a treat. The service was fabulous and we were given a lovely table with a chaise lounge and chairs around it. The food was great for a tea. The real star was the Palm Court room itself - stained glass ceiling, chandeliers, palm trees. Great fun for a girls' weekend in NYC."

  • "I took my 14 yr old daughter to The Palm Court at The Plaza for a special treat. The hostess was welcoming. The waiter wasn't impolite, but he wasn't friendly. I ordered the breakfast buffet. My daughter ordered from the menu. After not seeing the buffet's hot offerings I returned to the table and asked the waiter for help. He gestured to the area where I had just been, and said "It's over there." I expected the waiter to either escort me or at least be more descriptive. The buffet's eggs were warm, the potatoes cold, and the bacon was fine. My daughter's food was hot and well prepared. Overall, the experience was disappointing."

  • "Sadly, the food quality was not at all up to par. The lobster roll was one bite on bread that was stale. The cucumber sandwiches were soggy. The scones were the good, but the deserts were left by all three of us as they were not at all enticing. Considering the very high price of the fixed menu, I would rate the food equality a serious disappointment. My guests felt similarly. The hotel is stunning with its rich history and architectural beauty and it was that much more confusing that the food did not live up to the standard expected. I would not return. However, I would recommend dining downstairs as the food is very good with a diverse menu of better quality and more reasonably priced."

  • "A great place for a classy Sunday Brunch. Don't expect rushed service, it is deliberately more laid back, but very nice. The Shops below ground in The Plaza also offer nice sweet treats and other snacks if you just want a brief respite."

  • "Came here for the brunch continental buffet and a mimosa. The prices were a little steep ($25 for one drink), but the ambience and charming quality made up for it. I would definitely come back. It is not a place that I would eat very often, but for a special treat or occasion it is wonderful! Wait staff was fabulous and very attentive."

  • "I had afternoon tea here with 3 friends, 2 of which were from out of town. I had never had tea at The Plaza before but had experienced tea service at other high end hotels. The food, tea, and presentation were excellent. But the service left a lot to be desired. My friend ordered a bellini that never came. Our trays were never replenished and it was quite a long time between visits from the waiter. It was crowded but it seemed there were a lot of servers working. We finally told the hostess who was very apologetic and sent the waiter over but after making it up to us with a complimentary bellini and refilling our tea pots, he disappeared again. Overall, the experience was not terrible but I do not think I will return."

  • "It's an annual tradition for my mother and I to come for the afternoon tea. We tried it years ago, and she loved it so much, we keep coming back. Service has always been great, the presentation is beautiful and the decor is breathtaking. You wouldn't think a tea service would be filling either, but this one is. The variety of little scones, sandwiches and desserts are delish. They have a nice selection of teas as well, my favorite being the Madame Butterfly Jasmine Green tea. All in all, just a very nice place to go and experience the grandeur of the Gilded Age."

  • "I read the poor reviews and was a little concerned, but wanted to take my 4 year old daughter and my mother for tea and the Plaza and nothing else would really do. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was attentive. Perhaps it took a bit longer for the food to arrive than I would have liked, but it's supposed to be a relaxing afternoon tea. The food was good. I would say it was expensive, but both grandma and 4 year old were happy."

  • "We had tea; it was marvelous. We had an eight-month old with us and our server was impeccable. No rushed service, we could have dawdled as long as we pleased over tea."

  • "I took my aunt and uncle for a birthday celebration. We got dressed in business casual and once we got there realized no one really dresses, which surprised us. We all ordered the New York Tea. It was $65 a person. You get a tiered presentation with sandwiches on the bottom, scones in the middle and dessert on top. The food was very good. You get to chose which tea you would like and the waiter will bring you your own pot. I do think for what you get, it is extremely overpriced. You are paying for being at The Plaza Hotel. When I got my bill it was over $200. When I thought about what we actually had, I cringed. Some tiny sandwiches and little desserts just doesn't warrant that price. I have done it, and will not be doing it again."

  • "It's the Plaza! It's Afternoon Tea at the Plaza! Something fun to do for a special occasion - it was my gift to my mother for Mother's Day. Very pricey - you pay for the experience. Everything was good but would love to see "real" British/Australian-style scones instead of what they served. We were surprised at how filling the food was - we couldn't finish it between the two of us! (We ordered one of each of the sets offered)."

  • "This was a special 13th birthday celebration! We enjoyed the afternoon tea. This will be a fond memory for my granddaughter. She will always remember tea at the Plaza when she turned 13! It was delightful!"

  • "There was nothing on any of the tea trays we didn't like; it all tasted good (some of it really good) and was interesting. Particular standouts were the Rueben, cucumber sandwich, and raspberry pavlova. My pear tea tasted nothing like pear, but my expectations otherwise hadn't been very high, and it was still fine. The room was gorgeous and brightly lit by the sun on a Sunday in June. Service, including the hostess and "bouncer" at the lobby entrance (we only wanted to go to the bathroom, dude), was distant, superior and cold. Maybe that was the vibe they were going for? Among friends that was easy to ignore though. Overall I would absolutely recommend for tea. We had a wonderful time."

  • "After a stay at the Plaza and visiting the Oak Bar, I had always wanted to do High Tea at the Plaza. What an outstanding experience! The wait staff could not be better, and we were lucky enough to get a seasoned 25 year Plaza waiter who made you feel totally pampered. We each had the New York sandwiches and savories, with such winner options as pastrami on rye, lox and bagels as well as other assorted sandwiches. There were also warm scones with 3 toppings to choose from. Just a sample of desserts included dark chocolate ganache tartlette, a black and white cookie along with other delectable treats. We chose 2 teas to complement our meal and were also given a soothing after meal tea. Well worth it!!!!"

  • "Took my daughter (26YO so no Eloise) here to lunch. She wasn't particularly hungry and asked for the dessert menu. They told her no. What? I don't get it. It wasn't crowded, it wasn't tea time and I ordered a full meal. No service at The Plaza. Poor form."

  • "As always The Plaza is the perfect place to enjoy tea time. The sandwich variety has improved considerably and the service is excellent. We missed the traditional old china teapots and tea infusers originally used, but all and all it is still my perfect place for afternoon tea. Heard that there are renovations in place during the summer months. Hope they manage to keep the charming ambiance of the Palm Court."

  • "We had afternoon tea. The service was mediocre. If we needed something, we had to flag a waiter, which was difficult. The bread in the tea sandwiches was stale, as was some of the swetets. The Palm Court is exquisite which is why we chose it. Next time we retun to The Pierre for afternoon tea."

  • "This is a MUST visit for classical elegance, fine food, and service. From the silver plated flatware, the classic chairs with tables bedecked with gleaming white table cloths, flowers and then more silver service pieces, the classical dining lover will never experience a finer experience. The Greek and Roman architecture is stunning. ,The marble pilasters and gold toned capitals are accentuated by mirrors--and then of course, the gigantic palms from which the name evolves. All this elegance, and then our breakfast as perfect. My companion is a gourmet cook and fussy about her eggs. She said the eggs Benedict were better than hers! If you want to expose your kids to the difference between eating and dining, this is the place."

  • "Pretty dis-appointing. Food was good to OK, my two sons really liked the blueberry pancakes, but we were all horribly shocked on how bad the service was. This is the Plaza - you're paying close to $200 for lunch for 4 and it seemed like it was a genuine burden for the staff. The day before I ate lunch at the 4 seasons and it was a complete opposite - they treated you with respect and attention. I'm very low maintenance - my good service mark is I sit down bring me a menu, I finish my iced tea ask me if I want more, bring me my food promptly and when I'm done come ask me if I need anything else. Pretty simple stuff and the Plaza miserably failed on all counts."

  • "I brought my granddaughter for a 16th Birthday special lunch. She loved the ambiance, the service and the entire dining time.. She was impressed with the Plaza and she remembered the children's book I had given her of Eloise at the Plaza. She was delighted to begin her "day in the city" with the elegant culinary experience of the Palm Court. Barbara"

  • "Having grown up reading Eloise, my family are big fans of the Plaza. Brunch in the Palm Court is just like a scene out of the books. The buffet fare is simple -- eggs, bacon, potatoes, meats and cheeses, cereals, croissants and danish -- but good, filling, and well-stocked. But let's face it, you go for the setting, not the eggs. And every minute is fun."
