The Painted LadyDiamond in the roughIn the tiny though charming town of Newberg, Oregon, we happened on an exquisite restaurant that absolutely stunned us. It was one of those happy accidents that produced a memory we will have forever. We are foodies and maybe a little snobby, but this place superseded our expectations. Do not miss this gem, but do make reservations. Service was impeccable without being over-solicitous.
It was nice to have an intimate fine dining experience in such a charming setting. Pricing was beyond reasonable for a tasting menu. I applaud the chef, wait staff, and owner. All should be proud of The Painted Lady!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter for later dinningWe had a wonderful food experience - 7 course chef's menu. But dinning early before returning to Portland after a day in the Willamette Valley, didn't provide us with the full dinning experience. It was very quiet in the restaurant until about 7:30 pm so if the atmosphere is part of your dinning experience, select a later time for dinner. The service was excellent, matching everyone of our food courses.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA great experience. The best dinner experience! Everything was excellent, perfectly prepared food paired with local wine pairings.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for an older crowd. We thought the food was great. Service was good, but it seemed heavy and the five tables in the dining room were older people on celebrations of one type or another. Corkage is over the top at $35 per bottle! Seriously?
So while we loved the food, the atmosphere for us was much too stuffy. This is the place to send parents or grandparents when they want to dust off the jacket and celebrate an anniversary, birthday, etc6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA special dining experienceThe food is suberb. Even foods I don't typically like, when prepared by the Painted Lady, taste wonderful. The rabbit was the best prepared meat I have ever tasted, and the huckleberry sorbet is the best dessert I have ever enjoyed. The staff is courteous and attentive. I have dined at the Painted Lady twice, and both visits rank among the best dining experiences I have ever had.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular!Attention to detail was nothing short of over-the-top. Food was outstanding. One of the best dining experiences we've had in a long long time.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMfabulous experience as alwaysWhenever we are in the area, we have dinner at the Painted Lady. The food is always exceptional. The service is wonderful - very unobtrusive. Everything is done perfectly. My husband always gets the wine pairing which he really enjoys. I'm not that much of a wine drinker, so I usually go for the pear martini. I think this is Oregon's finest restaurant.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMExperience overwhelms priceI am writing as a middle class average guy who took his wife to The Painted Lady for a particularly special anniversary, our 25th. We are a couple who have experienced fine dining on occasion and popular dining frequently. We love to eat out. This is the most expensive dinner experience we have ever had. That said, it was worth it. The chefs here are true artists in their field. The food was unparalleled. The atmosphere was elegant, but not stuffy. We were very comfortable and the service was very attentive, polite, but not obtrusive. It was a two hour experience that we will fondly remember and definitely do again. For a very special experience it is highly, highly recommended.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWill go backMy husband and I had dinner there recently. We found the food was excellent and beautifully presented. The staff was professional and attentive. Because of the smallness of the room, the noise level increased as the guests became comfortable and the evening progressed.
However, we shall be back (with friends) next time.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Painted Lady is the mainThe Painted Lady is the main reason we travel to Oregon Wine Country. This is the best restaurant in Oregon (and probably Washington where we live). Time and time again we are not disappointed. The prices are also very reasonable for what you get. The way the menu is set up, fixed price with choices for all courses, is great and easy to deal with.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMyou have to go!The Painted Lady provides what every restaurant diner looks for and rarely finds. We live in the SF Bay area and have a plethora of dining options with excellent food, great ambiance and a noise level that makes conversation enjoyable. Alas! they are rarely found in the same place. The Painted Lady is characterized by all three and it's relative affordability and fine service are rarely replicated even in highly touted restaurants. A must in the Willamette Valley, with a 2009 $42.00 Pinot on the wine list.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food!Quaint well appointed restaurant with a great extensive notable wine list. Attentive staff and a tasting menu to satisfy any critic.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous night to end a vacationOur visit was recommended by Jillian at the Adelsheim Vineyard, and her suggestions were all terrific. Everything went smoothly as the hostess opened the door as we came in since it was raining. Every question was answered well, the food came out promptly, more water was poured out without asking, and everything tasted lovely. Thank you!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMTop restaurant in Willamette ValleyPerfect evening in an outstanding resturant. We had the tasting menu with wine pairings and every course was delicious with perfect local wines. Service was very personal and attentive. Only minor complaint is that after the wonderful tasting menu, the large selection of chocolate desserts was a little too much. As delicious as each offering was, I couldn't finish it. We will definitely be back on our next trip to Oregon!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best dinner experiencesOne of the best dinner experiences of my entire life! Hats off.....5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMA true destination restaurantBest of local sourced food presented with International excellence and flair. The ultimate Oregon Pinot Noir wine list with excellent offerings by the glass too. Only negative: wait staff were well informed and helpful, but overall a bit too formal, plus disregard website statement about "jackets for men suggested"-no guest that evening but me had on a jacket.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDelightful and Delicious... elegantFor a significant birthday - Painted Lady capped off our day of celebration with a not to be forgotten experience. The attention to detail, exceptional cuisine and personalized service - our evening will be remembered and shared with others.
Thank you5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMClose to PerfectionOur dinner at the Painted Lady truly was the finest imaginable prix fixe experience. Each course was delicious and so beautifully presented. The one off note was that my main course had somehow been allowed to cool off too much before it was served, which greatly impacted my enjoyment of the main event. Other than that, all was perfection, and I will spend the remainder of my life day-dreaming about the gnocchi with wild mushrooms.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWaited 7 years - worth the wait!We visited the Willamette Valley 7 years ago, but misfortune struck, and the Painted Lady was briefly closed due to water pipe breakage. We recently returned, and couldn't wait to try again. The experience was terrific. The food was outstanding. It was creative, beautifully presented, fresh and delicious. The service was also exceptional. The kind of place where you don't even notice how the correct utensil magically appears when needed. One great example - as the hostess greeted us, she reached into the supply of linens to select light or dark napkins according to our dress, to ensure that nobody's nice outfit was covered in lint. Wine pairings were well matched. And (amazing!) it was quiet enough to hear each other!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMI have had the pleasure ofI have had the pleasure of dining at some of the better restaurants around the country as well as many in France and Italy. I would rank the meal I had at the Painted Lady as one of my top 5 best ever. The presentation was wonderful and the service impeccable. I was in Newberg on business so my wife was not able to share the experience. Although I live in Seattle, I am planning our anniversary weekend around a trip back to Newberg in order to celebrate out anniversary dinner at the Painted Lady.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst class dining experienceThe food and service is always impeccable here. My favorite restaurant experience in Oregon. Plan at least 2 hours for dinner.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Dining experience yet!The whole experience at the Painted Lady was incredible! The service was wonderful we never felt crowded or bother but someone was always there and attending to our need. The food was delectable and such a fantastic experience the many small portions were filling but also made you fill good, and it was great to try so many new and different things. The atmosphere was quite and comfortable felt like i was in my own home.
Thank you for the wonderful experience, we will be back again.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a charming place andWhat a charming place and so romantic ! We enjoyed the food and the amazing service. All the menu was perfect ! We did the tasting menu with wine pairing and it was just heaven !4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic as expectedFantastic experience. Diners need to be prepared for an entire evening at The Painted Lady. Our experience was 3 hours. Staff was very professional and polite. Explained everything on the menu and every course when brought to the table. If time is short in Wine Country this is a must stop (if you enjoy fine dining). Dress code is jackets preferred, but not required. Some gentlemen were without jacket, but wore dress shirt with tie.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMBob and LynMy wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary last week at The Painted Lady and had one of the best meals and dining experiences in recent memory! Each course was noteworthy on its own merits, from appetizer to desert. The wait staff was courteous, engaging and professional and overall, its simply hard to imagine how our experience could have been better! Our compliments to the master chef and his staff! You deserve your outstanding reputation!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMYes, it IS the best in Oregon! This is among the best, if not the best, restaurants we have had the pleasure of experiencing. Over a six year period we have eaten at The Painted Lady several times and the quality and favors of the food, the presentation, the service and the atmosphere has been consistently outstanding. A dining experience does not get any better than The Painted Lady! Truly a unique and exceptional dining pleasure.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBest 5 Star Dining ExperienceThe staff were very polite and their customer service was above reproach. Even when there was a rude customer who instead of asking for assistance decided to grab a well chilled bottle of white wine, dropping it on his dinner companion's plate breaking it, when staff approached he made a snide comment about doing their job and the staff was polite and quick to clean up the mess and replace the meal he ruined.
I apologized to our waiter for that as it was undeserved and my wife and I felt bad about that for them.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEveryone was so friendly.Everyone was so friendly. I took my husband there for his birthday and everyone on the staff wished him a happy birthday. It was an overall great experience. The food was excellent and the wine pairings were spot in. Couldn't have been any better!3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second specialThis was our second special dining event at The Painted Lady. This was my gift to my husband for his birthday. I noted that on the reservartion and he was king for the evening. The food is among the best we have experienced in New York City and France. What a gem to be found in a small town in rural Oregon. The Oregon Wine pairings with each course reflected the beauty of vintages and the talent of the chef. This is our go to place for anniversaries and birthdays. My husband was persented with a personal birthday cake to take home since dessert was part of the prix fix menu. Our server waited for us at the front door to take our picture on the front porch as left. This was a memorable evening to celebrate my husband's life.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMA wine country gem!The food was prepared perfectly and the presentation was beautiful. The service was impeccable. We had the chef's menu with the wine pairing and left everything to their very capable hands. They amazed us with every dish. It is always a pleasure to sit down and be treated to the chef's amuse-bouche, in this case a trio of bites, before we started our official meal. After our dessert another surprise arrived, a three-tiered tower of chocolates and cookies. They even asked about our favorites and then when we left had them boxed up for us to enjoy later. It was our anniversary and they made it very special indeed.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Painted Lady never disappoints! The Painted Lady never disappoints! The food not only tastes incredible it's also almost too beautiful to eat. Everything about this place is special.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb dining experienceWe had heard great things about this place and were not disappointed. The food was superb, the wait staff attentive and the place has a very nice ambiance. I am glad we went.3/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
