A word from The Oxford
The hallmark of a gastropub is an adventurous twist on familiar food made from scratch with honest ingredients. We prefer a straightforward bill of fare that leaves room for experimentation. Its as adventurous as you want to be. Fancy or simple, the dishes are all reasonably priced. We serve a menu having a world beat that is unpretentious and equally inviting to regulars and families with strollers in tow. Gastro pubs are not 'see and be seen' venues but more 'come as you are' places. In short, bridging the gap between traditional Pubs and upscale Restaurants. A Cuisine-conscious tavern, specializing in high-quality food a step above basic 'pub grub' Continued

  • "Nice English pub feel. Traditional dishes with subtle twists. Great place for game time"

  • "My first turnoff was the sticky floors! The food and service was ok but not what we expected."

  • "Great location for dinner prior to a show/concert at Memorial Hall."

  • "We were celebrating our anniversary so this was a great place to start the day. We had excellent service and many of the servers stopped at our table to wish us a happy anniversary. Food was good, but the service was the best part!"

  • "Food and service were great. Overate because the food was so tasty!"

  • "I'm usually not a buffet type person, but this one wasn't bad. The only thing I can say was that the roasted meat was a little too seasoned. The pulled pork was too sweet and the beef was way over seasoned. If they just use salt and pepper and let the meat be the flavor would be great. But the omelet was great."

  • "Apparently Memorial Day week is pretty dead for restaurants. I was surprised how empty the place was. Food was good and server was attentive, if not very knowledgeable about menu choices. The fried avocado was light and very good."

  • "The location of The Oxford is perfect for performances at the Memorial Hall area. I had Shepherd's Pie and my wife had fish and chips, both good although I thought mine had a bit too much thyme. The menu is very varied with typical British pub food along with more sophisticated food. We intend to eat here regularly before performances at the nearby theaters. "

  • "We love the Oxford. The staff is very knoedgeable. This last visit we had Josh who was great. He knew the menu inside and out. Gave great suggestions that on a whole we took. One of our favorites is the beef Short Ribs with spinach, shoestring onions and blue cheese mashed potatoes. It is a great restaurant if you have show tickets as it is 2 blocks from The theatre. "

  • "The restaurant has excellent, tasty, well-presented entrees such as the salmon croquettes and butternut soup. Our wait person, Joshua, was helpful and recommended items on the menu. He was conscious of our need to attend the symphony on time and made sure that we were able to meet that time. Parking was easy...just across the street, so we were very happy with our girls' night out and our restaurant choice. "

  • "Perfect for a pre-Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts concert meal (and there's a discount with NC Symphony tickets). Creative, nicely seasoned food (a bit pricey). Very limited wine list. TV screens with various sports events unavoidable (if that's a problem for you)."

  • "A bit loud, like a pub should be. Excellent friendly service. Great selection of beers on tap. English pub standard dishes plus fairly complex entrees; Our "small plate" grass-fed filet was smaller than most appetizers (a single 2-3 oz slice of beef). A bit steep prices for the entrees, but the tastes were outstanding. The pub standards were more reasonably priced."

  • "So apparently, Monday night is the only day of the week they do not offer the "other menu special"; therefore the choices were extremely limited. The staff on Monday was extremely limited as well. Our server was AWESOME! He handled our table as well as the huge office party that showed up. I wasn't impressed with my order or my drink. However, I have been to the Oxford on other occasions and have been very pleased with my meal..... I just know never to return on Mondays due to the limited menu."

  • "We were all Wowed! by the.flavors and accommodations. My burger was extremely perfect. The quesadilla was even better. Sometimes you wonder when something tastes so go that it's too good to be true. Not the case here, that's for sure. We can't wait to go back! Loved the whole experience. We sat outside. It just might be the best prepared and freshest tasting food I've had. My burger looked like it belonged in a magazine. Awesome!!!!!!"

  • "The food and beer selection is outstanding. It can get a little loud and rowdy at times but still works for a good date night option."

  • "We met some friends at the Oxford before going to see the NC Symphony; we chose the restaurant because they are currently offering a 10% discount on food to Symphony ticket holders. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable, almost a bit too chatty. They have a very good beer selection including some local brews, and everyone's meal was excellent. Entree prices mostly range from $10-25, which was higher than I expected for a restaurant with a pub atmosphere, but my entree (the chicken bangers) was from the low end of the price range and was excellent. The Oxford is an easy walk to both the Duke Energy Performing Arts Center and the Red Hat Amphitheater, so is a good location for a pre-concert or play dinner."

  • "British pub-like atmosphere, although the restaurant can hardly be called cozy. Good steaks, reasonable prices. Fayetteville St hotspot. Live music , at least on Friday nights."

  • "The Oxford was everything we had heard - a good place for a good meal and social interaction! A variety of food set it apart from basic burger/sandwich bars. Fun place!"

  • "Having dined at The Oxford for a previous brunch a few months ago, this recent experience was a huge disappointment. The jazz band is gone, the waffle station is gone, the food selections are reduced and were not replenished. Service was great but that is not enough to return for lackluster food."

  • "It was within walking distance from memorial auditorium which was great We liked that the menu had fish entrees as well as sandwiches. Great pomegranate martini."

  • "I have been going to the Oxford for a long time, they are always updating the menu to keep it fresh and always have amazing food. I took my wife there for Valentine's this year and she loved it. The food is wonderful, you can tell the chef puts a lot of thought into the dishes. They always have the classic dishes but keep it fresh with a rotating menu. Our waiter was very helpful explaining the menu."

  • "I found this "gastropub" a little out of sorts. I walked in and felt like this must have once been a night club, since retrofitted into a restaurant. Space was strange and confused, with over-loud ambiance and decor. Service was not the best I've had for the price points on the menu, but the food was very good. I would return if the space had a make-over!"

  • "The food was a miss for me this time. My boyfriend enjoyed his though. I had gotten the ginnoch with spinach and rabbit sausage. None of it went together and the rabbit wasn't even cooked with the rest of it. Last time I went we both had amazing dishes."

  • "Good pub type atmosphere with food that is above "pub food" category. Our server was attentive without being overbearing. I will go back"

  • "Brunch starts about 10:30, and the place wasn't busy until a little past noon. Great, friendly service from wait staff and carving station/omelet station personnel. Food was fresh, and portion sizes were appropriate (for example, biscuits were refreshingly small so you didn't need to fill your plate in order to do a biscuit and gravy). Prices very reasonable. Try the barbecue - it's incredible!"

  • "The dining scene in downtown Raleigh keeps getting better and The Oxford is one of the very good restaurants downtown. The service was just right and so was the food. Billed as a British gastropub! I expected the usual pub fare but was pleasantly surprised to find it was more than that. I would recommend to my friends and go there again."

  • "A friend and I tried this place for lunch the Friday after Christmas. The restaurant was very quiet throughout lunch (11:30 to 1:30). You could easily have a conversation without yelling; the hostess was very friendly and promptly seated us. The waiter was top notch. He knew the food and could offer meaningful recommendations. We followed his instruction and ordered two of his favorites (the BBQ Short Rib Sandwich on Brioche and the ABC (i.e., BLT w/ Granny Smith) with a side of the Tomato Stilton Bisque. Absolutely delicious. We hardly left anything on the plate. The food was fresh and bright. Very good. We will definitely be going back for lunch, again!"

  • "Something a little different - calamari was delicious, as were the Bloody Marys! Nothing was left on any of the plates - clean plate club all the way around..."

  • "Calvin was our server and he was great! He was there when we needed something and made great recommendations. Our table location wasn't great - we were in the corner and the next table was just a few feet away. We had to listen to loud, annoying people at the next table - not the fault of The Oxford, of course."

  • "I needed to meet clients downtown for the first time over lunch. I need a quiet unassuming spot and The Oxford fit the bill perfectly. Good pub food with enough space around tables that you could have a private conversation. Great wait staff. Will go again."

  • "Food and drinks were great! Nice selection of drinks off the menu. One of a kind concoctions. Food selections were numerous for everyone in our party to choose. The wait staff were very knowledgeable and friendly Our first time there and we will be back! ."

  • "I had the duck with the butternut squash gnocchi, which was just wonderful. Husband had bangers and mash. Our friends had the rainbow trout and the short ribs. Everyone was happy with their meals. We all sampled from each other's plates. Everything was great. We shared a bottle of very nice wine, and had lovely desserts. I especially enjoyed the tarte tatin. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "Having never been to a gastropub before I was not sure what to expect from The Oxford. The exceptional service and delightfully different twist on pub food was a nice break from the ordinary. I would recommend this pub to anyone looking for something different for the Saturday night rendezvous."

  • "Food was perfect for a cold, windy night in the city. Warn and hearty food with wonderful unique favors. Place was cozy. Service was great."

  • "I had brunch there this past Sunday. The temperature of the food on the buffet was slightly warm at best. The quality of the sausages was mediocre - the pattys were mealy. The omelet bar was the best part of it. The Red Velvet Cake was atrocious. In the south, there are expectations for Red Velvet cake...this did not come close. The cake was dense but moist - but lacked the red velvet cocoa flavor... the icing was plentiful.. The true taste of the dish was harmed by the fact that it was served cold. These cake should have been presented at room temperature. I think management needs to experience the brunch through the eyes of a customer."

  • "Brunch service was a little slow... had to wait for a couple of the stations to be replaced. Apart from that though it was awesome. Not my first time and certainly not my last. Music was amazing as always and the food was delicious. All around very good brunch!"

  • "Sunday Brunch was a disappointment. Website indicated there would be a pancake and waffle station - there wasn't. Our server was not very attentive and "disappeared" for the last 20 minutes we were there. We were in a bit of rush so when she came back by we just handed over our credit card because we didn't want to wait any more. Surprised by the price (only got credit card copy, not detailed check) but didn't over think it (my mistake) but after leaving realized we may have been overcharged (at least based on pricing on website) since our bill was over $50 (not incl. tip) and our party was 2 adults and 1 child (3) and we only had juice and coffee no alcohol. I wouldn't say brunch was terrible, the food was ok but not worth the price."
