Diner Reviews
  • "The food: excellent! They have great vegetarian fare, while maintaining a more limited but still delicious selection of meat-centric dishes. This was our 3rd time and we were not disappointed. The menu changes often, so check back - know you will not be disappointed on this front! The service this time was mediocre. We made reservations, and got stuck in a corner. Our waiter treated us like children.... feigning surprise when we ordered alcohol then scrutinizing our ID's, and finally a theatrical start when he saw my AMEX card. If someone makes a reservation don't stick them in a corner while the couple who didn't have one gets a nice outside (which we weren't offered.) Your food might bring us back, but your service won't!"

  • "This establishment is always preparing unique and interesting choices for both vegan and non-vegan pallets. Good wine choices as well."

  • "I have been vegan for a little over a year now adopting a 90% plant based diet. This resturant was a treat for me as well as my carnivorous husband and in-laws. We will be back!"

  • "You will never know you are eating vegan food! (There are non vegan meat dishes too). This was the BEST place I've eaten at in NY."

  • "We had two vegetarian/vegans in our group of five. The Owl House actually had great options for them without resorting to a salad or a lame tofu burger. We all shared grilled tofu nachos and their signature black pepper & rosemary fries for an appetizer. Rave reviews all around. The garbanzo and sweet potato soup was delicious. Our entrees included: pork tenderloin with grilled brussel sprouts & sweet potatoes; wild salmon; mac & cheese w/ grilled mushrooms; and vegetable soft tacos. We were passing plates plates all around because everyone wanted to taste what the others were oohing and aahing about. If your dining party has a broad range of preferences, particularly if they range to vegan, then you can't beat eating at the Owl House."

  • "The owl house was one of the first Gluten-Free restaurants that I found here in Rochester. I happened to stumble upon it and I've been going back ever since. They change their menu according to the seasons and the variety and specials are amazing. If you have to eat Gluten-Free or are Vegan, vegetarian of you just like great food, come here."

  • "In general, this restaurant has an excellent selection of beers and very innovative vegetarian cuisine but I was a bit disappointed with the summer offerings"

  • "What a fantastic find!! The Owl House is a converted house in the middle of a quite neighborhood street. Walking up to the porch and through the front door we were greeted by the bartender and asked if we would prefer inside or outside. We chose outside and were shown through the small dining room to the back yard. Cafe tables sat under patio umbrellas and a large open wooden gazebo. Various plants and flowers filled the yard. My husband and I each ordered the The Hot Beav Burger. A Chickpea, White Bean & Chipotle Patty with Sriracha Strawberry Jam, Mayo and Crispy Onions to top it off. So many flavors and just enough heat to keep it interesting. They offered a great beer selection but we chose the fresh squeezed lemonade."

  • "The old bay tempeh was the best sandwich I've ever had. It really was. And I'm not even vegan. I liked that they had a good mix of vegan and regular food. They had a small menu but that was understandable given the size of the place and its in a house. But all the items were interesting. I had a hard time deciding even amungst the 8 or so choices. I loved the music but it was just a little loud. The waiter was friendly albeit a little absent minded. But that's a small matter. The local art work on the wall.... From high school students was really fantastic. Comfortable and clean. I highly recommend."

  • "This was my first time at The Owl House. I am a Vegan and I found SEVERAL options to choose from! The seared tofu was amazing. Great ambience and great service. Would definitely go there again!"

  • "The food here was ok, the drinks were ok, and the service was acceptable. The menu was unexciting, especially for vegetarians/vegans. The dishes were what you could get at any restaurant with an option to substitute vegan ingredients. There was a typical breakfast, with bacon, toast, and eggs, with an option to sub in tofu scramble and fakin. My girlfriend got a salad, which she didnt particularly enjoy. The kale was extremely chewy, and the raw shaved brussell sprouts didn't help much. Also, the first drink she ordered, forgot the name but it was the one with hibiscus liquor was terrible. It tasted like medicine. They replaced it though, so that was very nice of them. The chicken and waffles was good, but the chicken was a bit too chewy"

  • "This was our first time at The Owl House. Food was excellent! I am typically a meat and potatoes guy, but decided to go for the full experience. My wife and I split the vegan crab cakes and I ordered the "Hot Beav Burger." I was quite impressed and have craved another one each day since!"

  • "Husband and went there for the first time on Friday. I started with the Elderflower Gimlet cocktail and my husband had the Port Of Call. For appetizer we shared the hard cider-battered tofu nuggets with a ginger sauce and pickled red cabbage. I ordered the braised beef Los Tacos with white bean salad for my main course and husband had the pork tenderloin with roasted carrots on a bed of brussel sprouts. We shared a vegan shortcake with fresh berries and cream for dessert. Everything we ate and drank was absolutely delicious!! The atmosphere was welcoming and our server was very friendly. I have been looking for a restaurant like this for a very long time and can't wait to go back!"

  • "Great Ambiance and very good service. I would have like to have the lunch option as well (during weekends) - the menu looked very interesting but only brunch was offered. Overall a great neighborhood place."

  • "Visiting Rochester for a wedding. It also happened to be our anniversary. Owl was recommended by a relative. Wonderful choice. Lovely outdoor setting. Very friendly, attentive service and the food was very original and delicious. Vegan offerings were over the top bursting with flavor. Meat and fish offerings also excellent. Chocolate avocado mouse was superb!"

  • "I won't say this place is bad, but it wasn't stellar. Their cocktails were what I really looked forward to but they were far from amazing. No better or worse than something you can make at home and they use bottom shelf booze to make them, so obviously whoever developed them isn't really in to mixology. The food was good, not amazing. It was unique. The buffalo fried cauliflower was good, but again not amazing. Their meat wasn't tender and was bland, but it's a restaurant aimed at vegetarians so it makes sense. It is a cool place and the idea is good, but wasn't worth the price. Glad I went, but will never return."

  • "The parking is definitely a problem. The waitress was very good and the outside seating area lovely. But the food was just okay as far as lunches go. My friend and I had sandwiches which came with an almost dry salad or too salty homemade chips. Can't say I'd rave about it to anyone."

  • "Food was good, but the ambiance is not at all good. May be we expected more. If you want to have a casual dinner then its ok."

  • "We enjoyed ourselves at The Owl House. We started at the bar where Charles expertly made our cocktails. Then, we sat outside where Donnie was our server. We ordered a number of the smaller plates and 1 large plate (all vegetarian). We consumed everything! Everything was delicious and very flavorful."

  • "It is sometimes difficult to find a place to eat out with a vegan, vegetarian and a meat eater. The owl house has great specials, good food and good portion control. Each bite is flavorful and the unique combinations are a wonderful food experience."

  • "Amazing food, ordered the kale salad; was so well made I didn't regret not ordering something more "fun". My friend had the same, and while we were eating we kept saying to each other, "I'm so glad I ordered this!". Waitress was super friendly and very attentive. Great atmosphere, reasonable prices for such fresh and healthy food. I highly recommend. "

  • "I've been wanting to try the Owl House and finally did on a nice summer night. I made a reservation and we were seated outside on the patio. I had a special cocktail, the Elderflower Gimlet, which our waitress said was her favorite and I liked it. They have quite an extensive draft beer list and our waitress convinced my husband to get a Pint instead of a Pony, which he was glad she did. We started with Buffalo Cauliflower Wings. Anything with Franks hot sauce I figured we'd love and we did. Got the fries which were very good, but a huge serving. My husband had a burger which was good and he ended up taking 1/2 of it home & had for lunch the next day. I had a special which was scallops that was very tasty. Will definitely go back again. "

  • "My wife has converted to gluten free. We had a trip to Rochester scheduled so after searching for gluten free, I came across the Owl House. Everything on the menu can be converted to gluten free. Vegan options and meat options as well, so everyone is happy. Food is fresh, service is solid. Indoor seating as well as outdoor. We chose outdoor. Fine tap list. "

  • " The nachos were fantastic, tasty, and seemingly healthy. Make sure to try them. Two in my group got the steak special and the preparation and seasoning were spot on. I got the mac and cheese and it was a bit bland. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was lovely. I will go back. "

  • "We were very pleased with our dining experience at Owl House. My partner and I are vegan and we went with my parents and my partner's omnivore son. The vegan dishes were delicious and it was so nice to be able to eat out and not worry about the ingredients in the dish! My parents and my partner's son loved their meat dishes and we all shared the two vegan desserts after our meal. They were both wonderful but the german chocolate cake was the winner. The coffee was wonderful as well! Our server's name was Sarah and she was very friendly, fast and helpful despite being tripple sat with two tables being parties of 5 or more. I love Owl House and I can't wait to go back!"

  • "Our family is vegetarian but had out of town relatives who are meat-eaters. At Owl House we found fabulous food for all-even our one vegan and the food allergy gal. Delicious dishes, well prepared and beautifully presented, were served by accommodating and friendly staff. Definitely will be back!"

  • "I came with a large group, and although we had to squeeze a bit at the table, it wasn't uncomfortable. The restaurant felt very hip and modern inside, and the extremely vegetarian- and vegan-friendly menu reflects this. (Don't worry, they still had steak too!) Several of us had a sandwich with flank steak and portobellos, which we all liked, but the mushrooms were far more flavorful than the steak. The service was great, and they had no problem with dividing the check evenly into 7 parts. Overall, The Owl House has good food, a great cocktail menu, and wonderful service and ambiance."
