Inspired by diners the 1960s, The Original, Portland's downtown destination for all-day dining, serves up playful variations on classic menu standards.

Made from ingredients seasonal and local, and prepared with classic French techniques, our menu of eclectic American cuisine takes on regional favorites and modifies them with flavors and textures unique to the Pacific Northwest.

  • "A group of 8 of us came to Portland for a girls weekend and we were staying at the Marriott where The Original was located, mostly for convenience to downtown areas and The Original, which seemed like a great way to start the night with some dinner and cocktails. Our server (didn't catch his name but he has shoulder length hair) was HILARIOUS and so nice, treated us great and recommended delicious drinks and food. Even dealt with our crazy crowd and took pictures for us. It was a great place and I'd recommend it for sure again!"

  • "This was a quick in and out brunch spot with hot coffee and spicy bloody marys. The mushroom and swiss omelet was great, stuffed full and the mushrooms were a nice mix of varieties, which is a welcome change over simple button mushrooms. The potatoes are shredded which is not always the easiest to find in Portland so that was appreciated. A side of bacon was generous and properly cooked. One friend had a side of fruit which was generous in portion and another the NW logger which was enough food for a logger, truly."

Kids had fun shakes and root beer floats. Had fun watching the MAX trains go by. Lots of slider choices - chicken, burgers, meatloaf and fries. Delicious salad and other offerings for the grown-ups. We enjoyed it."

  • "I had been here once before and was very impressed by their cocktails made with in house syrups. This time I was less impressed by the drinks, though still good there didn't seem to be that many unique ones on the menu. Dinner was over all pretty good. My lamb came out a little cold but was cooked perfectly and paired really well with its side dished. My boyfriend enjoyed his meal as well. We really like the chicken waffle sliders. They were the perfect size for the type of food they were and tasted great. Since the waffles were so good and our hotel was so close we went back for breakfast the next morning. Breakfast was very good, the sausage and bacon were moist and the poached eggs were cooked perfectly. Would go again."

  • "Our amazing waiter was kind enough to let me try the gravy before I actually ordered it. I love southern food and am quite picky about gravy. The gravy at The Original is worth trying! Portions are well worth the money. A must if downtown for brunch."

  • "Decided to check out the Original for brunch and definitely enjoyed the food. Pricing is a bit of a hit or miss, get the breakfast burrito and you get more than what you paid for, get the french toast with crème brûlée and you will be searching for the rest of the order. Food was good, but not mind blowing. Atmosphere was very loud and made it difficult to have a conversation, so we rushed to finish so we could actually enjoy one another's company. Service seemed almost encouraged to rush customers, which is a big turnoff and when trying to flag down someone to ask where your side dishes that you ordered are, you have to stand or they wont see you while holding water pitchers lurking like vultures Not a bad 1st time, but improvement needed"

  • "So I had very high hopes for this place when I chose it for my 21st birthday brunch location because I have heard many good things from people about it. Man were they wrong, at least on this occasion anyway. First off, the glass of the mimosa I order was sticky as if someone had spilled something all over it. Secondly, and most irritatingly, the crab eggs benedict that I ordered was COLD. Not just not warm, but cold! And the crab meat that was supposed to be fresh was wet and tasteless. Fortunately, the rest of my party enjoyed themselves, but I definitely will not be coming here again."
