Diner Reviews
  • "I chose to share out 34th wedding anniversary at the Orangery, as a special surprise to my wife. I knew that not only would we receive great food, but an environment that would set the mood for a romantic evening. Our server was wonderful as was all the staff. Excellent very talented musician at the piano topped the evening. Great food, great facility, great environment started a great evening."

  • "The Orangery has the most amazing brunch I have ever had! The ribeye (and/or beef tenderloin on some Sundays) is delicious, as are all the other dishes, such as shrimp and grits, lobster mac and cheese, and spinach quiche, as well as regular breakfast items. I also love the bananas foster, the key lime pie, and the chocolate rasberry parfait for dessert. I will continue to come here often. The service is excellent, and all the employees are extremely nice. I would recommend this to everyone!"

  • "My wife and I visited for the first time and really had a enjoyable meal. The staff was profesional and vary upbeat. The cousin that we ate was Exquisid to say the least. It is a nice quite cozy atmosphere and if you havent had a chance you should make and effort to give it a change. Vary satified customer"

  • "I love the brunch at the Orangery. They have everything to choose from, the price is great, and the service is excellent. I especially love the chef hand-cutting the beef loin for the patrons, as well as the bananas foster - they are the two highlights of the meal for me. I will keep coming back."

  • "Do share the new Cheese Tray appetizer, you won't be sorry. I had my favorite, Lobster and Mushroom Crepes; so good, and the only place I know of that serves them. My partner had the two-boned (frenched), pork chop which he always enjoys. We were very pleased!"

  • "Had a lovely 5 course dinner (including amuse bouche) during restaurant week. Every bite was delicious and the portions were appropriate. Of course it is a beautiful restaurant with a great atmosphere, and the service was perfect. Our reservation was at 6 - who would have guessed that The Orangery would have half price wine during happy hour. Great experience - glad this place is back!"

  • "Glad to see Orangery take part in this worthy cause. Select menu was good. Place was full of diners. Thursday music did not fit the ambiance of this beautiful eatery. Piano on Wednesday would be nicer."

  • "In the Knoxville sea of chain restaurants, this place is a delight. Unique food, attentive service and a great happy hour. We will be back!"

  • "Why have we not been to The Orangery before now? Wonderful date night experience. Tried the Restaurant Week menu with different selections so we could each try something different. Best meal we've had ever for Restaurant Week. One of the best meals we've had anywhere. Great place for foodies!"

  • "We did the resturant week special and the portions were much smaller than normal dinning. This was not the first time we had been to orangery so we had excpected the normal size plate, the food was still good as always."

  • "I have really liked the unique atmosphere and delicious food here in the past, but did not have a good experience on my most recent visit. The service was subpar and inattentive. No introduction, food specials or wine list when the waitress arrived - just a quick can I get you a drink. No water to start off, which I suspect should be standard in a nice restaurant like this. The caesar salad was not very fresh, and my order of the chicken in a pastry puff came out as a grilled chicken, and while it was very tasty and well cooked, that's not what I ordered and it didn't seem to concern our waitress. Just tell me next time when what I order is not available, and try to correct the situation. And the staff was in appropriately loud at the end."

  • "The perfect place to celebrate a special occasion. Service is always top notch and the food is truely outstanding."

  • "As always, the food was superb. We had our requested waiter and he was awesome but slow. It appeared that he had way too many tables. Very unusual. Piano player is great. Love her music."

  • "We came for my wife's birthday. The food was great and there was live piano music. The Dark Chocolate Pannacotta was probably the nicest dessert I have ever tasted. The rich chocolate was beautifully contrasted with the intensely flavored tart cherries."

  • "Great French food with with a live pianist. My wife and I go every chance we get and we have never been disappointed. Good wine list and great attention to detail. Not quiet, if that is important to you."

  • "For special events for 23 years, we have been sitting at the same by-the-mirror table . The experience has always been highly satisfying, and the Orangery has become a family tradition. We have feasted on uniformly-great rack of lamb no less than 60 times, without a single disappointment. The salads and desserts are no less classy. The ambience is outstanding, with backwards-facing baseball caps a distinct rarity, silently frowned on by patrons in their Sunday best.. The Orangery remains one of the last bastions of low-key gentility, thanks to expertly considerate service by Kathleen and Kelly and the rest of the great staff. May they thrive forever!"

  • "Beautiful restaurant. We got there at 11:30 for lunch and felt it was an ideal time. There were few people there and we did not feel rushed. The waitress was very good and attentive. She was also very friendly. The dishes we choose were delicious. The menu for lunch is limited but we were pleased with our choices. The dessert was fabulous. We will definitely be back."

  • "Went to the Orangery with our best friends and we all had a great time. The food was excellent and our server really knew how to pay attention to us. The only part we found awkward was the placement of our wine bottles as they were on another table and we had to wait for them to be poured. I would rather pour my own at my own pace. Other than that, great evening."

  • "This was our first time dining here. We live right around the corner but always forget it is here. We attended the 5 course New Year's Eve dinner and it was INCREDIBLE! I was so impressed with everything! We definitely won't be forgetting it is here any longer! What a great restaurant!"

  • "Our annual trip to the Orangery was very good. The food was absolutely wonderful. Congratulations to you. We experienced a little crowd noise with a large wedding reception including a band, but the Orangery called us prior to give notice. Our only small disappointment was our bottle of chardonnay was not kept on ice...not a deal breaker."

  • "The Orangery has struggled over the past few years to live up to it's former reputation of being one of the best, elegant, fine dining restaurants not just in Knoxville but anywhere. Having patronized the Orangery since it opened in ~1972, it saddened us that the restaurant had lost it's way. On 12/20/13, we had a superb dinner with all details from food to service being top notch except when we entered the restaurant. We were greeted by a BLAST of live music from a party in the courtyard. To get away from this loud music, we were able to select a table at the far back of the restaurant. The Orangery MUST separate the Courtyard from the main dining room with doors that contain the noise . This is the only flaw of this wonderful gem."

  • "Dining at the Orangery was an exceptional, one-of-a-kind experience! I dined there many years ago and recalled it as one of the finest dining experiences ever. When I returned to Knoxville and tried it again, it was even better! Everything was great. Food, service, and all. The antique furniture and decore of the restaurant was absolutely great. The pianist was excellent and played a great mix of music perfect for the evening. My wife and I couldn't have enjoyed a special evening out together more. We will be back whenever we get to Knoxville."

  • "Great place for a quiet romantic dinner. My wife and I had the Chateaubriand for 2 and it was outstanding. Crab cake is also super. All and all, pricey, but worth it."

  • "Service, ambiance, etc. were all good. My complaint is the food and it's price. We started off with the Caesar salad. I am not a fan of anchovies so they were immediately removed. What was left were very small pieces of somewhat browning lettuce and an un-enticing dressing. For the main course, I ordered the Veal Marsala and my data ordered the Filet Mignon. The filet was cooked perfectly for medium-rare, but was dull. In her words, "I could've cooked a better steak for A LOT cheaper..." it was $35+. My Veal Marsala seemed soggy and more like a concoction that came from a 6$ Bertolli Meal for Two...it was $36. Overall, this restaurant somehow acquired a 4-star status and not from the quality of its food."
