Dining at The Old Inn on the Green is an extraordinary experience: fine wine, great food, the dining room illuminated by candles, the murmur of conversation from the other room. As Chef and Owner, Peter Platt is always firmly in charge, working to create innovative and memorable meals that are an event unto themselves. Over the past several years, the Old Inn has developed the tradition of serving a Prix Fixe menu - each Saturday evening a different four-course meal is prepared, and guests are offered a choice of two main courses as well as a choice of dessert. On other nights, the Inn offers a well rounded menu of a la carte items, with specials which change daily. The wine list is graced with a array of thoughtfully selected estate bottled wines from France, California and Italy. The dining rooms are lit entirely by candlelight and there are fireplaces in each room. Comfortably worn windsor chairs and mahogany tavern tables furnish the dining rooms.Continued

There is no electricity in the dining rooms so the candlelight enhances the beautiful inn and the setting. We had a fabulous salad, wonderfully cooked short ribs and divine desserts. Always a pleasure and a not-to-be-missed spot."

  • "Chef Peter Platt never dissapoints, the food is always delicious and perfectly cooked. I highly recommend the tasting menu but you cannot go wrong ordering A La Carte. Sommelier/Manager James is a gentleman and his knowledge of wine combined with their extensive cellar is perfect for any occasion. In my most recent visit I came with a party or 10, all of whom work in the food industry and they were all blown away. We all stayed at the Inn(They have about 10-12 rooms) as well so we could thoroughly enjoy the experience and we most certainly did. This place is perfect for a special occasion or romantic getaway and they also have a very generous prix-fixe on certain weekdays. By far one of my favorite restaurants in the world."

  • "If Michelin were in this neck of the woods, they would probably award a star for the virtuoso kitchen. The candlelit dining room, fireplace and ancient country inn ambiance are magical While our waiter was personable and professional, his two assistants needed more training and focus. You will find some fine choices on the wine list, but not at all price points. Strong on American wines, the European list is uneven and perhaps geared to "expense account" types. They seem unaware that there are Burgundies that don't require a mortgage payment. My Italian and Spanish friends would be annoyed at the cursory nod to their repertoire. The quality of the cooking is such that the above failings can be forgiven."

  • "Lets just say I am a foodie, a snob, and the pickiest palette in New England. The amuse bouche was a great start with lobster on endive and I forgot the other bite. I ordered The diver scallops and poached lobster appetizer while my husband had the sun choke soup. Both amazing, but the saffron purée that accompanied mine was a little sweet which cut into the savoriness of the dish. Then, the chef sent out a roasted beet tarte tartin which we licked the plate clean. My husband got the seared Ahi tuna and I got the pasta with roasted mushrooms, tomatoes, and goat cheese. For dessert, because there is always room for sweets after dinner, I ordered the chocolate fallen cake and he got the pumpkin cake, both were amazing. best dinner in U.S."

  • "Beautiful setting in historic village in historic inn with great, great food and perfectly matched wines. The menu showcases the highest quality meats and fish done in classic dishes. Seared foie gras was excellent but almost the star was a tiny beet tartin -- that was truly memorable. This is not avant garde food so go expecting delicious but not extraordinary. This is not to be negative in any way. The only issue, however, is the price: the tasting menu with wine pairing for two was way over $400. We have no issue spending that amount and more for a special dinner but it needs to be exciting and memorable. But it's such a charming place that we would be happy to return for the candle lit rooms alone."

Warm duck breast on spinach salad was unique and delicious, the rack of lamb perfect, and dessert was some of the best we've had in years. Lightest pastry stuffed with the freshest fruit. Worth the p;rice."
