A word from The Old Inn On The Green
Dining at The Old Inn on the Green is an extraordinary experience: fine wine, great food, the dining room illuminated by candles, the murmur of conversation from the other room. As Chef and Owner, Peter Platt is always firmly in charge, working to create innovative and memorable meals that are an event unto themselves. Over the past several years, the Old Inn has developed the tradition of serving a Prix Fixe menu - each Saturday evening a different four-course meal is prepared, and guests are offered a choice of two main courses as well as a choice of dessert. On other nights, the Inn offers a well rounded menu of a la carte items, with specials which change daily. The wine list is graced with a array of thoughtfully selected estate bottled wines from France, California and Italy. The dining rooms are lit entirely by candlelight and there are fireplaces in each room. Comfortably worn windsor chairs and mahogany tavern tables furnish the dining rooms.

  • What a wonderful surprise

What a wonderful surprise it was to our party of 4 when we arrived at the Inn. We were there for a 2 night stay to enjoy the fall scenery. We were amazed at the food that came out of the kitchen and the wonderful service that accompanied it. In the 1760 ambiance of the Inn with "candle only" lighting we were treated to a 5 star dinner by a very concerned staff that could do nothing but please. The menu is over the top and the wine recommendations were spot on.All the popular foodie chef's have nothing on Peter Platt here. A wonderful experience!

Ultimately, we had a marvelous meal, with one caveat. We went for a special occasion and arrived punctually for our reservation. Then we waited. And waited. And waited. We grew quite frustrated and hungry, standingbin the middle of a busy bar. That said, we were comped a bottle of wine for our travails, and tried the chef's tasting menu. It was out of this world. Farmhouse, candlelit ambience, an attentive waiter, unforgettable food.

This restaurant has always been one of our favorites in the Berkshires. IT IS NOT THE SAME PLACE ANY LONGER!! We had an awful server, the food was just plain average to not good at all. There was no Manager making sure things were going the right way!!!!! Our server....NOT well trained at all, stopped by the table TO ASK US......IF WE HAD GOTTEN OUR FOOD YET.....AND THEN IT CONTINUED TO TAKE FOREVER. When we asked we wre told this place has new owner.....if we had to guess.....a new and inexperienced chef as well. We had an awful dinner and terrible experience.

The Old Inn On The Green has become the "go-to" high end restaurant in the Berkshires. This is our second year and the attention to detail, the degree of cooking sophistication, and the service in this quaint and authentic roadside Inn have only improved. While there was no special menu for children, there were no problems with the dishes that we ordered for our eleven year old. The wines, even by the glass, were superb. We will look forward to next year with wonderful anticipation.

A quiet, colonial, candle-lit gem. A bit hard to find -- just keep going after the GPS and cell phone reception give up. About 10 minutes later you will actually get there. The chef's tasking menu was spectacular. Appropriately small portions of a string of absolutely delightful dishes. Flavorful, interesting, and well-matched with the accompanying wines. We try to come every time we visit the Berkshires.

We were there years ago, and had a great meal. We were back in the area and went out of our way to dine there again. First they put us in a room with no A/C. We asked to move and they moved us to a room with A/C. If they had the table available why didn't they put us there in the first place. The waiter we had must have wanted to be anywhere but at the restaurant. Very unpleasant. Having said all that the inn is rustic and the food is very good.

We have returned several times and the food is consistently excellent. The prix fixe menu, when available, is truly a superior value, but the a la carte menu offers some delcious detours, so it's a win-win. Service can be relaxed to slow, but you're in the Berkshires, so relax and enjoy the candelight. The wine list has some exquisite choices but tends towards the expensive side. No fear, even the inexpensive bottles are perfection. BTW, we stayed overnight this time and not only was the room absolutely terrific, but the breakfast pastries in the morning tasted like they came directly from the oven of your favorite Parisian boulangerie...flakiest most delicious croissant I've ever had in the USA. This place is an absolute gem. GO!!!

We ate here two years ago and thought the food was fabulous. Our recent visit was disappointing. My appetizer (spinach salad with duck confit) was less than average, entree of rack of lamb was good, but one chop was overcooked for medium rare, and accompanyment was poor = my potato was burnt. Desert-linzertart, very good. Certainly didn't measure up for a $75 fixed price meal! Didn't complain because we had to get to a concert, but they've lost us!

A summer's eve dinner was delightful and delicious. The menu was interesting and creative. Everything was fresh and well prepared and beautifully presented. Staff members were all informative and helpful and pleasant. We ate on the porch which on a mid-summer night was pleasant and provided a naturally well-lit extension of daytime as opposed to the darker more formal dining rooms. The Old Inn on the Green is a perfect spot for a special celebration or a special treat.

We felt pampered in every way at the Old Inn On the Green. We enjoyed canapes and soup selections, compliments of the chef, which were all excellent. Salads were fresh and flavorful, and our entrees of a gourmet chicken dish and halibut featured exceptional taste and tenderness. Presentation was everything you would expect from a gourmet restaurant. The halibut was almost suitable for framing.:-) There were many delicious dessert options, but we needed to opt for the lighter homemade gelato sampler, which was outstanding. We will undoubtedly return when we are in the Berkshires again.

We were celebrating our anniversary and I was looking forward to sharing a romantic evening with my husband. With great anticipation, we arrived at the Inn and were pleased with our table. However, the two couples seated at the table behind us carried on a loud conversation the entire evening. We may as well have been sitting in a diner. So, although the food and service were excellent, I left feeling a bit disappointed.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

I brought my family here to celebrate my nephew's graduation. A classic New England candelit Inn, with the bonus of some understated contemporary decorations which made the ambience even more relaxed. We sat in a shared room. My meal ran from excellent to so-so, the chicken was the tenderest I've had and the pickled vegetables a delicious and lively contrast, but the profiteroles had gone hard. We had a couple of vegetarians in our party, and despite the Inn's announcement that their needs would be happily accommodated I think they felt left out. Worst was that we were seated next to a very loud group against which we fought a losing battle to be heard.

This was the first time that i had the week night prix fixe dinner - wonderful meal that is so reasonably priced.

    Dined on 5/2/2012
We had a lovely dinner off of the Welcome Menu which is available on certain nights (see the website) and that made it affordable for us. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was romantic with candlelight only in the dining room and the service was very good. The only error they made was to give me an old wine list with old prices so that my bill for the wine was higher than listed on that old wine list. I pointed it out and they corrected my bill, so all ended well. I am looking forward to another meal there, despite the 50 minute drive. it was worth it.
