Dining at The Old Inn on the Green is an extraordinary experience: fine wine, great food, attentive, knowledgeable service and the dining rooms illuminated only by candle light. Chef and Owner Peter Platt, along with his team, work to create innovative and memorable meals that are an event unto themselves. Currently, we are offering a $85 prix fixe menu with 5-6 choices per course every night we are open. The hours for dinner are Wednesday through Sunday 5:30 pm to 9:00 pm for both indoors and in an all new screened outdoor room. The wine list is graced with an array of thoughtfully selected estate bottled wines from France, California, Italy and around the world. In addition to candlelight, in the colder months there are wood burning fireplaces in each room. A copy of our current menu can be found on the home page of our website www.oldinn.com.

We have been coming for many years and always been happy with our visits. This time was disappointing. We have always found the food very good. This time the halibut was tasteless and seemed to have been frozen. The appetizers were also bland. The raspberry clafoutis was very good. It was also unfortunate that it was a very hot evening and it being a very old inn there’s understandably no air conditioning but a few fans and some more open windows might have made the experience more pleasant.

Among the excellent restaurants within 1 hour's drive from Great Barrington Massachusetts, this is the best. That includes restaurants that have very high official ratings--The Old Inn on the Green deserves top marks in any rating system. The ambiance is intimate and quiet--there is no background music whatsoever so that it is easy to enjoy quiet conversation with dining companions. The prix fixe meals are generous but do not assume gluttony, and everything is beautifully prepared and presented. The staff is very nice and thoughtful, keeping in mind preferences (dietary and otherwise). It's the go-to place for special occasions; while there we ran into one other couple celebrating an anniversary and a friend who was having a birthday party. There were apparently other groups in the same categories.
