Diner Reviews
  • "We had made dinner reservations for 7:30 pm. Upon arrival the unfriendly hostess advised that the table is still being setup. 15 minutes later, the hostess updated us and stated that it will be another 5-10 minutes to finishing setting up. We had to wait over 25 minutes just to be seated. No one at the restaurant acknowledged our special occasion, which was our two year wedding anniversary."

  • "We were lucky to get a window table to appreciate the view on Vancouver. The food was excellent. James, our server, gave us very good advice and description of the food. As it is rather expensive, I would go back anytime for a special occasion."

  • "We have not been to the Observatory for a few years and there were some notable changes. It may have been because we chose a Monday night to go but the service was not up to par (wine did not arrive until well after food was served, furniture being moved around us) and the restaurant was very noisy, there were a lot of kids under 8 years old and people were eating wearing t-shirts. My relative from Europe had been expecting a bit more. The view was stunning as usual and the wine list had good variety and quality choices for reasonable prices. The food was exceptional and the servers were very knowledgable. My uncle is a foodie and dines monthly in the best restaurants in Liechtenstein and raved about the food and presentation."

  • "We booked weeks in advance to get in in this experience. We didn't have much of a view from our table at the back of the restaurant but were moved to a window table when one vacated. The food was great and the experience overal was fantastic."

  • "The flavour of the food was very good. The wine list was ridiculous, with 23 (long) pages and up to $2000 bottles, for this location. The menu would benefit from an adoption of items that would put it more in line with places like Milestones, Earls and the Cactus Club. They could be "Foodier" that is better, than those popular venues. In my opinion the restaurant has ego problems. The service was below par to the prices. Waitress was patronizing, correcting my pronunciation of "Clafoutis" and not as attentive as would be expected at a place that thinks it can justify the prices charged. Would not go back (for the restaurant)."

  • "Our dining room server was a lovely young fellow that went to the trouble of asking the kitchen questions we had. The food was exquisite and unlike a lot of vertical food restaurants, there was enough between appetizers and entrees that neither of us had room for dessert."

  • "The view is great, but you have to be absolutely rich to enjoy it at all."

  • "For a one of a kind dining experience - this is it. Presentation of the meal was well done. The service always provides a little extra."

  • "Our experience at The Observatory was very disappointing. We started out well but it went downhill very fast. Overall the service was non attentive and very slow. The food courses were too far apart from each other, and we at one point thought they forgot about us. Until I realized all the other tables seemed to be waiting for their food. It didn't have the flow it should have had. The appetizers were very good. The halibut main course was over cooked in my opinion and the sides didn't go with it, too much going on. The beef tenderloin ordered medium rare was also over cooked. The view is spectacular but the rest leaves a lot to be desired."

  • "Who knew that you could not only eat at a place with a fantastic view, but have outrageously great food and service!"
    Dined on 7/25/2014
  • "I made two reservations, one for adults and one for the young people. They put us together on a table at the back. I had specifically asked to be near the window for our out of town guests but they didn't do that. I saw other tables open that our group of four could have taken but instead we were at the back with no view. I was very upset and disappointed."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "The food was expensive and disapponting. The main entre in our case tenderloin had no vegetables, few potatoes, very few and nothing else. The tenderloin was smal and tasted tenderized and was not great. We had not been there for a few years and remembered it as better. It was my wife's 66th birthday and on my reservation I asked for a window table. It was apparent the hostess who we had to wait 5 minutes for had not read our request and showed little interest in us. There was an empty table by the window but we were not offered it. It took forever to get our dinner. The foursome beside us were finsihed as we got our meal."
    Dined on 7/22/2014
  • "The food menu is quite limited, unlike the extensive wine list. Presentations are creative, but portion sizes small. Elaborate explanations of each course tended to oversell rather than add to the dining experience. The daily special was by far the best choice. Somewhat pretentious, overall."

  • "Fabulous food in a perfect location. Annoyed table not ready at correct time but service and food made up for that. Crusted lamb was delicious and I enjoyed being told about the different foods on my plate."

  • "Requested and received excellent view table for enjoyment of visitor from abroad. Creative gourmet menu priced accordingly."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "The portions and selection of menu items were both limited. I do not consider this good value, even given the wonderful ambience."
    Dined on 7/17/2014
  • "The food was excellent, but considering the abundance of wonderful food in Vancouver, I found the pricing to be slightly excessive. Otherwise the location, ambiance, service, winelist, and everything else was quite spot on. Definitely a great spot for special occasions."

  • "Fine dinning with a great view of Vancouver! Excellent service and delicious meals!"

  • "We had a great evening Went up early, all the better to take in the attractions My brother is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, so he looked horrified when he saw the menu nouvelle cuisine, with a bouche amuse to start-we had the lamb and the beef tenderloin-beautifully presented, delicious-my brother loved it all For three of us, one entree each, and one bottle of wine-it came to around $210 including tax and tip-I thought it was worth every penny-it is over a hundred dollars for three just to get up the mountain and it made for a memorable evening-even cheaper if you don't drink If you want something with a WOW factor-this would be it"

  • "We are foodies and thought this restaurant would serve okay food but nothing great, being as it is a tourist attraction. We were so wrong! The food and service were absolutely fantastic. If you are dining in the restaurant the gondola is free so it also is excellent value for money. We really wanted to see the two grizzlies and we were weren't disappointed with that either. To cap it off we saw a wonderful sunset and our decent down the mountain at night with all the lights was magic. 10/10 you must not miss this."

  • "The observatory is nice, but the downside is waiting in the bar next door full of sweaty hikers. They should bring a change of clothes, and boy the BO smell on the tram going up left from departing hikers. They should fumigate it as the nice dining restaurant and smelly tram do not mix at all."

  • "We, my wife and I, were celebrating a special occasion and chose the Observatory for that purpose. We enjoyed out dinner and were treated very well by the staff. The view of the City was fabulous and we were able to reflect on some great times, now past but remembered with fondness. Thank you for helping us to celebrate."

  • "We recently had a memorable evening at the Observatory Restaurant.....our meals were delicious and uniquely presented ..however my halibut dish was slightly overcooked....I did not say anything because it was still delicious but did leave a large portion of the overcooked halibut on my plate. They were extremely concerned about this and took the cost of the entire meal off our bill despite my not having said anything about it. they clearly take great pride in their food and offer exceptional customer service. this is even more impressive to me because as a popular scenic and touristy restaurant they could easily just rely on their magnificent view. They have won my loyalty and will look for opportunities to go back.."

  • "This was a very important day for me and the women I proposed to that same day. My now fiance is a vegetarian and there just wasn't anything on the menu that she could eat or the things she could weren't appetizing to her. We let our waitress know and she asked the chef if something could be done and they constructed a wonderful gourmet vegetarian entree. Thank you."

  • "The observatory is an unexpected gem on Grouse mountain and since dining there gives you a free Alpine experience(which costs $43 alone) it is basically an amazing meal for the same cost as admission without the meal. You hVe to go here. The service was excellent and the scallops with pork belly were superb. The food is full of flavors and presentation is stunning."

  • "When we made this reservation we made a point of informing them that we were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. Nothing was said by any of the staff the entire evening. And our server was not only clueless about the wines on the wine list he acted like he did - DANGEROUS! Incredible view and the presentation of the food was fantastic. Better training of the wait staff and hostess would greatly enhance the experience here."

  • "There was nothing lacking from this dining experience. The view was incredible, the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful, and the food was a work of art. Honestly, it looked too good to eat. A tastebud sensation. We were a party of 6 and between us tried most of the things on the menu. Everything was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "The Halibut was overcooked. The trout and squid were delicious but the risotto was very bland. The kids pastas were well put together. The woman next to us was delivered the same meal twice but both were not correct and she left without eating. Given the price point, it was not the foodie experience I was expecting."

  • "My husband and I received a gift certificate to Grouse Mountain and decided to use it at The Observatory. What a great choice!!! The service was great, food was amazing, and view was spectacular! It was a beautiful summer evening - we couldn't have asked for better weather or a clearer view of Vancouver! The complimentary bread was delicious and our appetizer arrived very quickly! Both of us enjoyed our main dish. They didn't have the vegetarian dish that is on their menu available the night we went, but their substitute was absolutely amazing! Presentation of both dishes was beautiful. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "Food nicely prepared and picture worthy. Serving staff could have been a bit warmer but good service nonetheless. Amazing view and fun things to see with the lumberjack show and the bird demonstration before hand. Be prepared to set aside a good amount of money, this is not for the faint of heart!"

  • "What an experience! Dinner was incredible with extremely helpful and friendly staff. The view is second to none and anyone who visits or lives in the Vancouver area should make sure to dine here. It is a whole experience to be so high up on top of a mountain and overlook the stunning city of Vancouver. I will be back for sure."

  • "Very good for people who wants to come on the top of the mountain for free but if you are looking for a very good dinner, forget it! Food too salty, try to be "gastronomic" (i'm French so i know Gastronomic food) and an entree = price of the cable-car 39$ +tax +tips But the view is amazing and the decoration of the restaurant is cute."
