I had venison for appetizer, the duck dish for main entree, and the goat cheese cheese cake for desert. The appetizer and the entree were good but they lacked more flavor. The duck medallions were too salty and for come reason they were cold unlike the rest of the plate. Goat cheese cheese cake was probably the best out of the three. I would not recommend this place if you are expecting an upscale fine dining experience. The best thing about it is definitely the view you get.

Love the complimentary gondola ride that is from the courtesy of our dinner at the Observatory. We got to see the grizzly bears' habitats, we watched the sunset, then we went in for our dinner. The view was nice, but the food was only average.

This was a great spot for celebrating a memorable birthday. Be sure to reserve ahead of time so you don't have to pay for the gondola. We went a bit early so we could walk around a bit and see the bird show. That was impressive too. The view is beautiful and I was surprised that our food was so good. Often I find places with really nice views don't put the same effort into their food but at the Observatory everything was beautifully presented and tasted delicious.

We had a splendid view over the skyline of downtown Vancouver and enjoyed the beautifully arranged courses. The use of local products and fancy ideas such as sprinkling volcanic ashes over a dish delighted us. The prices are more than justified for the good service and the quality of the food. We would certainly recommend this location to anyone who would like to celebrate a special day.

Had my brother and his family in town and decided to take them up Grouse for the evening and have dinner at The Observatory. I had not been there for a number of years and we were all blown away by how incredible the service and food was. Definitely a memorable occasion and it certainly won't be as long for me to go back!! Prices seem a bit pricey but in hindsight well worth it based on quality of the food and professionalism of he wait staff.

We chose the Observatory to take our guests from Winnipeg to enjoy the mountain view while dining and that they did. We started with the crab cakes, tartare, and green salad. All delicious. The halibut was delicious as well as the goat cheesecake. However even for fine dining the wine list was a little pricey. The service was fantastic and very personable.

This place has amazing views of Vancouver. A must see AND your entree costs as much as the gondola ride up - so a good value as well. Wait staff are phenomenal, wine list is HUGE and fun drinks as well. My only complaint is the food was too fancy and the wait staff had to explain it when your dish was served. Had the daily special of short ribs and they could've used more flavor and less pretentious sauces. All and all a must do for special occasions or anytime you want a GREAT view of the city. Our 7:30 reservation was perfect for watching the sun set over the city.

This was the worst service ...the waiter knew nothing about the wine list...had to ask if there was any bread....never checked on us to see if we need anything else...had to ask the hostess for our check....only tipped him because it was so sad....I'm confident this has been corrected!

A classy facility, except for the fact the washroom is shared with transient visitors. The outside of the door was "sticky" to the touch, which left a very poor perception of the reason why. It felt as though the paint was breaking down, or hikers were leaving remnants of sticky hands from energy drinks, while pushing to go in and wash up. I expect more attention to these details. Also had a careless error on bill, where a drink was added that was not ordered at our table. Considering it was a quiet night due to weather, begs to question "Why"

We had reservations for 3 on a week night. The view was superb, but the food and service were beyond anything we expected. Our waiter was glad to enable us to split 2 appetizers. Both the chicken terrine and crab appetizers were beautifully presented and incredibly tasty. Our 3 main courses were the Fraser duck, the halibut and the pork. Again, each dish was a feast for the eyes and the taste buds. We had dessert coffees as well as cocktails - and the beverages were perfectly crafted. Our finale' was the chocolate cherry bombe. It was a showpiece, but we managed to devour it with great relish. The staff were pleasant & well informed of the menu - we never lacked for attention, but didn't feel we needed to rush through.

This restaurant is a wonderful place to go with visitors to Vancouver. The view is spectacular, the setting unique, the ambience elegant, the service excellent and food exquisite. The cost for all entrees are $39. All the appetizers are $16. The portions of the dinners are, how should i put it, make sure you eat before you go. The dishes had so many different tastes it was an assault on your taste buds. They had no right combing all those ingredients. I would never recommend this experience to anyone. Maybe the reason is that they comp your ticket up to the top, but you have to order an entree per person. I also know that they only have 1 kitchen to serve the entire dining experience. So the kitchen will put out a burger and then put out a beef tenderloin dish. With all the money they make you think that they would have separate kitchens.

We ordered halibut, duck, and beef. Each plate had a beautiful presentation of foods and flavors. But too much presentation and not enough food. We couldn't find an appetizer that appealed to us. The chicken sounded good until we realized it would be covered with organ meats. While we had hoped for cheesecake for dessert, we realized it was made from goat cheese. Dessert and goat cheese don't belong in the same sentence. The restaurant is a beautiful venue with a fabulous view. Service was excellent. Each offering on the menu is set up to challenge the palate. I prefer a restaurant that offers a mix of basic dishes and avant-gard dishes. When every dish is set up to be a challenge, I start longing for something I can recognize.

The service was extremely slow. Two groups who came in ten minutes after us had finished being served at least 15 mins ahead of us. The server told us that there was some issues in the kitchen. That should have affected everyone and not just us. The food is over priced in my opinion. Secondly, our reservation was at 7 pm. We arrived 5 minutes early and were told to wait till 7 as the tables were being prepared. From what i saw, there were 3 tables available by the window ready to be seated. ??????

The food was great! The view was amazing and in the beginning so was the service. Then as the evening progress the service decreased and we often were looking for our server and waiting for dinner, dessert and eventually the bill because we don't know where she went. Wheb my husband asked her to describe the wine he wanted ie which would be better with his entree, it was very obvious that the she did not know the answer and was trying to think of an answer to the wines. When she was there she looked distracted and not really wanting to be there. Other servers were delivering her food, taking away our plates, and checking in on us. So that really took away from the experience.

We have not been to the Observatory for a few years and there were some notable changes. It may have been because we chose a Monday night to go but the service was not up to par (wine did not arrive until well after food was served, furniture being moved around us) and the restaurant was very noisy, there were a lot of kids under 8 years old and people were eating wearing t-shirts. My relative from Europe had been expecting a bit more. The view was stunning as usual and the wine list had good variety and quality choices for reasonable prices. The food was exceptional and the servers were very knowledgable. My uncle is a foodie and dines monthly in the best restaurants in Liechtenstein and raved about the food and presentation.

The flavour of the food was very good. The wine list was ridiculous, with 23 (long) pages and up to $2000 bottles, for this location. The menu would benefit from an adoption of items that would put it more in line with places like Milestones, Earls and the Cactus Club. They could be "Foodier" that is better, than those popular venues. In my opinion the restaurant has ego problems. The service was below par to the prices. Waitress was patronizing, correcting my pronunciation of "Clafoutis" and not as attentive as would be expected at a place that thinks it can justify the prices charged. Would not go back (for the restaurant).

Our experience at The Observatory was very disappointing. We started out well but it went downhill very fast. Overall the service was non attentive and very slow. The food courses were too far apart from each other, and we at one point thought they forgot about us. Until I realized all the other tables seemed to be waiting for their food. It didn't have the flow it should have had. The appetizers were very good. The halibut main course was over cooked in my opinion and the sides didn't go with it, too much going on. The beef tenderloin ordered medium rare was also over cooked. The view is spectacular but the rest leaves a lot to be desired.

The food was expensive and disapponting. The main entre in our case tenderloin had no vegetables, few potatoes, very few and nothing else. The tenderloin was smal and tasted tenderized and was not great. We had not been there for a few years and remembered it as better. It was my wife's 66th birthday and on my reservation I asked for a window table. It was apparent the hostess who we had to wait 5 minutes for had not read our request and showed little interest in us. There was an empty table by the window but we were not offered it. It took forever to get our dinner. The foursome beside us were finsihed as we got our meal.
