The Oakwood Canadian BistroAmazing...best place ever!!Whenever we travel to larger centers we do our homework on Urbanspoon, TripAdvisor and local food write ups to find those special places that everyone loves to go to for great food. So far we have sought out the best of what Toronto, Montreal, New York, Regina, Calgary, Edmonton, the Okanogan and Vancouver had to offer. As far as we are concerned the Oakwood Canadian Bistro is the "Best of the Best"! Every dish was superb and Laurel's service and coaching for our experience was equally as good! Congratulations!!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest dish: fried octopus

The Leo was a really cool drink; their spin on a root beer float
Definitely recommend!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMthis was our second visit, this was our second visit, and will soon be there again. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff.....6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic dining experience!Loved pretty much everything about this place. Innovative food, extremely well-executed, great service, nice atmosphere, very reasonable prices. The duck cannelloni with shaved foie gras was to die for, but everything we ordered was delicious. My only small complaint is that the high stools were not super comfortable for someone with short legs. A minor quibble - we'll definitely be back!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFun Local spot GREAT food!!!Once again - AMAZING!
The menu changes every season and its equally good every time.
This time around -
Kale Salad!!!! Mussels were fresh and delish, Octupus was super tasty - Bacon Mayo? amazing, and the tuna dish with Rice Crackers apparently made from scratch in the kitchen- So good!! The Cornish Hen - Beautiful presentation, The pasta was rich and was so good with a hint of lemon???, and the trio of Masons - Yes that is the glorious deserts that are served in mason jars- To DIE for!!!
I also love the laid back vibe - Its not annoying trendy like Gastown or Yaletown despite its cool interior. Its An awesome restaurant, local fave and full of happy people!
I definitely recommend this place!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMstarted with a bitestarted with a bite ........... and just got better and better have enjoyed two meals at the oakwood and both have been extremely tasty !!!!! Compliments to the chef and staff
ps wanted the smores dessert so you should keep that on the menu5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMarvelous! This was a perfect place for celebration. The food was superb - both original, wholesome and delicious - made all the more delightful by the sharing of each dish. Our server was warm, charming and gracefully efficient. The atmosphere was both comfortable and wonderfully convivial. All five of us are savouring the memory. Great fun!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe keep bringing friends andWe keep bringing friends and colleagues to The Oakwood and everyone always raves about it. Outstanding food, great prices, and inviting atmosphere. Best poutine in the country!
You won't be disappointed.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBest kept secretOakwood is an absolute neighbourhood gem! I'd love to keep it secret but the food is absolutely incredible. Each dish is well conceived, beautifully presented and tastes incredible. The staff, on each of our visits, have been friendly without being overly attentive. They all seem to have excellent knowledge of the food and ingredients and seem to have a real feel for each of their customers needs.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA wonderful discovery! My wife & I had been looking for a place to spend our anniversary and had heard good things about the Oakwood. The decor has been very well-chosen and ambiance is comfortably Canadian without being over the top. A very cool space!
I was impressed by both the wine list and their inventive cocktail menu (I recommend the deliciously clever 'Smoking Barrel') and the dinner menu was very intriguing as well. The portions are designed to be shared and we ordered two larger dishes (the arctic char & the flatiron steak) and one smaller one (the fried octopus) which were all delicious and enough to satisfy. We ended with the maple lemon meringue for a sumptuous dessert and were sold on this being a new favourite. A fantastic evening out!5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMIndie Restaurant Done Right! Finally!! An indie restaurant with great food and amazing service!!!
I'm so tired of being snubbed and rudely (not) waited on by servers, hostesses and managers in the new wave of indie restaurants. Oakwood is not one of those - the food is wonderful and the service matches it. I went twice this past week, for dinner and for Mother's Day brunch. The dinner was very good - beautiful plating, although the delicate plating had made the food lukewarm to slightly cold. The brunch was divine and the service from the servers to the managers was unbelievable. I'm so happy this place is around - can't wait to try their new innovations!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time to restaurant butFirst time to restaurant but read many good reviews. Came on a Friday night with some friends. Was seated at the communal table in the middle of the restaurant.
Like other reviews, the menu items are meant for sharing. We ordered mussels, warm kale salad and poutine to start. These were all highly rated based on previous reviews and they are correct. All 3 portions were reasonable size and could be shared. Tried the tagliatelle. The portion was much smaller and was just okay. Ordered dessert (trio of mason). This is a good choice for those who can't decide as it has all 3 desserts from the menu. Overall good food and nice ambiance of the restaurant.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot - plan to be back.Great spot - plan to be back.
