Diner Reviews
  • "We were recently at the Oak Room for a Sunday morning brunch, and it is by far the best brunch in Louisville. The food was wonderful, with a good variety, and the service was impeccable. We will definitely be back."

  • "We had a delicious and beautifully served dinner at the Oakroom. Service was excellent without being stuffy. The sommelier was helpful, and the wine list is exceptional. Most of our party ate fish, which was perfectly prepared and moist. This is a wonderful special occasion restaurant in a classic old hotel. Highly recommended."

  • "Southern hospitality at its finest. A Legacy for the finest of Louisville and well deserved."

  • "The food was exceptional. A little different than I expected but great none the less. The service could not have been any better. They walked us right through the five course sampler. Troy and his assistant where very knowledgable regarding the ingredients. They had a way of being very proffessional and down to earth at the same team. The service team was made for each other. The atmoshpere is very calming and slow. If you are looking for a upbeat, loud evening this is not the place for you evening. It is expensive but you know that going in."

  • "We recently ate dinner at the Oakroom Saturday night. Everything is outstanding. The food was wonderful. The service was excellent. Great wine list. Traditional Kentucky atmosphere with a lot of dark oak walls. We ordered drinks before dinner and the bartender came out to our table to make sure he knew exactly what we wanted. The sommelier came to our table to describe the desert wines. We will return whenever possible. Not a place to go on a budget though."

  • "Menu changed and I truly had trouble finding anything I liked. No real robust oaky cab by the glass on the menu ....very limited Caine by the glass me u as well. Servers were good though and dining room beautiful. The tri if icresM for dessert was excellent."

  • "have eaten here several times great place with great servive. This time the food was not quite as great as previous but was still better than any other place"

  • "This was one of the best dinners I have ever had! The service was wonderful. The food was fabulous. The history of the hotel itself is fantastic. The wine list was extensive and the waiter's suggestion was spot on. When we arrived, we even got a little history tour (although they weren't busy at that time so I can't say that is normal). The Oakroom is truly a gem and I will most certainly be going back!"

  • "The Oakroom met every expectation of ours. Food was excellent and it was so nice to have such good attention to detail by the staff. The food presentation was just beautiful."

  • "This is our second year in a row dining at The Oakroom in Louisville while attending NFAA's Indoor National Archery Tournament. Wonderful menu, exceptional service and the complimentary surprises, between courses, from the Chef make this truly a great experience. As always ask for the bread pudding and coffee service at the end of the meal. You'll go away with a renewed sense of what it is to have coffee "poured" into one's cup."

  • "1) The service was not quite as good as I expected. My coffee was not refilled as quickly as I would have liked -- my coffee cup was empty a couple of times before being refilled, and once we had to ask for more coffee. It was not busy, so the wait staff could have been a bit more attentive. However, I must add that the main wait staff person assigned to our table, an older gentleman, was exquisite in his demeanor and hospitality. 2) I expected a more formal reaction from a younger wait staff person when I thanked him for removing my plate. Rather than saying "you're welcome" or "my pleasure", his reply was "no problem". I find this reaction less than gracious."

  • "My wife started with the duo of foie gras. She kindly shared a bite, a true sign she still loves me. I had the seared tuna, I love her and shared too. Our server was Jill, Jordan assisted her; both professional, inviting, without the stuffy table side presence; a hard balance I have not experienced at a few elite US restaurants in Chicago, IL and Yountville, CA. The sommelier, Julie - awesome! My wife described preferences, Julie took time to discuss and guide; really enjoyed our conversations. Entrees - 3 Little Pigs - "Amazing" & Wagyu - "Perfect"! We appreciated the flavors and execution Chef Patrick delivered, but he also took time to describe the courses in person; very genuine. Dessert - Cheesecake and cookies. A memorable experience!"

  • "I understand The Oakroom is the only AAA 5 Diamond Restaurant in all of Kentucky and I can see how the earned it. They are setup as a high class experience without the pretentiousness of similar places in New York or Los Angeles. I was warmly greeted by the hostess and was quickly whisked away to my luxurious table. The service staff was incredibly attentive but certainly not overbearing. The food was exquisite with the chef playing with convention on several of the dishes I had including the Ciopino. Delicately prepared with plump scallop and creamy mussels and a tomato jus to die for. The sommelier paired it with wonderful vermouth of all things that was simply divine. This is a world class menu, world class service and more."

  • "I put the Oalroom in my top five brunch locations, as well as brunches, after touring the work. Not only can the traditionalist find excellent fare, the foodies can enjoy a plethora of wide-ranging tastes and excellently prepared more typical items. The service is beyond comparison, adding to the enjoyment of the experience. I would defy anyone to find more exquisite and tasty desserts at any brunch location! Bravo, Oakroom chefs, staff and servers!"

  • "This was quite possibly the best dinner experience we have ever had. Out-freaking-standing. Really. I'll never forget it and can't wait to come back to Louisville. You've set the bar very high, Oakroom."

  • "Can't think what anyone interested in fine cuisine would want more for a brunch! Not only are the foods delish, but attractively served. The variety is amazing, but still provides staples such as oysters, shrimp cocktail, salmon, & omelettes, as well as delicious meats at the cutting board and some surprises, e.g. alligator stew. The dessert tables have to be seen to be believed. The Oakroom is a treasure, and the service is equal to the venue and the elegant atmosphere. Bravo!"

  • "The food tasted good before. That's why we always come here for brunch. But we felt disappointed this time. The food variety is still adequate, but the food quality has declined. I hope they can improve it in the future."

  • "walking up the hostess was very professional in greeting both myself as well as my date, we were then lead to our table and within the minute were greeted by our captain then the mixologist then the assistant waiter to provide us with water. I knew I was in for a special night just based on these first encounters. The food definitely did not disappoint, five course meal executed perfectly by the kitchen it was apparent that the staff was incredibly well trained."

  • "Dining at the Oakroom for Brunch is an experience you'll certainly enjoy. The service is excellent and the food is outstanding. We enjoy going there at a few times a year and like to bring along another couple so they can enjoy a great meal as well. My wife's favorite item is the bourbon glazed bread pudding. She always save room for a LARGE scoop to finish off a wonderful meal. Me, I like ALL of the items equally. Everything is great!"

  • "We were visiting Louisville for the weekend and a friend said we had to try the Oakroom. So we made reservations a month in advance for the brunch. It was so worth it. The spread of food was amazing. They had something for everyone. The service was top notch. We will be back next time we are in Louisville."

  • "Service was outstanding and worthy of the 5 stars. Complimentary valet was full due to another event and we were sent into the parking garage (shame as it was one of those freezing nights). We were told told have the ticket validated, but this seemed a surprise inside - it was done, but I felt it was questioned. The salmon was a little on the dry side, the rest of the food good. My wife and I were disappointed that the dress code did not match the rating. Groups in jeans just should not go with this rating and desired ambience. Seems to be a general trend but I had hoped some class would be maintained in some classy places. Overall the fixed price valentines menu was a little high for the experience."

  • "A friend and I booked reservations at The Oakroom, sight unseen, as a treat for our picky, food-snob husbands while we were traveling in Louisville. None of us were disappointed. While the price point is on the upper end, it was worth every penny. The restaurant was not crowded and very quiet, the wait staff was extremely attentive and we absolutely loved the artistry in the food - everything from the taste to the presentation to the delivery was phenomonal. The chef visited with us and explained how he "deconstructed" the boulabaise which explained the thought process behind the artistry. We loved it!"

  • "Had avoided for several years b/c the hotel restaurant seems to usually disappoint, but our meal was flawless. Best wine list in Louisville as well and I've seen most of them"
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "We were celebrating my wife's birthday at the Oak Room and we picked a great place to do it. Starting with a warm, friendly greeting, everything was just wonderful. We chose to have the five course chef's tasting menu with wine pairings and we were not disappointed. The sommelier was very personable and knowledgeable and the servers were great. They were very attentive, but not overbearing. The wine list was impressive, but not inexpensive. But really, where have you seen a wine list recently with a 1981 Ribera del Duero available? One of the courses was a cioppino and the chef altered it for me to avoid my shrimp allergy. The citrus dessert was awesome and we were just thrilled with the experience. If you love food and wine, go!"

  • "Everything was wonderful, only one tiny thing I would say..we were there for our anniversary dinner and it seemed like our waiter had a food runner acting as almost a second server...so he would ask how the food was, then five seconds later she would ask. This was for everything. He would describe food, she would describe food. It was a bit much, because obviously, we're there to talk to each other. But they were both very kind and helpful, it just felt like excessive interruption a few times, mainly from the food runner, our waiter was really only there right when we needed him...but it was not very busy, so perhaps that was why. We would definitely go back. Excellent food, excellent service, great mixologist."

  • "Really good serious restaurant. NOT trendy, loud, pushy. Plenty of space between tables, quiet. Very unobtrusive and knowlegable service. Good coat check service, valet parking is included"

  • "You can tell the chef and staff take great pride in their work. The food and service were excellent! Plus, it is a beautiful restaurant with great history. It is expensive but it is worth it. I highly recommend it."

  • "We changed a reservation from another restaurant in Louisville to the Oakroom. The weather was miserable and we were already staying at the Seelbach. We were seated immediately and the server was professional but also joked with us. We had the pleasure of the table-side mixologist who was quite down to earth and we talked a while about the drinks he was making and also how he got started. Highly recommend the Manhattan as they have their own twist on it. As for the food we decided to have the chef's tasting menu with the accompanying wine and everything was perfectly seasoned. The Caesar salad that we started with was a bit difficult to eat as it was "deconstructed" but that is the only thing I could complain about."

  • "The food at the Oakroom was outstanding as expected. What we were not prepared for was the quality of the service. Each person who was part of our service team did an outstanding job, and we are still talking about it a few days later!"

  • "Everything was wonderful, as always, except a screaming toddler at the table next to us. This is not a criticism of the restaurant but of selfish parents who just can't wait until their children reach the age of civilization before inflicting them on others."

  • "I have never tasted food that was as delicate, yet DIVINE at the same time. I wish I could have the entire Chef Staff available to me 24/7!"

  • "This is the second time I've had brunch at the Oak Room. Food was fabulous, as was the service. A little pricey for a Sunday brunch, but it made the perfect end to a birthday weekend away. From the champagne Mimosa, to the roasted duck, sweet fresh fruit, and the abundance of delectable desserts, we loved it all."
    Dined on 1/12/2014
  • "We are new to Louisville and decided to try the oak room because of its diamond rating. The food was outstanding! The chef was warm and welcoming and shared some recipe hints with us. The ambiance felt a little country club-like and somewhat outdated. Only complaint was a lack of mid-range Cabernet selections on the otherwise impressive wine list."

  • "The Oakroom is a true classic - one of the best dining events you'll experience. Their servers are pros and take great pride as they ply their trade. If you want to truly celebrate a special occasion, this is the go-to place. Great history, incredible ambiance, wonderful food, and the best service in town ... love this place."
