Diner Reviews
  • "The views are magical. The building, staff, service, and food were all outstanding. This should not be missed when looking for a special evening and dinner out. We will be back."

  • "Service and ambiance make this restaurant a wonderful place. Not to miss."

  • "A little pricey, but it's the Ojai Valley Inn, so what would you expect? Wine choices were limited and ALL high end. Great food, service and ambience!!!"

  • "We arrived on time for our 7:30 PM reservation. We saw the beautiful outdoor dining patio which appeared mostly full with a couple of empty tables. However, the hostess walks us over to an indoor dining area, opens the door and ushers into an absolutely empty room. No one else there, no music, very warm, I'm not even sure the tables were set. We thought she was joking. We asked how long for outdoors, we were told 20-45 mins. and someone would get us in the bar. One hour later, we finish our drinks, go back to the hostess who says, "perfect timing." She starts walking to our table and then leaves us standing for 5 mins. because the table wasn't set. We had obviously been forgotten. Wait staff was great so we did enjoy the meal."

  • "Love the setting and service very good. The food was very good overall but a few stumbles marred the experience. First, my wife ordered the cod dish with bok choy. It came instead with sauteed kale. Server wasnt sure if they ran out or what but looked and tasted terrible. Also I ordered a side of grilled aspargus and got only 4 stalks for $10. Huh? Lastly wine list prices are outrageous. Salmon was very good and so was branzino special."

  • "Love this place, been here many times and this time, celebrated anniversary dinner with my wife. Beautiful location, fabulous food and outstanding service -- the staff could not be more efficient or attentive."

  • "Great ambiance. Attentive staff. Very good food. The Oak Grill recently changed their menu and the four of us really enjoyed our meals. Fresh ingredients and solid, diverse menu. Started with a wonderful kale salad (definitely split worthy) and enjoyed a very nice halibut entree. My husband had a miso sea bass, I believe, and it was delicious too. It's a little pricey...not your everyday place. But when you want to step it up a notch and enjoy a nice meal with great ambiance, splurge a little and go to the Oak Grill at The Inn. The dining experience there has really improved over the years and we now go there 2-3 times a month."

  • "we like to go to the Inn because it does not disappoint. This time the service was, as always, friendly however the meal was a bit slow in coming to the table. It was a "full house" so perhaps that slowed the kitchen down. Otherwise...a perfect time."

  • "Only complaint would be that the staff worked a little too hard at clearing partially finished plates - especially when one or two in the party are clearly still eating. Positive comment is the 15% Inn Crowd savings."

  • "The service here is always great but the it's the views and the patio that are spectacular. Have dined here twice now and both times the servers were great. Will definitely be back again and again when I am in the area. "

  • "we celebrated my dad's 88th birthday with a party of 5 on the terrace. with perfect weather, the fading evening sky was accented by the twinkling lights in the adjacent grand oaks. our gracious server, annette, had excellent timing and attention to detail. bar tender mario personally delivered his delicious cocktails. dad especially enjoyed the spontaneous conversation with manager, ray, who made sure the birthday dinner was special. the lamb chops, tender and flavorful, exceeded what I've enjoyed in france. we all loved the local ojai winery pinot. each of our hand crafted main courses delighted all the senses. an overall delightful experience, which we look forward to repeating many times in the future."

  • "Had the best dinner! The shortrib is amazing - so tender, not over-seasoned, succulent...and I forgot half of it. I just left it there abandoned in a nicely packaged to-go box on my table while I strolled the grounds inhaling lavender and patting my happily full belly. Sigh. I may never get over it. Please tell your bussers to chase down fools like me so we aren't left with this sort of hysterical searing regret."

  • "My wife and I had dinner there on May 3rd. We were given a table outside overlooking the walking path and the golf course. It was very nice. The food was good, although not anything special. I had a half chicken and my wife had a chopped salad with grilled chicken. We had the artichoke flatbread as an appetizer and it was very good. We shared the black forest cake for desert and it was very tasty. The Grill isn't inexpensive but then again most things at the Ojai Valley Inn are fairly expensive. We shared a glass of wine and my wife had coffee. The total bill (with tip) was approximately $110. Overall, it was a good meal but not extraordinary."

  • "Great restaurant for lunch at the Ojai Valley Resort and Spa. It has a scenic view of the resort and gold course. The food is very good, but the service is a little slow. Also, their choice of music is too old school for me. All in all it was a nice experience."

  • "We always bring or out of town guests to the Oak Grill....you cannot beat the quality, service and atmosphere of this 5 Diamond resort! I have had only top flight experiences at the Inn."

  • "I love the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa and the Oak Grill is a great dining option. Definitely recommend over the more pricey option there. Food was great, service was great and the ambiance cannot be beat."

  • "We were staying at the resort and ate at this restaurant twice....once for dinner and once for breakfast. Both times were over the top exceptional! The menu for dinner is very broad and offers many choices. We all had something different. My halibut with pork belly was recommended by our waitress and it was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. The flavors were fabulous. For breakfast, a buffet is offered but we chose to order off the menu. The steak and eggs was wonderful, all egg dishes prepared perfectly and the service was once again fantastic. The setting is comfortable, yet offers great views. I highly recommend this restaurant. You will not be disappointed."

  • "This is a beautiful setting and the lunch menu is varied and moderate for the surroundings. But we had problem with food delivered and had to wait a very long time to get anyone from the wait staff to return to our table. Similarly, we ran out of bread and had to flag several people down before they replenished. Perhaps it was understaffed the day we went. What we ordered was tasty and would definitely go again, but hope the service improves."

  • "Pros: EXCELLENT service from Mario and Mark! Cons: My Hendrick's martini went from $14 to $19 - WHOA! And the chicken and short rib were both well presented but very salty. Chocolate dessert was very good."

  • "The Oak Grill at Ojai Valley Inn & Spa was amazing! The view was so beautiful with the trees lit up.The outdoor seating area felt so cozy. And the service here was incredible! The staff is beyond words here. I would definitely come back here again and again!"

  • "The Big Mouth Burger was gigantic and delicious! I also tried the Pork Belly, which was tender and rich. Finally, the Caramel Pecan Turtle Cake dessert was fantastic!"

  • "Impeccable service, great food, wonderful live music, and a special anniversary dessert provided a memorable evening!"

  • "Food was horrible and over priced... Not one thing on the menu was worth choosing a Big Mac over."

  • "I always rate the Inn 5 stars, but sadly couldn't this time. Everything was wonderful as usual: cocktails made with care at the bar with Mario, a lovely dinner and appetizers on the patio (my favorite was the crispy halibut with roasted pork belly, home fries and salsify!), but what deflated the whole evening was the frozen pumpkin dessert (so frozen that even after lingering over coffee, we still had to chip away at it). I expect five-diamond homemade desserts at a five-diamond resort. Bummer. Oh, and no more Parker House rolls! We still recommend and will definitely be back and hope this was just a one-off experience."

  • "We had a birthday gathering and the flowers we had ordered were there, the birthday cake requested was there, and delicious, and the service was warm and welcoming. Food was lovely, delivered a bit slowly. We were pleased overall, and had a nice time. This occasion was incidental to a wedding we were attending at Ojai Valley Inn, which was spectacular, and our birthday occasion was appropriately low key but special."

  • "Ate here while staying at the Ojai valley inn and spa. Dinner at Oak Grill was only disappointment during our otherwise wonderful stay. Food ranged from mediocre to terrible. Service inattentive. Surprising because breakfast was great."
    Dined on 9/17/2013
  • "We had a delicious dinner and especially impressed with staff.......couldn't have been nicer. We had a delay getting there from our room at the Ojai Inn, and since the restaurant knew it was my birthday...went overboard to make it a wonderful meal......"

  • "Your server and everyone working there made us feel very special. The scenery is spectacular too. We're bringing our kids and grandkids back for more special times....!! Thank you, Bonnie Edwards"

  • "Our food was terrible, we ordered a Halibut and it was over cooked. They redid it but we had to wait another 15minutes while one of us had finished our food. The cocktails were terrible too. The bus boys were the only efficient part of the evening eager to remove plates that were still being used and full of food! We will never go there again."
    Dined on 8/27/2013
  • "The food was ok, but I ordered my dish with no salt and it seemed they interpreted this to mean add lots of extra salt. Food was overpriced for what it was, but that's to be expected at a high end resort. service was very slow, had long waits between courses and had to ask repeatedly for various items and for bill. View over golf course is great so very pretty if you are outside. You are captive there, unless you want to drive out for dinner, so this is probably the more reasonable of the places to eat (others are more formal dining room and what amounts to a pub/bar, which is very noisy). Definitely would not eat here if I wasn't staying at the resort"

  • "This restaurant at the Ojai Valley Inn is perfect when you want good food, good scenery and comfortable atmosphere. We ate there for breakfast and dinner both days we stayed at the Inn and it offered enough variety to suit our tastes. The food was delicious and fresh."

  • "This was the night of the now-famous fireworks (which were fun to see, but the GM's apology in the paper later was insincere). Service was pleasant, but very slow (almost 2.5 hours for three courses). If you see our previous reviews, we always give OVI high marks, and of course we'll be back."

  • "Had expected a fine dining experience to match the quality of the Ojai Valley Inn. Not the case. While the setting under the oak trees is spectacular and the guitar playing a nice background touch, the long wait for dinner was inexcusable. The warm bread was good, but not enough to hold us for the next hour waiting for our entrees. I had the salmon which was good, but not outstanding. We finally spoke to the manager who gave us excuses, but seemed only mildly concerned. May or may not try it again. Would not recommend at this time."

  • "Set on the property of one of the most beautiful resorts in the country (Ojai Valley Inn & Spa), the Oak Grill is a fantastic setting for a nice yet casual dinner. Beautiful large patio overlooking their breathtaking golf course, the menu has a nice mix of casual fare to gourmet cuisine. Our server (Kory) couldn't have been any nicer or more accommodating. The guitar player added sweet sounds in the background, enhancing the experience. Highly recommended."
