  • "Lovely dinner at the Norseman - the food was excellent and the restaurant has the feel of an old Muskoka resort. We will definitely go back and recommend to friends."

  • "We dined in the screened porch (Muskoka room) with view of Walker Lake. The calamari was the best I've had. Servings were on the small side which left room for dessert. Very nice experience overall."

  • "Last minute reservation made super easily on the internet. Hopeful it would be decent meal with good atmosphere. Off the beaten track - will it be worth the drive? Quaint, friendly greeting and service and then phenomenal food. We will be back!"

  • "Anytime we visit near Huntsville, we always remember what wonderful choice of food is served at The Norseman. It was our third time visit there and we have not been disappointed at all. It was a homey atmosphere and not noisy at all, so made conversation easy. The service was well timed and we never felt rushed. Would definitely return again!"

  • "The meal from appetizers to dessert and coffee was above our expectations. Reviews we're read previously speaking highly of this place were not exaggerations. This was our 3rd visit and food better than ever. Of course we will return. I would rank this as our fave dining place in all Muskoka."

  • "Staff were extremely courteous and owner "Les" spent a great deal of time making sure that we enjoyed our experience."

  • "What a delight to return, after several years, to a much improved restaurant - same beautiful environment, warm and welcoming dining room, same friendly staff but now supplemented by a very sophisticated menu served with elegance - wonderful."

  • "We come here every year when we are at our cottage and always have a fine meal. This was our first visit this year and every course we had was outstanding!! The service was excellent and our host was gracious as always. We enjoyed dining on the screened-in porch overlooking the lake on a beautiful evening. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a fine dining experience in Muskoka."

  • "I took my wife and daughter here for Mothers day. My wife was very happy with the pork belly. My daughter and I both had the tenderloin; unfortunately the meat was tough and had an odd flavor. One of the dishes my daughter had appeared to have tiny pieces of glass in it. We made the waitress aware and she promptly removed the item but that was it. Serving a customer broken glass requires a little more acknowledgment. We were not happy with the overall experience. I would expect better food and service at a "fine dining" establishment."

  • "The Norsemen Restaurant is a very good choice for a good, special meal when in or around Huntsville. By more global/universal standards, the restaurant is good, but not great. Both of our entrees were rather salty, and my partner's dessert - a mousse - was way too cold. The staff deserves praise for taking back and replacing in its entirety one of the entrees because my partner mentioned that sauce on her sea bass fillet was too salty."

  • ""We have been there many times and appreciate the relaxed feel of this place - like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would recommend it to friends and would like to try even more of their dishes....so we'll be back soon. Their homemade soups are excellent and the variety of wild game as main courses are always executed to perfection. Service was well-timed and friendly, the wine selection although limited was acceptable and certainly affordable.""

  • "It was cold, the women wore thier coats through dinner. It was too much money for o.k. food, o.k. service and o.k. atmosphere."
    Dined on 1/3/2014
  • "This was our third time dining at the Norsemen and we have never been disappointed. The exterior still has not been painted but the food and service both continue to be excellent. My wife opted for the onion soup and phyllo crusted salmon. The soup was very tasty and served at just the right temperature and the crust on the salmon was very thin with lots of salmon inside. A lot of places give you all crust and little salmon. My pumpkin soup was just the right consistency and temperature and the bison steak was very tender. The blueberry sauce on the bison was an interesting touch and while it might sound unusual was a very good combination. The bread pudding dessert was to die for. As usual service was attentive but not overbearing."

  • "We were staying nearby and the location was ideal. Nice warm and comfortable athmosphere. We both had the Thanksgiving Special although there were good options on the A La Carte. Food was very good, cooked well and presented well. Staff were friendly and attentive although the restaurant was only half full as we dined early. Would recommend the Norseman for a nice evening out for anyone staying in the Huntsville area."

  • "We had a great evening in this quiet spot on the water just outside of Huntsville. The lodge is 'Old Muskoka' as is the setting, the service was very good; friendly, warm, and efficient. The food was outstanding. This very competent and creative chef presents a small but comprehensive menu of standards with a twist, expertly rendered."

  • "Unique and rustic.. but food quality could be a bit higher... presentation was good, portions adequate."

  • "The Norseman was a lovely spot to take a friend to celebrate a milestone in his life. It is a memory- maker restaraunt; with the quiet atmosphere, deer sightings through the window, warm fire and service and excellent food. It is definitely a secluded gem to return to in creating special memories."

  • "service was very accommodating. although it was cool outside, there was no problem for the wait staff to come outside for us. Staff from the restaurant talked to us about the history of the old buildings and area, without giving you the feeling they were being taken away from more important tasks. Food was fresh and well-prepared. View over the lake was beautiful for a late summer dinner. At no time did we feel rushed."

  • "The food was delicious although not sure my fish was fully cooked but I couldn't tell because of the dim lighting. The ambience was great! The service was timely. The décor was neat - very rustic with lots of charm. Thought the restaurant was on a lake and there would be a view but not so much. You can see the lake through the trees. Very quiet. The deserts were awesome! If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and have a leisurely meal and aren't set on a view then this is the place."

  • "I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. I thought the restaurant was in desperate need of a makeover. The tables and chairs were uncomfortable with the apron of the table too low and the chairs too soft. Service was okay but nondescript and without personality. The best part of the meal was the roll. The schnitzel was okay but not hot, the mushroom sauce in need of seasoning. Other items on the menu seemed expensive. I would not recommend this restaurant."

  • "Had a special steak on the night, taste like frozen steak and re-heated, had the server changed to a pasta The pasta was no better, taste like frozen re-heated sauce pouring on a bowl of cooked pasta Red wine was blend, left in a hurry and the server knew their food weren't right"

  • "In order to have Quesadilla on your menu, you really should check out a Mexican recipe for it. The outside/crust was excellent but the inside lacked inspiration to the point of having no taste/flavour at all."

  • "It was our first time there and it was excellent service for a cottage country restaurant. Staff was friendly and attentive. Food was excellent and presentation was well done."

  • "My wife and I recently dined at the Norsemen restaurant outside Huntsville, Ontario, in celebration of our wedding anniversary. The menu was well presented, service - very good, recommended New Zealand wine at excellent price. Lovely dessert and ambiance."

  • "This is a great place for special occasions when in cottage country. The tables are well spaced and chairs comfty and decor is soothing. The exterior may be a tad off-puting for the hyper critical. It is an older building and it is holding up very well as such. The menu is not overly long but there are excellent choices for every palate. The food is good ,salads very fresh , and the preparation is done by a kitchen that cares what leaves their hidden kingdom, We have been dining here at least twice a summer for a number of years and have never been disappointed."

  • "Went to the norsemen for the second time in a week. This time it was for Friday night Schnitzel Night. Best Jager Schnitzel we have had in a long time including the one we had in our recent trip to Vienna. Quite well prepared with accompanying house potatoes and mixed vegetables done to perfection. Price was right at $16.00. As before service was excellent and wine list extensive. Started(again) with the Lobster ravioli which just as good as the previous time. Would have eaten on the screened in porch but it started to rain so went inside. Can't say enough good things about this eclectic restaurant in a peaceful location"

  • "This restaurant is part of a small cottage community and is housed in an 1867 house that could stand some work outside. Don't let this scare you as the restaurant has been listed in where to eat in Canada and once inside the food is fantastic and the wine list extensive. The lobster ravioli starter was some of the best we have ever had. Venison can be quite dry but my entre was done to perfection with a nice sauce. My partner's salmon was superbly cooked and wrapped in a phyllo pastry which was very light. The entrees included rice with the salmon, roast potatoes with the meat and superbly cooked mixed vegetables with both. The German chocolate cake dessert was outstanding. Service by the owner was excellent and the wine choices very good"

  • "Les and the team at the Norseman continue to provide a great dining experience in Muskoka. Worth the trip from Dorset , Baysville, Dwight, Bracebridge or Huntsville, you will not be disappointed. If you have not tried the Norseman, you owe it to yourself to do so."

  • "Very quiet, just a couple other tables occupied through the evening. Nice log burning fireplace. Nicely presented meals, creatively made. Perfect portions unless you're an "all you can eat" type. (in which case you're probably not here anyway)"

  • "This was our first dining experience at the Norsemen My husband loved the flat iron steak and my pork tenderloin was great. Nice seasonal vegetables were served. Next time we will order the French onion soup, our dinner guest raved about it. The wine list was extensive and affordable.. We will return when we can dine outside in the screened in porch."

  • "I would recommend the Norseman for the ambiance and the setting and the wine list."

  • "Dissapointed with my steak. My wife's chicken was very good. The sauces were awesome, like the Norsemen of old. French Onion soup was good but tepid. The place is rustic but needs some sprucing up."

  • "We went to the Norsemen for our 1st Anniversary...what a find! We had an idea from the reviews that it would be good... but it was fantastic. Wonderful hosts and amazing food (try the Duck Ravioli au Jus!!). My only complaint is that the viww was mostly of the parking lot and car noises were distracting... which is too bad because beyond the parking lot is a beautiful lake. Other than that, perfection. We will most certainly go back, and bring others with us."
