Awesome food in an awesome setting. This chef is 5 star all the way, offering very creative interpretations of classic dishes and many with an authentic Canadaian flare. All served in an authentic muskoka cottage setting.....most unique and enjoyable!

WHO WOULD HAVE THOUGHT SUCH A GEM OF A DINING SPOT COULD BE FOUND UP MUSKOKA WAY IN COTTAGE COUNTRY. THREE OF US DINED THERE TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW AND EACH EVENING WAS A CULINARY DELIGHT. THEY HAVE AN AWESOME CHEF - THE WINE LIST IS MORE THAN ACCEPTABLE AND SERVICE WAS VERY GOOD. IT IS A LOVELY QUAINT INN, WITH INSIDE AS WELL AS OUTSIDE SEATING ON A SCREENED IN VERANDA. WE WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND A VISIT FOR AN ENJOYABLE EVENING.

The Norsemen is a comfortable, rustic, restaurant overlooking a lake in the Lake of Bays area. The menu offers wild fish and game, such as duck, venison and bison; however, steak and lamb are also on the menu for those who are more conservative in their eating habits. Service is very good, although our server didn't know what vegetables were in the vegetable medley that night! This is a great special occasion restaurant as it's a bit pricey and has a limited menu.

We made a reservation for the Norsemen and we're really excited. When we arrived we were told by a server that someone would be right with us......then another told us the same........and another. One server actually spoke to us four times. Had the restaurant been jam packed this still would have been poor service.....but it wasn't even close! There were a few sparse tables inside and a few folks on the patio. It would have taken mere seconds to seat us, and give us menus and water glasses. At the fifteen minute mark, after numerous "we'll be right with yous", we left......sorely disappointed.

Service was hopelessly slow, despite this being a fairly small restaurant that was barely half full. Took nearly 2 hours to get our mains. Food was inconsistently cooked with some parts of the same dish cold and others hot. Staff as a whole appear to lack the skills and efficiency essential to running a restaurant. Would never go back.

We fully enjoyed our evening meal at the Norsemen. We sat on the screened porch outside, among other happy diners. The buzz was good and the service was very good. Great for our special evening out. We will happily go back. Also it is close to our cottage which makes it easy to get to by boat, car or feet. Great!

It was a homey atmosphere and not noisy at all, so made conversation easy. The service was well timed and we never felt rushed. Would definitely return again!

I took my wife and daughter here for Mothers day. My wife was very happy with the pork belly. My daughter and I both had the tenderloin; unfortunately the meat was tough and had an odd flavor. One of the dishes my daughter had appeared to have tiny pieces of glass in it. We made the waitress aware and she promptly removed the item but that was it. Serving a customer broken glass requires a little more acknowledgment. We were not happy with the overall experience. I would expect better food and service at a "fine dining" establishment.

The Norsemen Restaurant is a very good choice for a good, special meal when in or around Huntsville. By more global/universal standards, the restaurant is good, but not great. Both of our entrees were rather salty, and my partner's dessert - a mousse - was way too cold. The staff deserves praise for taking back and replacing in its entirety one of the entrees because my partner mentioned that sauce on her sea bass fillet was too salty.

"We have been there many times and appreciate the relaxed feel of this place - like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would recommend it to friends and would like to try even more of their dishes....so we'll be back soon. Their homemade soups are excellent and the variety of wild game as main courses are always executed to perfection. Service was well-timed and friendly, the wine selection although limited was acceptable and certainly affordable."

This was our third time dining at the Norsemen and we have never been disappointed. The exterior still has not been painted but the food and service both continue to be excellent. My wife opted for the onion soup and phyllo crusted salmon. The soup was very tasty and served at just the right temperature and the crust on the salmon was very thin with lots of salmon inside. A lot of places give you all crust and little salmon. My pumpkin soup was just the right consistency and temperature and the bison steak was very tender. The blueberry sauce on the bison was an interesting touch and while it might sound unusual was a very good combination. The bread pudding dessert was to die for. As usual service was attentive but not overbearing.

We were staying nearby and the location was ideal. Nice warm and comfortable athmosphere. We both had the Thanksgiving Special although there were good options on the A La Carte. Food was very good, cooked well and presented well. Staff were friendly and attentive although the restaurant was only half full as we dined early. Would recommend the Norseman for a nice evening out for anyone staying in the Huntsville area.

service was very accommodating. although it was cool outside, there was no problem for the wait staff to come outside for us. Staff from the restaurant talked to us about the history of the old buildings and area, without giving you the feeling they were being taken away from more important tasks. Food was fresh and well-prepared. View over the lake was beautiful for a late summer dinner. At no time did we feel rushed.

The food was delicious although not sure my fish was fully cooked but I couldn't tell because of the dim lighting. The ambience was great! The service was timely. The décor was neat - very rustic with lots of charm. Thought the restaurant was on a lake and there would be a view but not so much. You can see the lake through the trees. Very quiet. The deserts were awesome! If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and have a leisurely meal and aren't set on a view then this is the place.

I was looking forward to trying this restaurant. I thought the restaurant was in desperate need of a makeover. The tables and chairs were uncomfortable with the apron of the table too low and the chairs too soft. Service was okay but nondescript and without personality. The best part of the meal was the roll. The schnitzel was okay but not hot, the mushroom sauce in need of seasoning. Other items on the menu seemed expensive. I would not recommend this restaurant.

This is a great place for special occasions when in cottage country. The tables are well spaced and chairs comfty and decor is soothing. The exterior may be a tad off-puting for the hyper critical. It is an older building and it is holding up very well as such. The menu is not overly long but there are excellent choices for every palate. The food is good ,salads very fresh , and the preparation is done by a kitchen that cares what leaves their hidden kingdom, We have been dining here at least twice a summer for a number of years and have never been disappointed.
