We sat outside and enjoyed
people-watching. We LOVED the brie curds with blueberry sauce and even the table next to us asked if we could share. I had the Braised short rib, which was fantastic. And the Kentucky porkchop was monstrous and great as well. I would definitely come back here if I was in town."

Right on Nicollet Mall, this place
is close to events but still relatively peaceful for brunch. It's not a fancy place, the food is unpretentious. we sat off the sidewalk in the sun and were there almost two hours - they served families, friends, and individuals, and sports played on several TVs. Service was unremarkable but not distracting. Recommended for smaller, casual groups. Go at 9, it gets busy by 10."

This restaurant is just
satisfactory all around. Super neat bathrooms, VERY tasty food, really great, personable waiting staff, and just a good environment for a big group of friends (or a small group or a date, too!). 10/10 recommend!"

Had a great experience at The News
Room! Great food (the mac and cheese is soooo good) and drinks! We will be coming back again!"
Dined on 6/21/2014
Great atmosphere, great food,
great drinks and great service! Will definitely recommend to others."

The News Room did an excellent job
of accommodating our large group on a Friday night, but the service was slow and I was disappointed with the quality of my dish. I think the staff was preoccupied with the patio diners. Great decor, but it did not make up for the fact that my "On Top of Old Smoky" flatbread pizza was one of the worst dishes I have ever eaten in Minneapolis. The fish tasted like somebody had dumped an entire salt shaker on top of it. I may go back for the extensive beer selection, but will stay away from the food."

We arrived at restaurant and were
seated right away. Good service. Food was good and prepared as directed. Group had sundried tomato alfredo, almond chicken salad and a build your own kobe burger."

Celebrated a college graduation
with group of 12. Great selection of beer and other drinks. Food and service were great. Fun atmosphere. Jambalaya had Italian twist to it and was awsome!!"

This place is loud and with the
various rooms and high ceilings, conversations seem to echo. Our waiter seemed distracted and started out fine, when we were the only table seated in the room, but quickly the service disintegrated to the point where we had to follow him to the computer to pay our bill! Twice we asked him for the bill and he forgot. The vegetaran pasta and rib pot roast were excellent and look really large, although it's an optical illusion with the plates. Brussels sprouts were excellent. The donuts were just fried dough with heavy frosting; we wanted to try the root beer cookies, but were told 15 minute lead-time. Our waiter's slow service negated the cookie throught...."

A group of girlfriends and I met
up for Sunday breakfast before heading our separate directions. I ordered the bloody mary & the waitress was warned me that they are quite spicy. Even cut with tomato juice, it wasn't enough. There was so much black pepper in it that it was actually grainy and undrinkable. The breakfast/brunch menu was rather limited and out of date. (The grits apparently were discontinued but they are still on the printed menu.) Had the Steak & Egg Burrito, which was pretty good. A much larger portion than expected. The side of potatoes were unfortunately covered in black pepper. I think everyone was pretty happy with everything but the potatoes. Would like try this place for lunch or the late night scene."

I've eaten here 3 times. The first
2 times were pretty good so I thought I was safe for try #3. It was a total bust! The iced tea was colored water. The Brie Curds had wadded up pieces of paper in 3 of 6 curds. We didn't check the ones we didn't eat. For dinner I split the Almond Chicken Salad. Zero flavor on the chicken. It tasted like boiled chicken with soggy breading. The lettuce was fresh. With so many options, I won't be returning. Too bad! Our waiter was very good. We never saw a manager."

We went their for our anniversary.
It was busy and we were glad to have a reservation. The waitress wasn't very attentive and didn't refill our drinks or check in on us after we received our food. So the service was not as nice as I would have liked - especially on our anniversary (which I noted on our reservation) The food on the other hand - it was great. I had a steak with mushroom madeira sauce - so good and had the shredded brussel sprouts for a side. The brussel sprouts were to die for and they make my mouth water now just thinking about them. We will definitely go back for another try. Just hoping the service we got was a fluke and we have a better server next time."

I'm not a food snob by any stretch
of the imagination, but the jambalaya tasted great. The setup was entertaining, and the service was excellent. The one specialty drink we got was overpriced in my opinion, but that was the only downside. Oh, and definitely get a dessert."

A visit to the Newsroom is always
on my list when I'm spending a couple days in Minneapolis. I love the ambience in the place, the food is always good, and so is the service. No complaints!"
Dined on 3/24/2014
Good spot to watch sports and
enjoy a varied menu. Service was great, food was very good and the atmosphere was fun and energetic. I'm from out of town, but this seems to be a great local spot too. I'll visit again."

A friend and I shared the Tres
Hummus appetizer, she had the coconut shrimp entree, I had the butternut squash fettuccini. Everything was delicious!"

I have eaten lunch at The News
Room a couple times, but this was the first time I've had dinner there. The bar area was hopping with March Madness but we were asked when we entered if we were there for basketball or dining. When we said we were there for dinner we were shown to the comparatively quiet dining area. Very nice. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. I had the grilled wallu. It was a light meal but extremely satisfying. I recommend the rootbeer cookies for dessert. I'll come again."

You have to try the brie cheese
curds with the blueberry ketchup the best.Thier bread and toast they use for the sandwiches tastes like it just came out of the oven so fresh.Portions good size. love this place"

Loved the ambiance and the food
did not disappoint. Service was great. We'd definitely recommend the News Room to friends and family and look forward to returning."

Great happy hour! We stopped in
for dinner and drinks before heading down the street to the Dakota. All four of us loved both our food and drinks."
Dined on 3/14/2014
Pretty busy Saturday night, decent
burger and good beer list."
Dined on 3/15/2014
Food was not very good.. Out of 3
entrees, only the side of asparagus was worth ordering again. Drinks on the other hand were excellent. I'd definitely recommend this as a place to go grab a cocktail, but not for eating."

Had a group for a birthday party
so this was a first time visit for this restaurant. We asked the server for a description and type of cut for the items we ordered and when the food was served, the description from the server was completely different from what we got (and from what we wanted). We sent about half of the meals back and simply went to another restaurant. The meals we did keep were OK. they were at a level you would expect for this class of restaurant, nothing great, but above average."
Dined on 3/8/2014
We went to the News Room after a
recommendation from a friend. I think this is a good place for drinks, but not so much if you're looking for a killer meal. Food was average for the Nixollet Ave scene. Service was pretty good. The atmosphere is really cool, though. That was definitely the best part. My fiance and I won't go back, but we'd recommend you try it once."
Dined on 3/8/2014
they were very accomodating and
willing to do seperate tabs. We will definitely be back with a group."

This reservation was to kick off a
bachelor party weekend with my boys, and this really was a great place. The service was great, the food was high-quality and the drinks were awesome. The ambiance is awesome too, it's a great environment to relax and enjoy a night out."
Dined on 2/22/2014
Great place to dine before
theatre. close enough to the action but far enough to be quiet before the night life gets going. Fun food options with a wide variety of salads, apps and entrees. Food is a touch trendy but they will make it the way you like it without complaint. Loved the Eggplant App. Wait staff was amazing and friendly. Plan to return again."

Found this restaurant on trip
advisor and it was close to our hotel. Waitress was spot on with her recommendations and we had two fantastic meals. Massive drink, wine and beer list! Cool environment and interesting bar."

My husband and I are visiting
Minneapolis and chos the Newsroom after viewing their website. The food was average, as was the service. Nothing was unacceptable, nor was it exceptional in any way. While I cannot recommend this restaurant, I certainly wouldn't discourage you from giving it a try."
Dined on 2/13/2014
Clearly a draw and a gathering
spot for the under 40 crowd. Lively sound ( forget about conversation). No matter where you are seated in the main dining room you will have a sight - line to 5 of the 20 TV screens , sport's bar style."
Dined on 2/7/2014
The sundried tomato fettucini was
delicious. Good flavor, portion size was adequate. Great service."
Dined on 2/1/2014
We raise our own meat so it's hard
to find a steak besides our house that my husband doesn't complain about! Yet he always get the steak and complain, complain, complain; well he said he would pay $40 for a steak like this anyday! I had the BEST chicken I have ever had!!!! It fell off the bone and melted in my mouth!!!!!! I still can't get over it!!!!!!! Delicious! We would go back for sure!!! The only thing was the waitress had a lot of table to take care of so I felt it took extra time for her to get to us if we needed some thing or to come back to take our order. Which wasn't her fault. Recommend this place to anyone that wants a unique place and delicious wide variety of food!!!"

Went to The Newsroom, for dinner
with Family on a Saturday evening. Service was awesome and the food was great."
Dined on 1/11/2014
Friendly & relaxed. Food portions
were acceptable, alcohol drinks were a bit on the weak side. Our waitress was pleasant, but seem to disappear for periods of time... Not bad service just noticeable at times we were trying to find her at it was a bit difficult to locate her, but she was pleasant. Restaurant has ample seating space, and good size menu."
Dined on 12/27/2013
We stopped in after a show at the
orpheum. It was a quick walk from the theatre, we were seated promptly, ordered and appitizer (the eggplant) it came fast and was delicous. My group had pasts, salad and fish. The fish was walu and it was outstanding! The prices were a little high, but not bad for downtown, we got lots of food for the price. The service was good and the food choices were healthy as well. I would recommend The News Room."
Dined on 12/26/2013
never bad food or service here.
Nice size menu and good consistency with food. We come here fairly frequently, always a good bet"
Dined on 11/28/2013
This restaurant was suggested for
Thanksgiving on Open Table -- poor choice. Nothing Thanksgiving about it except for turkey. Would NOT recommend for Thanksgiving dinner. Ambiance is too noise for a family meal (we had to ask to be moved to a quieter area though restaurant was not busy when we arrived with six adults, one child and a toddler and were seated in room with television sets blaring from every direction as if in a sports bar). Service was SLOW and soup and main course food was NOT PROPERLY HEATED. NO cranberry sauce with turkey. COFFEE MACHINE WAS BROKEN!!! Will not return."
Dined on 11/28/2013
Convenient restaurant on Nicollet
Mall that usually has availability. Food was just okay at this visit - was better on previous visits. Service a bit slow due to large group nearby that was taking much of our server's time."
Dined on 11/22/2013
Went there before attending a show
at the Orpheum. It was a great happy hour with good food. I really appreciated the fast service and the awesome martini list."
Dined on 11/12/2013
Food was excellent. Staff very
helpful, especially as we needed a quiet spot for my 83-year-old hard-of-hearing mother who was visiting from out of town. Have two teenagers and they enjoyed exploring the restaurant and reading all the old headlines. Service was marvelous (Fernando?), food equally so. Staff even complied when we asked them to turn down the music a bit (see above mention about Grandma's ears). And the Open Table reservation process was so easy, it was unbelievable. Good job, all!"
