Having a party of 15 people show up during a Friday night happy hour can be a server's worst nightmare. Thankfully, our server, bartender, and hostesses were more than accomodating. It was a great place to toast to new beginnings. They even called to confirm my reservation prior to my group showing up. I really appreciated the hospitality and warmth that I received.

We were going to be in Mpls for the Garth show so decided we would be brave and eat downtown. We are very much "non-city" people so were a little out of our comfort zone. Found this online and daughter said it was good so we booked. The poma-dor martini was amazingly wonderful! The bread and funky butter was gr8! The walleye, creamed spinach, wild rice was out of this world fab! My husband had a salad with chicken and the flavor was wonderful, but just a bit overcooked. The waiter was phenomenal and our request for a quieter place to eat was spot-on from the host. A super wonderful experience! We'd go again in a heartbeat!

I was a bit confused when I first arrived. Based on the dress code that is listed in their Open Table profile [Business Casual], I was expecting the atmosphere to be a bit more formal. It is definately the sort of you where you could feel as comfortable in a nice pair of jeans or shorts and a sweat/t-shirt. The atmosphere is eclectic - yet beautifully designed. Lots of hard surfaces, and felt like I was walking through a modern museum on historical news.

Love the atmosphere at the News Room; newspaper theme and the variety of seating types make it nice for groups, friends, families or couples. But each time we visited our food was either prepared badly or tasted bad. The chicken cordon bleu was made with shredded chicken (or at least it seemed shredded cut open.) The coating on the outside just didn't taste good. The mashed potatoes were not delivered until the meal was almost over. The scallops were way undercooked and gooey on the inside. The salmon salad and the kids' mac and cheese were fine. We really like eating at the News Room because we enjoy the uniqueness of the space and like reading some of the stories on the giant papers in the room. Wish they could make the food better.

The News Room's tables feature sections of newspapers, some 100+ yrs. old. The food is well-and-imaginatively prepared, so you won't get indigestion as you read about a 1st WW battle. Menu is wide-ranging - bar food to full dinners. Wine list is large, well-selected and fairly priced. Service is casually friendly. Spicy dishes feature lots of interesting seasonings. Can be noisy, depending on where and when you sit. Good experience!

Yeah, it is a bar, but it would have been so much more enjoyable if not so loud. A bit unexpected as we have heard that it is a great lunch place, too, but perhaps the TV's aren't blaring then. Okay, the food.. It was amazing. Appetizer of the Brie Curds with a blueberry sauce. Delicious. We each ordered pasta, 3 different items. All were excellent and different from one another. The creamy pesto, shrimp tomato, and the vegetarian pasta with lots of wonderful mushrooms and flavors. And I didn't mention the great martini's, did I? Each done perfectly! We were going to a show and the waitress was attentive and made sure we both were relaxed and able to enjoy drinks and dinner and yet ready to wrap up in time for the show.

This restaurant has great drinks, food and ambience. However the service was not up to par, waiter focused on a table that looked like big tippers more than the rest of his tables, and the bathrooms were confusing as to which was mens or womens and they were also not clean.

Right on Nicollet Mall, this place is close to events but still relatively peaceful for brunch. It's not a fancy place, the food is unpretentious. we sat off the sidewalk in the sun and were there almost two hours - they served families, friends, and individuals, and sports played on several TVs. Service was unremarkable but not distracting. Recommended for smaller, casual groups. Go at 9, it gets busy by 10.

We sat outside and enjoyed people-watching. We LOVED the brie curds with blueberry sauce and even the table next to us asked if we could share. I had the Braised short rib, which was fantastic. And the Kentucky porkchop was monstrous and great as well. I would definitely come back here if I was in town.

The News Room did an excellent job of accommodating our large group on a Friday night, but the service was slow and I was disappointed with the quality of my dish. I think the staff was preoccupied with the patio diners. Great decor, but it did not make up for the fact that my "On Top of Old Smoky" flatbread pizza was one of the worst dishes I have ever eaten in Minneapolis. The fish tasted like somebody had dumped an entire salt shaker on top of it. I may go back for the extensive beer selection, but will stay away from the food.

This place is loud and with the various rooms and high ceilings, conversations seem to echo. Our waiter seemed distracted and started out fine, when we were the only table seated in the room, but quickly the service disintegrated to the point where we had to follow him to the computer to pay our bill! Twice we asked him for the bill and he forgot. The vegetaran pasta and rib pot roast were excellent and look really large, although it's an optical illusion with the plates. Brussels sprouts were excellent. The donuts were just fried dough with heavy frosting; we wanted to try the root beer cookies, but were told 15 minute lead-time. Our waiter's slow service negated the cookie throught....

I've eaten here 3 times. The first 2 times were pretty good so I thought I was safe for try #3. It was a total bust! The iced tea was colored water. The Brie Curds had wadded up pieces of paper in 3 of 6 curds. We didn't check the ones we didn't eat. For dinner I split the Almond Chicken Salad. Zero flavor on the chicken. It tasted like boiled chicken with soggy breading. The lettuce was fresh. With so many options, I won't be returning. Too bad! Our waiter was very good. We never saw a manager.

A group of girlfriends and I met up for Sunday breakfast before heading our separate directions. I ordered the bloody mary & the waitress was warned me that they are quite spicy. Even cut with tomato juice, it wasn't enough. There was so much black pepper in it that it was actually grainy and undrinkable. The breakfast/brunch menu was rather limited and out of date. (The grits apparently were discontinued but they are still on the printed menu.) Had the Steak & Egg Burrito, which was pretty good. A much larger portion than expected. The side of potatoes were unfortunately covered in black pepper. I think everyone was pretty happy with everything but the potatoes. Would like try this place for lunch or the late night scene.

We went their for our anniversary. It was busy and we were glad to have a reservation. The waitress wasn't very attentive and didn't refill our drinks or check in on us after we received our food. So the service was not as nice as I would have liked - especially on our anniversary (which I noted on our reservation) The food on the other hand - it was great. I had a steak with mushroom madeira sauce - so good and had the shredded brussel sprouts for a side. The brussel sprouts were to die for and they make my mouth water now just thinking about them. We will definitely go back for another try. Just hoping the service we got was a fluke and we have a better server next time.

I have eaten lunch at The News Room a couple times, but this was the first time I've had dinner there. The bar area was hopping with March Madness but we were asked when we entered if we were there for basketball or dining. When we said we were there for dinner we were shown to the comparatively quiet dining area. Very nice. Our server was attentive but not intrusive. I had the grilled wallu. It was a light meal but extremely satisfying. I recommend the rootbeer cookies for dessert. I'll come again.
