Diner Reviews
  • "Lovely anniversary dinner...very special. I had the pork chops and they were good but it was the okra fritters, curried okra and the corn salsa that really enhanced the dish. My husband liked his tenderloin meal."

  • "Eclectic wine list complements a creative offering of small and large plates. It is hard to choose, everything sounds so good. Not an ordinary restaurant!"

  • "New restaurant for us. Won't be the last time we eat here. All was good. Only bad thing is the view out of the dining room.....onto the parking lot."

  • "New Public House has a diverse menu that will please anyone. Food is freshly prepared and served promptly. It's the type of restaurant you can go to for snacks OR a full meal. Wine list is good and prices very reasonable. Our party of 3 had small plates, appetizers, an entree each, a bottle of wine and one (delicious) shared dessert for $155 including a generous tip. The waitress was spot on, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this restaurant for dinner. I haven't been there for breakfast so will leave that review to others."

  • "My family was visiting us in Blowing Rock to celebrate my son's 50th birthday. We selected the New Public House and everyone enjoyed their meal from start to finish. Especially enjoyed the Bleu Tots, pimento cheese spread appetizers, and the snapper special entree. the banana split prepared with a sugar glaze was unique and delicious. They all are anxious to return here the next time they are in Blowing Rock."

  • "Had another great meal at New Public House in Blowing Rock. We had a large group and had to wait a few minutes for our table so we had a chance to hang out in the bar. It is beautifully decorated. They seated us in a booth with 2 chairs added to the end. The chairs were much lower than the table so the unfortunate ones who sat there felt like children at the grown up table! The service was terrific and the food is always amazing. Everyone ordered something different and everyone loved their meal! The wings, the pimento cheese, the mac n cheese, the meatloaf, trout and shrimp and grits are all spectacular. We will be back again soon and I highly recommend it for others visiting the area or locals!"

  • "My husband and I loved our meal. From the delicious cocktails, awesome wine list, variety of menu options (small bites, salads, hot and cold appetizers, entrees and sides) and wonderful service, it was the perfect evening! Try the okra fritters and lobster tot salad! We will definitely be back. Plum cobbler was outstanding."

  • "Food is very, very good; great quality and variety and prepared with care. Very good high-end wine list! Service was Excellent - fast, friendly, and witty! This was our 10th visit to New Public House - consistent positive dining experience. Really miss Will (restaurant manager) and his visits to the table and wine recommendations, etc. Wish him the best at his new endeavor!"

  • "We had a wonderful evening at the New Public House. As a long-time fan of sister restaurant, Bistro Roca, we had high expectations for the Hew Public and we were not disappointed. The food and service were excellent and we enjoyed the quieter, sophisticated atmosphere that allowed for conversation. We followed the recommendations of our server who was helpful and well-trained and we were thrilled with our selections of "bites," salads, entrees and dessert. We had a superior bottle of French Gigondas that we considered a bargain for the quality. In a small town that has an amazing number of wonderful restaurant choices, we would place the New Public House in the top group and look forward to returning to try something different."

  • "I want this restaurant to succeed ! I would love the wait staff to be more personable & knowledgeable! The food was excellent! We were a table of nine on a very quiet evening. Five of our party arrived on time, and we're told we could not be seated until ALL arrived. There were 2 other customers in the restaurant! Our waitress was aloof , and seemed disinterested in serving us!! Bistro Roca owns this restaurant, and we expect better service next time!!"

  • "I specifically asked to celebrate here since we had eaten here when we had guests from out of town. Everyone enjoyed it so much and I was excited about returning. Food and service was great and mixed drink was perfect. Hope I don't have to wait for another special occasion! We didn't understand how the pork was to be cooked. We asked for medium and we should have requested done. A little too red, but still good. Green tomato appetizer was perfect to share and so good. A great new place in Blowing Rock, we are spreading the word!"

  • "A must go when in BR! Great front proch to relax on with drinks prior to a fabulous, freshly prepared creation from locally sourced farms, etc. Gorgeous atmosphere, and lively time to be had here. Must go!"

  • "We were referred to this "new" restaurant by a friend & foodie that works at another restaurant in the area. We tried 4 small-ish plates, but the entrees served around us also looked wonderful. Don't miss the Smoked Bacon-Peanut Brittle...it is NOT what you think, but it is fabulous. The housemade pimento cheese was good and the salads were excellent as well. Loved the Okra Fritters (side item). You can tell that a lot of thought goes into the preparation and presentation of each dish. The house picked items were also excellent...dilly bean, okra, cukes. Great wine and beer list. Something for everyone - especially the slightly adventurous!"

  • "I recently had brunch with a friend at the New Public House. When I made my online reservation, I saw a section for "special requests". I told them that I would like to sit outside if the weather was nice. They made sure every table on the front porch was fit to dine on! They were so welcoming too! My friend was a little late, so one of the ladies gave me a tour of the hotel as well. They had beautiful rooms, a nice dining area, an upscale bar, and a lovely front porch. We enjoyed Bald Guy Brew coffee and a spicy "Dirty South Benedict", fit for a Texan! Everything was delicious, the service was great, and the prices were very reasonable. I will definitely be returning! Would love to try dinner as well!"

  • "Very well run with great food. All the staff are very nice and helpful. The wait staff helps each other in a very natural way. The menu is great, not large (a good thing) and well thought out. It should cover just about everyone's taste. Very fresh ingredients that allow the dishes to shine. The choice of Small Plates or a regular Supper is great. The fried green tomato with pimento cheese is served whole with greens is great, as is the Lobster Mac. Asked a couple questions on how to make a couple items, and the kitchen staff readily answered. One of the best places my wife and I have dined at"

  • "This was our 2nd time at The New & this time we brought another couple with us. Chris, our server, was the best; as personable as he was efficient. The pimiento cheese appetizer with warm pita triangles is a standout. We really love the dining room ambience with all the rustic wood & warm décor."

  • "The dining room was nearly full but the noise level was subdued and the space was pleasant. All three diners enjoyed their choices and the pickled plate hors d'oeuvre was interesting and good. "

  • "We really enjoyed dining at the New. The food is remarkable and the atmosphere is relaxing. Our server knew the menu and wine list well and made several excellent suggestions."

  • "Overall we enjoyed our evening & our meal, but the featured steamed artichoke was not tender & was cold inside. Our server offered to warm it up, but it should not have happened. The duck & lobster tots were unusual & delicious."

  • "It didn't take long. When Micheal Foreman left Bistro Roca for this new venture, I had my doubts, but he's answered every one. Ask for the rabbit livers. Don't miss the charcuterie. It's always different, but never disappointing. This weekend was southern fried duck. The rillettes are outstanding. And yes, they have vegetables. I do miss the more casual atmosphere at Roca, but not enough to miss the gourmandise at the Public House. Loosen your belt a few notches and tuck in for a great meal."

  • "First time with new spring/summer menu. The offerings are interesting- wishing I had made another selection besides the Lobster and Scallop hotpot. It seemed like it had "boiled" in the broth with vegetables. Was tasty, but the seafood was a little chewy. The cheese grits were in a separate dish, and were great. All other meals our party had were good- trout and burger."

  • "Serene, nice background music, eclectic and wonderful wine list are the prelude to creative and delicious entrees or small plates. We had a tomato salad with grilled shrimp and wild boar meatloaf with green chile mashed potatoes. Everything was outstanding. This place is even an Inn where you can stay and eat your meals there!"

  • "We enjoyed a wonderful celebration dinner at The New Public House. The Wild Boar Meatloaf was amazing. Also, the Dirty South Wings were delish! We were not too happy with the desserts. We had the brownie and the cheesecake. The service was very good and the ambience was relaxing. I would love to dine here again the next time I am in town!"

  • "Great food and service. Did a wonderful job of accommodating our large group on ASU graduation day, even after we had to expand our reservation from 8 to 11 people. Very creative starters and small plates came quickly and were followed by fantastic entrees."

  • "Food is great. Chef is the best in the area. One slight change would be to have one or two more traditional dishes on the menu, to accomodate those who are less adventourious."
    Dined on 5/10/2014
  • "Very nice setting for small family pre-graduation celebration. Our party of 7 was seated w/only a few minutes wait - the bar area was a nice place to gather and wait. The service and food were very very nice. Not too loud but buzzing with most tables full. Would definitely recommend it!"

  • "Got the shrimp and grits which the waitress recommended. The wait staff noticed a shrimp fell off the plate. They could have just brought the plate and not said anything. But the plate was still brought out still hot and the missing shrimp was brought a few minutes later. Appreciated that! "

  • "Our dining experience was marvelous. The decor is neat--very simple but sophisticated. Our waitress was great, very personable and helpful. They had an extensive beer list and offered a few hard-to-find options. We decided to split one entree and two appetizers. To start, we chose their dirty south wings and vegetable succotash, and both were excellent. Our entree was a lobster and scallop hot pot, complete with a wonderful broth and some very creamy grits. For dessert, we got the apple and golden raisin dumpling, and we both really liked the fleur de sel ice cream that accompanied it. My boyfriend and I agreed that it was some of the best food we'd ever had in a restaurant--it's a gem and people need to know about it! "
