Diner Reviews
  • "Chef Michael Forman is obviously a well- trained chef. The lobster flatbread appetizer special was nothing short of amazing with soft crust, feta cheese, tomatoes, other vegetables. The shrimp and grits was a gourmet version of a traditional NC favorite as was the mountain trout. Prices were extremely reasonable especially given the quality. The wine list was limited, but glasses were substantial and prices also low. Only downside was a somewhat limited menu but still something for everyone. A real find in an area with overpriced and mediocre restaurants. Will definitely return."

  • "this was my second visit. first was breakfast and was very impressed. Second was dinner and still impressed. The menu changed recently from what was on line and that created some different choices but still satisfied. Waitress seemed new and timid. I learned more about dish choices listening and watching other tables and their waiters. Overall, I was very pleased with the dinner. talked about it at work the next day so it had to impress. Atmosphere is ok. chairs seem a bit low for the tables."

  • "Such a terrific menu. Very creative take on otherwise simple food. Simple in a good way, not base. Loved my meal and everyone in my group enjoyed theirs. Will definitely recommend and return. The portions are large, plenty to take home for lunch the next day."

  • "Great dinner with 5 friends. Unmatched service from our knowledgeable waitress. Excelent help with selecting our wine and navigating a new menu!"

  • "Price/Value is not up to par. Along way from Gideon Ridge performance."

  • "I love what they've done in converting the former Crippen's. Food has been very good, but maybe a overreaches a little trying to create too many different unique small plate items and sides served with the entrees. Service staff is obviously trained by someone who knows how to run a casually classy place. We'll keep going back."

  • "Tenderloin was cooked to order but apparently marinated in something super salty. Got enough sodium for a week! Couldn't even finish eating it. But mashed potatoes were very good. Friends scallop and lobster hotpot was just mediocre. Other friend's salad was okay. All the servers were very nice and competent. But sorry to say we will not be back."

  • "We will be back to see if the next time everything will be perfect. We ordered a salad with our meal, but it never came. My meal, served on naan, was served in a bowl, which made cutting a bit difficult , but it was delicious. The trout dish was wonderful, and the fish fry goodt. They did comp us a desert as they forgot the salad, but the biscuit on one was burnt and the pound cake on mine was toasted to the point it was too hard to cut with the spoon they gave me. The taste was good though. Our waitress seemed stressed and when asked for a carafe of water for the table, needed a couple of reminders to actually bring it and then she took it away during dinner again. Overall, the food was good and we will be back for a second try."

  • "We love this place. The chef here also supervises the other two restaurants they own- G at Gideon Ridge and Bistro Roca. But he is physically here at this restaurant; this is the best of the three although Roca is a close second! The atmosphere and ambience is good; no views of mountains and all; the restaurant is on a side street in town but if you just want great food and wine at a reasonable price, go here! You won't be disappointed."

  • "My husband and I each had one of the two specials for the evening. They were both outstanding and we enjoyed them both. Our server was knowledgeable and if she didn't know the answer, was happy to ask the chef. Our cocktails were made perfectly so all in all, our experience was most enjoyable. Highly recommend!"

  • "We ordered the trout which was very good. Others from our group ordered the pork chop and chicken dish and both said their dishes were excellent. We had the peaches and biscuit for dessert. the biscuit tasted like a donut and was very tasty. The only complaint is the yellow peaches were good however, the white peaches were crunchy and not quite ripe. we will be back!"

  • "At first, we tried to CALL our "go to most other times" restaurant for dinner reservations; but, were pleasantly surprised when we were re-routed to figure out how to make reservations via Open Table. All good, and wonderfully fulfilling. Recommend highly."

  • "The Public House is a great dining option in Blowing Rock. The menu is unique and varied. We had the grouper special which was outstanding. Service was a bit on the cold side and outdoor dining was not offered to us but I highly recommend asking for a table. The bar was small but inviting and cozy."

  • "Village public house was very good but they did not receive our booking from open table which was very disappointing. Fortunately they could fit us in. We are not confident about using open table in the future"

  • "Lovely anniversary dinner...very special. I had the pork chops and they were good but it was the okra fritters, curried okra and the corn salsa that really enhanced the dish. My husband liked his tenderloin meal."

  • "New restaurant for us. Won't be the last time we eat here. All was good. Only bad thing is the view out of the dining room.....onto the parking lot."

  • "New Public House has a diverse menu that will please anyone. Food is freshly prepared and served promptly. It's the type of restaurant you can go to for snacks OR a full meal. Wine list is good and prices very reasonable. Our party of 3 had small plates, appetizers, an entree each, a bottle of wine and one (delicious) shared dessert for $155 including a generous tip. The waitress was spot on, friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend this restaurant for dinner. I haven't been there for breakfast so will leave that review to others."

  • "My family was visiting us in Blowing Rock to celebrate my son's 50th birthday. We selected the New Public House and everyone enjoyed their meal from start to finish. Especially enjoyed the Bleu Tots, pimento cheese spread appetizers, and the snapper special entree. the banana split prepared with a sugar glaze was unique and delicious. They all are anxious to return here the next time they are in Blowing Rock."

  • "Had another great meal at New Public House in Blowing Rock. We had a large group and had to wait a few minutes for our table so we had a chance to hang out in the bar. It is beautifully decorated. They seated us in a booth with 2 chairs added to the end. The chairs were much lower than the table so the unfortunate ones who sat there felt like children at the grown up table! The service was terrific and the food is always amazing. Everyone ordered something different and everyone loved their meal! The wings, the pimento cheese, the mac n cheese, the meatloaf, trout and shrimp and grits are all spectacular. We will be back again soon and I highly recommend it for others visiting the area or locals!"

  • "My husband and I loved our meal. From the delicious cocktails, awesome wine list, variety of menu options (small bites, salads, hot and cold appetizers, entrees and sides) and wonderful service, it was the perfect evening! Try the okra fritters and lobster tot salad! We will definitely be back. Plum cobbler was outstanding."

This was our 10th visit to New Public House - consistent positive dining experience. • "We had a wonderful evening at the New Public House. As a long-time fan of sister restaurant, Bistro Roca, we had high expectations for the Hew Public and we were not disappointed. The food and service were excellent and we enjoyed the quieter, sophisticated atmosphere that allowed for conversation. We followed the recommendations of our server who was helpful and well-trained and we were thrilled with our selections of "bites," salads, entrees and dessert. We had a superior bottle of French Gigondas that we considered a bargain for the quality. In a small town that has an amazing number of wonderful restaurant choices, we would place the New Public House in the top group and look forward to returning to try something different."

  • "I want this restaurant to succeed ! I would love the wait staff to be more personable & knowledgeable! The food was excellent! We were a table of nine on a very quiet evening. Five of our party arrived on time, and we're told we could not be seated until ALL arrived. There were 2 other customers in the restaurant! Our waitress was aloof , and seemed disinterested in serving us!! Bistro Roca owns this restaurant, and we expect better service next time!!"

  • "I specifically asked to celebrate here since we had eaten here when we had guests from out of town. Everyone enjoyed it so much and I was excited about returning. Food and service was great and mixed drink was perfect. Hope I don't have to wait for another special occasion! We didn't understand how the pork was to be cooked. We asked for medium and we should have requested done. A little too red, but still good. Green tomato appetizer was perfect to share and so good. A great new place in Blowing Rock, we are spreading the word!"
