A word from The Musket Room
The Musket Room brings the spirit of New Zealand and the country’s diverse cuisine to Manhattan’s Nolita neighborhood. Chef and owner Matt Lambert, a New Zealand native, created a menu that charts the evolution of New Zealand cuisine, from the country’s Old World traditions and Asian influences to its modern day dedication to local and seasonal offerings.

Inspired by an era in New Zealand when adventure and discovery blossomed, The Musket Room offers a modern approach to the country’s culinary past, serving dinner and drinks.

We visited the Musket Room for a taste of home (the chef is from NZ). We were very excited about the menu and wine list we saw online as they had some of our favourites. In particular my companion was very keen for the pavlova. Unfortunately the wine was no longer available but we found a suitable substitute. The steak and lamb dishes were outstanding, except for the coriander in the lamb dish, which was not mentioned in the menu ( companion couldn't eat it). Pavlova was not a taste of home. We were hoping for the melt-in-mouth marshmallow feel, but it was really more of a meringue. Overall, it's an excellent restaurant, and we would recommend it, just done expect too much NZ

Everything was great! ! Food, service, wine. We did the 6 course menu with the sine paring. Just excellent. I thought the wines were especially well done both in food match and new Zealand connection. Would definitely eat here again.

Absolutely the best dining experience in SoHo Nolita! We live here; we know. The flavors are intricate yet very straight forward and comforting. We enjoyed the cold smoked scallops (the tiny flowers are amazing!), the tofu gnocchi (so many textures and spices), and the red deer (melts in your mouth). Perfectly prepared, plated and presented in every way. Go and enjoy!

Everything was perfect - from the ambiance, to to the service, and of course the food! The deer was outstanding and melts in your mouth. Bartenders and waiters couldn't have been friendlier, happy to make us custom drinks and let us catch up with friends without feeling rushed to order. Will be back.

Enjoyed NZ 6 course tasting menu. Since this is an international restaurant, portion of each dish was quite small, especially after spoiled by the US big dishes. The ambience was very casual. You don't have to wear tie nor jacket.

I can't say enough good things about The Musket Room! The sommelier was well versed on New Zealand and local wines. We ordered a Red Hook Rebirth from the Sea at Dane's recommendation and were not disappointed. I had the cold smoked scallops, tofu gnocchi and strawberry pavlova and would recommend all three. Unique flavor combinations with a bit of asian influence that melted in your mouth! Downtown chic ambiance. This will be my new favorite go to restaurant. Highly recommend.

This was my 2nd time dining here in a week. I realized after taking the 1st bite of the roast quail on the 1st occasion of dining here that I made a horrible mistake in not ordering the tasting menu. So I returned and enjoyed the full tasting menu with wine parings. This chef really knows what he's doing! All of the flavors in the pallet are in perfect harmony on the palate. Each dish is prepared with care, using produce grown in the restaurant's own garden when possible. And the pairing with New Zealand wines is outstanding. One of the best parings I have ever had. Each wine enhanced each course. Can't wait to return!

We did the ten course tasting with wine pairings. There were a few hits but also a few misses. Hits: creme fraiche with caviar, foie gras, quail and red deer. Misses: oysters (gritty) and smoked scallops (smoke flavor overwhelmed). Desserts were immemorable but that might be due to the excess of beverage pairings. You get nine generous pours and a stiff cocktail as the tenth course.

The smoked scallops are amazing and everything else was very good. However, it took 20 minutes and three attempts to get water. There were a number of other minor snafus during the meal but then came the bill. I signed it, tipped well, then as I put the receipt in my pocket I noticed some charges for cocktails and appetisers we had neither ordered nor received. I tried to get someones attention but after five minutes, I took it to the bar. We waited and waited for a revised bill. Ultimately I flagged down the sommelier, who apologised profusely, and then brought me the exact same bill with the erroneous charges. A waste of time.

Excellent! Celebrating a birthday, wedding anniversary and new news of a grandchild, couldn't have happenend in a better place. The noise around us was exceptable on a Friday night. At first the 6 meal tasting sounded like of a lot food but it was not. It was the perfect experience. This was a great place to have a superb meal, a variety of drinks with excellent service . The waiter, servers and the chefs wife made our dinner very personal. A great find after reading others reviews.

The menu is so interesting. I had the heirloom gazpacho, amazing... The quail with blackberry sauce was impeccable. The deconstructed steak and cheese pie was perfection. Food itself was very good but vibe is that they want to be a high end restaurant at reasonable prices. The ambiance is mixed and not quite there and a minor point is their end of summer menu with qual and venison on the tasting menu was really for fall.

Six course tasting: The food was very pretty without being pretentious, and was very good. The menu we were served had perfectly prepared quail and red deer as proteins with lovely seasonal fruit and vegetable courses. It felt carefully planned and executed. The service was excellent from the kitchen, as courses were brought at a perfect pace. The chef accommodated a special request for an alternate course, since I dislike tomatoes, and gazpacho was the 1st course. Check was presented with an additional treat. The server could have paid a little more attention to our beverage service. The lighting felt right and the seating was comfortable. Tables are close, but I wasn't particularly aware of the neighbors to the right (wall to the left).

We stumbled across this restaurant on the internet and thought it sounded interesting. Which it is, but more importantly the food and service were outstanding. Highlights for me were the cold smoked scallops and their take on a deconstructed New Zealand steak and cheese pie. The others at my table had equally excellent food. Some of the reviews we read said to skip dessert but that would be a mistake if you did. Plum custard tart with plum ice cream - does it get any better?

Absolutely outstanding and still a gem find, until the NYTimes reviews it. Well-earned, newly awarded one Michelin star. Food and presentation are very creative, cutting edge, delicious, superb. All the alcohol is way overpriced, but they have to make their rent somehow and the food prices are very reasonable for what you're served. Their perpetration of the recent fad of serving bread and charging you for it, especially without listing it on the menu with a price, is very underhanded and not becoming of the service, food, and so on of this quite fine restaurant. Will definitely return.
