The place was extremely well-staffed and we never had to wait for anything, which was great. They bring out fresh rolls and butter at the beginning which were also great. We started with the "donuts" stuffed with lobster, shrimp and crab and had nothing but rave reviews. The clam chowder wasn't the best i've ever had, but it was still delicious. Overall everyone had a great time and its overlooking the water which can't be beat. Would definitely come here again.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBeautiful location! We went to The Mooring to celebrate our daughter's college graduation. Enjoyed a beautiful view, great service, and phenomenal food. We will definitely dine there again when we are in the area.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSalve Graduation-EveWell planned menu. Pricey ($61 lobster when there is an over-supply ?), but great prep and fast service.
Wait-staff is exceptional. Very attentive.
Oddly enough, the filet migon is the best entree for this water-side seafood restaurant!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMore at the Mooring - 5 stars !We made reservations using open table. Seated at our table immediately. Prompt and attentive Wait Staff. Food was very good. Some items on menu appear pricey, but would highly recommend to anyone.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat day!Great food with attentive service. Sat inside near a window with great atmosphere. Worth the drive from Connecticut.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Meal in a Great Town!We had friends from out of town and were seated on the deck with the plastic sheets pulled down as it was cool evening which took the ambiance of the restaurant to zero. Our server was excellent and the food was very good. One disappointment was the beet salad which was too much arugula and rock hard yellow beets, it wasn't good. This is something we would never order again. The "bag of donuts" seafood appetizer was very good and the sauce was very, very good. The entrees were excellent and well served. The wait time was long and the waitress came to the table and said the kitchen was slow because of the big crowd. I like that! She was upfront and told us we would have our meals shortly. Overall, it was a fun, delicious meal!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMprofessional staff, great foodNice to have attentive, professional bartender and waiter. Food was awesome. Only drawback was that it was a little pricey ($10 for a glass of house Malbec?), but it is Newport after all!
Worth the trip.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first experienceThis was our first experience with this establishment. The food and service were outstanding.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMwe arrived 30 minutes beforewe arrived 30 minutes before our reservation but they seated us right away! very accommodating, lovely good.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappointsYou can count on The Mooring for a great meal. Their staff is super and makes for a wonderful dining experience!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMHarbor View with Great FoodWe enjoyed lunch on the screened in patio. It was windy and a tad cool outside, but they had heaters. The food was great. We tried the lobster-beef slider appetizer. It was unusual with an interestin taste. I would order it again. We also had the fish and chips - wonderful. Husband had the sole and thought it was outstanding. We were there with two small kids and the waitstaff was very good with them. It is a beautiful place and could be more formal in the evening.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time thereThis was our first time to the Mooring. We heard great reviews from friends and family who have been there. Wine was great, staff were excellent as was the food and the ambiance. The only minor negative was we made a reservation online which was confirmed when we walked in. However we had to wait 30 mins past our reservation time for a table. For us it was not a problem as we were on vacation time. We would defiantly return.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you for fulfilling myThank you for fulfilling my special request, we asked to be seated on the patio with a view of the water and boats. When we arrived the hostess welcomed us and knew who we were, our table was waiting and it was exactly what we requested. The waitress was very friendly and made suggestions to the menu that were perfect. We live in Miami and will revisit . Btw our 8 month old was greated with open arms.
We recommend the moornings thumbs up.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experience. WhenExcellent experience. When I made reservations I asked for a table with a view because it was my boyfriend's bday. They set us up with a great view of the water and we watched the sun set while we ate. Everything was delicious. We started with oysters from the raw bar-very fresh. Then we had the tuna tartar which was perfect. my entree was thr atlantic salmon...which was cooked perfectly. It was juicy and had great flavor. My date had the scallops and they were gorgeous. Paired nicely with chorizo. For dessert he was brought the bavarian with a candle for his bday. I had the pistachio gelato and it was creamy and delicious. Overall, we had a great experience!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAnniversary LunchFriendly hostess. Attentive waitstaff. Excellent overall experience. I had asked a long time Newport friend to suggest a lunch spot in Newport. He said "My first and only choice would be the Mooring." It did not disappoint.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMreally fun restaurant. veryreally fun restaurant. very lively. great location with incredible view of water.
food was delicious. Server was excellent.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place!!This place was simply wonderful. We came down to Newport for a single night on a last minute whim and thus were concerned about getting dinner reservations someplace good. We took an earlier-than-normal timeslot of 5:30 PM, and afterwards were psyched that we did. My wife and I loved our meals (I had the flank steak special, and she had the gluten-free lobster, scallop and shrimp dish), though my wife's dish could have used a bit more seasoning. My 8 yr old son, the fish lover that he is, had one of the appetizers to give him his fix of lobster, crab, and shrimp without us having to break the bank to do so. We had a bottle of white wine, which was a delight. The subsequent wine by the glass was less satisfying.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat family lunch for restaurantGreat family lunch for restaurant week!
The Mooring was a great place to bring out of town family to for a taste of Newport!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVery enjoyable RestaurantVery enjoyable Restaurant Week lunch. And server was accommodating especially when we needed some of our food to go. Had a wonderful time. Must go back again4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat view of Newport harbor,Great view of Newport harbor, friendly energetic staff and local food prepared the way you request. Best dessert was the ice cream sandwich made with fresh macaroon cookies and maple walnut ice cream during restaurant week.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMService was fantastic theService was fantastic the Shrimp and Grits was not great . I have eaten at eh restaurant many times and will be back. I will choose something else from your menu.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMBest dinner so far this year!I am a Newporter and former professional cook. It was my birthday and Restaurant Week so we chose the Mooring because of the Restaurant Week menu which offered many choices. From walking in the front door to the end of our meal, everything was first class and excellent. We will be back again to try some of the items on the regular menu. I was impressed with the service. It is obvious that servers are trained well and the cooks in the kitchen love food. That is what creates a memorable meal for me. I loved my meal (raw bar, hangar steak & creme brulee) because it was healthy and delicious rather than huge and heavily sauced. The whole environment is comfortable and elegant, the view to die for as well. Thanks.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, service. LotsExcellent food, service. Lots of fun things we tried. Their "donuts", oyster shooters, and desert drinks were great4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent lunch during RestaurantExcellent lunch during Restaurant week -- all four of us loved it. Tell them to hold the fries; they're very good, but way too many. Otherwise, perfect!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLate night dinnerThe restaurant was great. The wait staff was very sociable and knowledgable so they were able to guide us on some great menu choices. I recommend people make reservations because the restaurant is full from 5-930 pm every night!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was great - we tookThe food was great - we took advantage of the restaurant week menu. It was very busy, but we felt the service could have been better. We each would have ordered another drink, but were never asked if we wanted one. We also had to ask for water refills.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place really has it all:This place really has it all: food, service, ambiance, and price. It's great that we came during restaurant week, but even if we didn't, the prices and food would still be great. Our server, Felecia, was warm and friendly. We'd come back in a heart beat.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food. Loved the cioppino.Great food. Loved the cioppino. Wait Service was only ok. Friendly staff. Fare rewards is a great program.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service outstanding.Food and service outstanding. We were seated at the time we arrived for our reservation and were seated at a table facing the terrific waterfront. The seafood was the best. I have eaten in quite a while. Our server was nice and very friendly and very conversive. There is no rushing here just sit back, enjoy the view and have a nice romantic meal with that special somebody!
.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had been for Easter lunchWe had been for Easter lunch in 2012 and loved it, so we decided to try it again. On site parking is a plus. No special menu this time, which was disappointing. However, the view was great, the service was excellent and the food was good. The steak choice was excellent. The lobster eggs benedict was good; the lobster was a bit tough. We started with oysters on the half shell - very good. The restaurant has a lively bar area, but the noice did not disturb. Overall, it was very good and we would return.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMi enjoyed easter sunday thisi enjoyed easter sunday this was the fourth time we came for easter, but we come often in the summer3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently wonderful. Oh, and the coffee -- amazing!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat seafood, a must tryGreat seafood, a must try is the bag of doughnuts (savory, made with bits of lobster shrimp and crab).3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our server JonathanLoved our server Jonathan and how the seared scallops were seasoned with chorizo.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I thoroughly enjoyedMy wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at the Mooring this past Saturday evening. We were extremely happy to find our reservation resulted in our having a table right near the back door with the best view of the sunset behind the marina. We enjoyed appetizers of cheerystone clams and clam chowder (both excellent) Our main dishes were cooked to perfection, my wife's dish consisted of a seafood combo (lobster, salmon, shrimp) was excellent (great balancing act Chef) as was my choice of the Mahi Mahi. The wine was delightful, the service was also top notch, our waitress was prompt and checked on us a few times. Hope any readers have a similar experience.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWith so many restaurants toWith so many restaurants to choose from in Newport, we chose Moorings from all the good reviews, menu choices and views. It did not disappoint. The service was excellent and friendly. We chose the much talked about "doughnuts" and the tuna tartar as appetizers - loved them both!! We were tempted to get another order of the doughnuts to take with us!
We both ordered salmon (mine from the gluetin free menu). Both were excellent. Would definitely go back next time in Newport.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was our second dining experienceIt was our second dining experience at the moorning - DH had the surf and turf and loved it; I opted for a half dozen oysters, the pork belly (so fatty but so tasty!).
I had the Mooring Painkiller - a little to creamy for my taste (kind of like coconut pie w/ rum in a glass - but it had a major kick.
My only mistake was the entree, where I went on the cheap for a seafood wrap. So wholly disappointing, I could have done it myself and the seafood was buried in the sauce/lettuce within it. For the price I would have hoped for more.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a fabulous meal-- theWe had a fabulous meal-- the atmosphere is a beautiful streamline nautical, classic wood and copper-- our only complaint is, although the service was very friendly and inviting, it was extremely rushed! We ordered apps, oysters, salads, etc. and they just were pushing us through piling one thing on another...slow down.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Mooring restaurant isThe Mooring restaurant is consistently great. Our food was fresh and arrived hot. We had the "Day Boat" cod. Wonderful view, exceptional food, exceptional service.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new Favoritefood was excellent, my husband said it was the best new england clam chowder. The service was excellent. Went in March and there were plenty of people. Can't wait to go in warmer weather.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe white fish in all theThe white fish in all the dishes seemed a little too bland and soft (I don't mean undercooked) including the fish and chips. Where we had seafood at a less atmospheric restaurant and it was excellent. Overall the food was good but not exquisite. Very warm and scenic atmosphere. Probably a great place for drinks and apps before dinner.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat......treated my wifeGreat......treated my wife and I first class for her birthday....we are frequent visitors3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal and service! When booking the reservation I mentioned our anniversary and requested a window seat overlooking the water. We arrived early, they sat us immediately honoring our request for the window and the view did not disappoint. The food was outstanding and the portions were beyond generous. The service was exceptional; they were very proactive, making certain tableware was changed, water and drinks were never empty and checking on our meal. Most important (and this is our number one pet peeve as a couple), they did not rush us. We would highly recommend The Mooring to all.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMNEVER disappointed at TheNEVER disappointed at The Mooring. Very good food, service and ambiance!!
