  • "It was my mother's 91 birthday. We had an excellent table. The service from host, wait staff, to bus boy was friendly and simply well done. They even handled the scooter. We have very good food. I highly recommend The Mooring."

  • "Everything was delicious and so fresh. We had the oysters, mussels, clam chowder, stuffed lobster and brownie dessert. All incredible. Our waitress was a little slow and didn't come around often but very sweet non the less."

  • "We did expect a little more from the food to be honest. Although the appetizers were good the entrees not so much. I ordered stripped bass with turnips and potatoes. The fish way overcooked (burned and dry) with a sweet sauce that did not go well at all. The Portuguese cod was a great dish. Everything else was excellent, the wine selection, ambiance, exceptional service and the scenic view."

  • "We were seated immediately in a great spot. Our waitress, Ashley, was extremely nice. My husband's filet was spectacular. My tuna was perfect! We were celebrating a special event in our lives and dining here made it all the more memorable!"

  • "Pricy but very good. You could not ask for a better view."

  • "This was our second visit to The Moorings. Service was excellent and staff was very attentive and accommodating but not pushy or overbearing. We were seated immediately upon arrival at a table of our choice. Food was very well prepared and presented. Would definitely go again."

  • "Despite its mass of transient diners, the mngmnt & staff make you feel so welcome. This trip to Newport is an annual summer outing from Sthrn CT for my wife and I & usually another couple. Last summer, we saw the introduction of the wine list on the iPad, a really nice touch. This summer we saw the staff using "Tidy Tables" to wipe off the tables. I always roll my eyes when you see a table being wiped with the same cloth table after table without being washed in-between. "Tidy Tables" gives a clean sanitized table every time. Well done The Moorings. Just goes to show, complacency does not fit in at The Moorings. And as usual, the food is well worth the two hour drive from CT. See you in September at the boat show."

  • "The raw bar was great, but the rest of the food was just so-so. Our server was friendly and efficient. Make sure to sit outside."

  • "Food was excellent. We had four appetizers including the bag of doughnuts, which was outstanding. We are an avid seafood lover and a vegetarian and we both left completely full. The drinks are also great. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Newport. Definitely sit outside as the restaurant is loud. We had wonderful servers."

  • "This waterfront venue overlooks Newport Harbor and the exciting activities of million dollar yachts cruising in and out of a New England summer destination . Food and service were top notch and the management knows how to handle a crowd without making anyone feel rushed. There's always a daily special and the lively bar scene is not to be missed. Try the raw bar sampler which includes oysters, clams, shrimp and is topped off by a chilled lobster! What could be more "New England Seaside Dining" than that?"

  • "We had a great lunch sitting outside overlooking Newport harbor. The outdoor deck was nice with an awning to protect you from the sun. We both had seafood and it was fresh and tasty."

  • "My son (13 yrs old) and I had an 8:30 reservation on a busy Thursday evening in August, prime time in Newport. We were seated outdoors on a perfect little patio, all of four tables. Our server, Kaley(hope I spelled it correctly)was simply wonderful. The service, food (a superb raw bar!) and ambience were second to none. Kaley was great with my son, and I really appreciated it. Can't wait till next time."

  • "1) I can't believe you can charge people to park in your onsite handicap parking, is that even legal!?! 2) after dropping off my elderly guests you seat them outside after they expressed reservations about the predicted drop in temp and increasing winds. We will not recommend this restaurant to anyone because of your lack of service and inability and unwillingness to please your guests. And for the record we had reservations"

  • "The Mooring is one of our go to restaurants in Newport for special occasions, date night or just for a cocktail and a bag of doughnuts at the bar. You won't be disappointed!"

  • "Must haves ... bag of doughnuts, clam chowder, seafood pasta, beef filet, Portuguese roasted cod, Georges Bank Scallops. Not too crazy about the Brussels sprouts side. But we will still go here every year."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner and the service was superb. Attentive and unobtrusive. The ambiencel of,the boat harbor is lovely. We were in a side too that was quiet but the rest was noisey. Sure the outside was quiet. Great sunset view. On the wharf and in them center of Newport."

  • "Such a wonderful dinner! Had the surf and turf with 8oz filet and lobster tail. Steak cooked rare to perfection. We shared a dozen oysters (3 different kinds) and had an excellent bottle of wine. Creme brulee was huge, more than enough for two to share. Sat on the deck as the sun set - perfection!"

  • "The Mooring is our "go-to" place in Newport. We never have a bad meal or service and there is plenty to choose from regardless of your taste."

  • "I'll keep it simple. After arriving a few minutes late due to traffic and parking. We were seated within 15 minutes (thanks to a call ahead) outside with direct view of the marina and a gorgeous lowering afternoon sun. The view alone was amazing and well worth the trek. We began with the Bag of Doughnuts (absolute must) and Oysters from the raw bar, simply delicious! Moving on our next selections were Yellowfin Tuna and Atlantic Salmon, both excellent options. We skipped dessert, but our next visit will surely include a proper sampling. Our waiter was attentive, the ambience was great and pricing very reasonable. Thanks Mooring, we enjoyed every moment spent in your establishment."

  • "You're more likely to find a slip for your yacht than a parking spot for your car next to the aptly named Mooring; but when you get there you'll find one of the better drink lists around and tasty, albeit pricey, food options. Stick to the sandwiches and fish and chips; I've found their raw bar to have declined in quality of late."

  • "I went here for a bachelorette. It was a wonderful evening, filled with wonderful food, a great drink list and very friendly wait staff. I would absolutely go back. The seafood pasta was out of this world."

  • "The Mooring was a great choice for Newport. We ate outside and watched the boats in the marina as we enjoyed our meal. This restaurant is a definite if you are visiting Newport!"

  • "We had such an amazing time at this restaurant. The service was the best we have probably ever had in over 4 years of dating. The food was fantastic, just as we ordered, on time, and delicious! The drinks were out of this world! The Cinnabon martini was so perfect I had two! The view of the water is really nice. Overall, just an expertly run restaurant with great staff. All of the servers and managers seemed to work together and everyone seemed happy to help each other and to help us! I was very impressed! I just wish we took note of our servers name so we could mention him specifically!"

  • "Perched right on the docks & marinas of Newport The Mooring is everything you could hope for in fine dining in the waterfront. There's something for everybody as their menu spans the sea and land. I had the grilled swordfish, which came with a bacon and grape reduction with corn pudding and fingerling potatoes. It was, quite simply, the best piece of swordfish I've ever had. My fellow diners had the pork lion and salmon. While they weren't as thrilled with the main fare's companion side dishes, the featured meats were, in their opinion, phenomenal. The ambiance is perfect, the service was too notch, and the drink selection leaves nothing to chance. Overall, our best dining experience in Newport."

  • "The ambience here is great. The dining room, bar and big open air dining area was a little...energetic...but we were luckyto be on a smaller quiet porch over the water. The seafood donuts were great but the entrees were lacking. Don't order the farro or striped bass. Devil dog was great and the waiter David was really knowledgeable and fun."

  • "Our group grew from 6 to 12 and they were easily able to accommodate us. The food was excellent and the server was clearly knowledgable. Interesting cocktail menu and a solid wine list. The service was excellent. Our food came out perfectly timed. The staff was attentive to our needs. Our entire group agreed it was an amazing dinner!"

  • "The oysters were a fresh and tasty start to an excellent meal. We had scallops and a lobster for dinner - both were excellent. Nice choice of wines by the glass. After two deliveries of warm rolls, we didn't have room for dessert. Have had a nice lunch there previously and decided to try it for dinner. We were equally pleased. Nice waterfront view added to an enjoyable dinner."

  • "My boyfriend and I are from Toronto, attending the Newport Jazz Festival for the first time. We wanted to have some great seafood while we were in Newport, particularly lobster. The Mooring was the perfect choice. We started by sharing 12 oysters and two oyster shooters, and followed that up with boiled lobsters and a side of grilled aparagus, with a bottle of Chablis. The wait staff were great, the surroundings were lively and yet relaxed, we had a view of the harbor. If you are on a tight budget, this is not the place to go. If you have some money set aside for a memorable meal, you could not do better."

  • "Visiting from PA during Jazzfest. Our second time dining at the Mooring and again it did not disappoint. Outstanding seafood and atmosphere. Better than other highly touted dining recommendations. Will make The Mooring a regular stop for dinner on our travel circuit when in Newport."

  • "Super SLOW service! This restaurant has tasty food, good wine, good views, nice wait staff--BUT, the timing that the kitchen has is awful. And this has been consistent in all my many times here...so they need to fix this problem!!!! Huge waits in between ordering, first course and main course. Really not acceptable so don't be in any kind of hurry here!"

  • "My group of 4 thoroughly enjoyed our recent lunch. It helped that it was a beautiful summer day and we were given a great outdoor table with a nice view of the harbor. The food (sandwiches), while not exceptional or especially original, certainly met everyone's expectations. We were pleased that ice water was served without having to request it. A little something to nosh on with our wine (e.g. crackers, pickles) while waiting for the food would have been a welcome addition. Also, at least partial validation for parking in the adjacent lot would seem in order -- it cost us $9.75 for our 95 minute stay."
